CM vows to play vibrant role in freeing country from poverty

The CM outlined,' The entire nation salute those who downed the enemy's Rafale aircraft. I pay profound tribute to my Commander-in-Chief brother, Field Marshal Asim Munir, who displayed exemplary wartime leadership and led Pakistan to victory. This Independence Day celebration is marked for the whole Pakistani nation. The entire nation stands shoulder to shoulder with the Pakistan Armed Forces like an iron wall.'
She highlighted,' If we had been politically divided, we could never have won the war against the enemy. From the Battle of Truth( 'Marka-i- Haq'), the world learned what 'Bunyan-um- Marsus' means. During my visits in various colleges across Punjab for the distribution of laptops to the talented students, I understood the phrase: 'This homeland is yours; you are its guardians.' The entire nation got united and became an iron wall against the enemy's aggression.'
The CM underscored, 'Independence Day is dedicated to those mothers who send their sons to the battlefield with a lion's heart. The whole nation, Nawaz Sharif and myself pay tribute with profound reverence to the brave mothers who bid farewell to their young sons to the battlefield. We salute those brave daughters who sacrifice their marital life for the sake of sacred homeland, and the children who bear the pain of orphanage for the sake of the defence and protection of our dear homeland. The Independence Day is meant for those sons who gave their precious blood to safeguard their dear motherland.'
She maintained ,' We dedicate the Independence Day to the valiant warriors who fought bravely on the borders. Every year we celebrate our Independence Day, but on account of Marka-i- Haq, this year's rejoice is unparalleled. Today is dedicated to the valiant soldiers who gave a befitting reply to the enemy's aggressive designs, to the leadership, officers, and soldiers of the Pakistan Armed Forces, and to Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, who made the country a nuclear power and rendered its defence impregnable.'
She noted,' I commend Senior Minister Maryam Aurangzeb, the Bank of Punjab, IDAP, PHA, and the media team, and I request everyone to rise today with a firm resolve to make our sacred homeland greater and stronger than ever before. I also urge the workers, farmers, teachers, students, and politicians to set aside their political differences and give foremost priority to the progress and prosperity of their country. For serving the country and the nation is an honour not granted to everyone. If one attains an elevated position but is devoid of good intentions, it leads to disgrace.'
She added,' The journey of decline that began in 2018 has ended. This soil is very fertile; it only asks for a little water and a little hard work. Pakistan has defeated an enemy four times greater its size with full zeal and determination. I commend the entire administration for celebrating the Independence Day with complete vigour and zest along with decorating and illuminating the buildings across Punjab. I pray to Allah Almighty that may Pakistan lives forever and we see it reaching great heights in our lifetime.'

PTI senators assail govt's list of civil honours
ISLAMABAD: The Senate erupted into political crossfire on Friday as opposition Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) senators launched a blistering assault on the government's civil honours list, slamming it for decorating sitting ministers and loyal political allies under the guise of national recognition. The session, chaired by Senate Chairman Yousaf Raza Gilani, opened with the announcement of a select group of senators receiving some of the country's highest civilian awards on August 14. Among them were Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, Climate Change Minister Musadik Malik, alongside bureaucrat-turned-politician Ahad Cheema and Sherry Rehman– all aligned with the treasury benches or their coalition partners. The honours list, bearing a striking resemblance to a cabinet roster, featured scant recognition for cultural or civic contributors – a detail sharply criticised by PTI senators, who condemned the awards as blatant political patronage. PTI lawmakers were quick to express their disdain. 'What war did Atta Tarar fight,' questioned Senator Falak Naz of PTI, mocking what she described as the 'militarisation of mediocrity.' Another PTI senator Humayun Mohmand added with biting sarcasm: 'The real war strategist – Nawaz Sharif – was snubbed, despite masterminding our recent military doctrine with India.' As tensions rose, Senator Faisal Javed Khan of PTI lamented the absence of PTI's 'digital foot soldiers' – the party's online activists, whom he claimed 'fought the Battle of Truth by staying up all night exposing Indian propaganda.' Their exclusion, he argued, was not just political bias but 'a devaluation of the civil honours system itself.' In defence, Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar insisted the awards recognised civilians and security personnel affected by recent unrest and urged critics to 'show magnanimity,' noting that diplomatic achievements had also been taken into account. The debate soon shifted to Independence Day government advertisements, with Senator Javed accusing the administration of erasing the image of Muhammad Ali Jinnah from the campaign, replaced instead by what he called a 'parade of the ruling dynasty.' He described this omission as 'not just shameful, but a betrayal of our history.' Tarar, visibly unsettled, said he was 'personally hurt' by the exclusion and promised a formal inquiry. 'Different institutions publish their own materials,' he said, 'but Quaid-e-Azam is our undisputed leader. We all follow him.' Despite the rancour, the Senate managed to pass a resolution marking Independence Day as the culmination of 'centuries of political struggle,' paying tribute to Pakistan's founders, constitutional architects, and armed forces. The resolution, moved by Law Minister Tarar, reaffirmed a commitment to protecting Pakistan's sovereignty, preserving democratic ethics, and building a prosperous future for coming generations. It pledged to pursue sustainable development, economic empowerment, and national unity. Honouring Jinnah's leadership, the resolution paid homage to all whose sacrifices secured Pakistan's independence. It acknowledged the armed forces and security institutions for their valor, paying tribute to martyrs and veterans while pledging to uphold their legacy. Special mention was made of parliamentarians who framed the constitution and advanced democratic reforms, with a reaffirmed commitment to parliamentary democracy, constitutional supremacy, and the rule of law. Opposition 'bias claim' in civil awards sparks Senate uproar
The upper house of the parliament witnessed uproar on Friday as opposition lawmakers accused the government of politicising this year's civil awards by allegedly favouring ministers and treasury benches, while ignoring deserving figures. The Senate session, chaired by Chairman Yousaf Raza Gillani, turned heated after he announced that several cabinet members and senators had been conferred national honours on August 14. Opposition members demanded disclosure of the criteria used for selection. Among the awardees were Ishaq Dar, Mohsin Naqvi, Musadik Malik, Azam Nazeer Tarar, Faisal Sabzwari, Senator Sherry Rehman, Senator Bushra Anjum, Ahsan Iqbal and Ahad Cheema. Irfan Siddiqui and Sarmad Ali are to receive their awards on March 23 next year. Senator Falak Naz Chitrali questioned, "What war did Atta Tarar fight?" while Senator Humayun Mohmand sarcastically remarked that "the designer of the war, Nawaz Sharif, has not been awarded." PTI's Senator Faisal Javed said party social media activists had countered Indian propaganda "day and night" but were ignored, accusing the government of "destroying the sanctity" of the honours. Defending the awards, Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar said martyrs and heroes of the Marka-e-Haq had been recognised, including those who lost their homes. He said some senators had "fought on diplomatic fronts abroad" and thanked PTI's social media workers for their online role in the campaign. The atmosphere grew tense when Senator Faisal Javed raised the omission of Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah's picture from official Independence Day advertisements, displaying the founder's picture on the Senate floor. "Explain, or we will not let this House run," he warned. Tarar expressed ignorance of the matter, called the omission "hurtful" and promised an inquiry. The House later unanimously adopted a resolution lauding the founding fathers, the framers of the Constitution and the armed forces. Earlier, Senator Zeeshan Khanzada criticised that while prisoners often receive sentence remissions on August 14, PTI leaders were instead handed "10-year jail terms like Bata sale rates." Separately, Senator Kamran Murtaza voiced concern over the suspension of mobile internet across 36 districts of Balochistan and alleged closure of rail, road and air links, warning of damage to Pakistan's image. Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry clarified that only mobile internet services had been suspended from August 6 to 31 due to "credible security threats" under the Pakistan Telecommunication (Reorganisation) Act, 1996. He said telephone lines, airline operations, and road and rail links remained functional. "These measures are taken in specific areas facing threats, not across unrelated regions," he said, citing past terror attacks in the province, including on the Jaffar Express and the Army Public School in Khuzdar. On concerns over prepaid internet packages, Dr Chaudhry pledged to take up the matter with the concerned ministry, assuring that unused credit during the suspension period would be carried forward to the next month. The session was adjourned till Monday evening.

NBP marks country's Independence Day
KARACHI: National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) celebrated Pakistan's 78th Independence Day with great enthusiasm and pride. The event brought together NBP's leadership, employees and their families for a day filled with patriotic spirit. Festivities included the hoisting of the national flag, singing of the national anthem, and a cake-cutting ceremony at the NBP headquarters. This year, the national anthem was made even more special as children from the Deaf Reach School joined in using sign language. Their participation was a powerful reminder that patriotism goes beyond words; it is about unity, inclusion, and love for the country in every form. Speaking on the occasion, Rehmat Ali Hasnie, President, NBP, said: 'Independence Day is a time to honor the resilience, courage, and determination of our people.
