Woman sentenced to 20 yrs jail by POCSO court for sexual assault of minor boy
This is the first such case in Udaipur where a female accused has been convicted under the POCSO Act.
Special public prosecutor Mahendra Ojha said the incident occurred in 2023 when the minor boy, then 17 years old, suddenly went missing from his home. His father lodged a missing person's report at Pratap Nagar police station, following which police traced the boy and handed him back to his family.
According to the complaint, the boy's father alleged that a woman had kept his son with her, took him to different places, and sexually exploited him against his will.

Ojha stated that during the trial, the court examined 28 exhibits, two articles, and the testimony of 15 witnesses. Based on this evidence, presiding officer Sanjay Bhandari found the accused guilty and sentenced her to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of ₹10,000.
'This is the only case so far in Udaipur where a woman has been convicted and sentenced by the POCSO Court,' Ojha added.

Two wanted criminals nabbed in Gurgaon following encounter
In an early morning security operation, two wanted criminals were nabbed following an encounter with the personnel of the Special Task Force (STF) of the Bahadurgarh (Jhajjar) Police on Thursday near Garhi Harsaru Road in Gurgaon, said officers. This comes two days after a deadly attack on the STF Palwal team in which the two criminals were allegedly involved. The accused, identified as Yashpal (23) and Nitin (28), both residents of Olant village in Rewari district of Haryana, were injured after a brief exchange of gunfire on Thursday morning. They were rushed to the Civil Hospital in Sector-10 for treatment, said police. According to the police, the STF received a tip-off on Wednesday about their presence men in the area. Acting on the information, a team led by Inspector Rakesh Kumar reached the specified location around 3 am. Upon spotting the police, the suspects attempted to flee and opened fire on the team, discharging six rounds. 'Two bullets struck the bulletproof jackets of ASI Vikas and PSI Manoj, but no injuries were reported among the police personnel. Despite repeated warnings to surrender, the accused continued firing, prompting the STF to retaliate with three rounds aimed at the suspects' legs,' a police spokesperson said. The police recovered two illegal pistols and nine empty cartridge shells from the scene. Fingerprint analysis, Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), and Scene of Crime teams were called to inspect the site. A case has been registered against the accused at Sector-10 Police Station under relevant sections. 'Preliminary investigation revealed that the duo was planning a major criminal act. Nitin has a criminal record with seven cases registered against him in Rewari, including charges of theft, assault, brawls, and violations under the POCSO Act, along with one case under the Arms Act in Gurugram. Yashpal has one case each in Rewari for attacking a police team and in Gurugram under the Arms Act,' the spokesperson added. The accused will be formally arrested after their discharge from the hospital, police said, with further investigation still underway.

Man sentenced to nine-year jail for sexually assaulting minor girl
A Special Court for POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act cases in Tiruvallur has convicted and sentenced a 28-year-old man to nine-year-imprisonment for sexually assaulting a minor girl six years ago in Ennore. According to the police, the accused was Dilli Babu who was 22-year-old in 2019 and a resident of Tsunami quarters, Ernavur. On January 6, 2019, he sexually assaulted a minor girl from Ennore. He was booked under the provisions of POCSO. The court imposed a fine of ₹15,000 and ordered the authorities to pay a compensation of ₹2 lakh to the victim.

Odisha cop arrested for torturing minor wife
JAGATSINGHPUR: A sub-inspector (SI) of police from Puri, who had been on the run for the past five months after allegedly subjecting a minor girl to mental and physical torture following his marriage to her, was arrested from Andhra Pradesh's Visakhapatnam on Tuesday. The SI, Amit Padhi, was earlier suspended from duty by the Puri superintendent of police. According to sources, Padhi, of Ratei village under Baliapal police limits in Balasore, was serving as an SI in Puri. He came in contact with a 15-year-old girl from Khairang village in Jagatsinghpur district through Facebook in 2023. The two reportedly developed a relationship and later married at a temple in Rayagada in 2024, shortly after the girl turned 16. At that time, Padhi was posted in Rayagada. The victim, then a Class X student, was allegedly subjected to physical and mental harassment by her husband and in-laws soon after the marriage. Unable to bear the abuse, she returned to her parents' home in Jagatsinghpur. On April 23, the victim's mother lodged a complaint at Jagatsinghpur police station, accusing Padhi, his father Binoda Padhi, his mother Jayanti Padhi, and other family members of torturing and sexually exploiting her daughter. The girl, now 17, also submitted her birth certificate to prove her age at the time of the incidents. Based on the complaint, police registered a case under multiple sections of the BNS, along with sections 6 and 17 of the POCSO Act and sections 9 and 10 of the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act. Despite the seriousness of the charges and a court-issued warrant, no arrests were made for nearly five months. The victim's mother had repeatedly approached senior police officials, including the Jagatsinghpur SP, alleging deliberate inaction in the case as the accused belonged to the police force. She had also filed a petition in court seeking justice for her daughter. Jagatsinghpur SP Bhawani Shankar Udgata said, 'We arrested the SI from Visakhapatnam after tracking his cellphone. He was produced in court.'
