Ward 97 councillor, André Beetge, said the SCA will be switched off for an additional two hours from 21:00 to 05:00 tonight.
'This replacement should suffice in addressing the continued outages experienced in areas further south of the Amanzimtoti Water Works,' said Beetge.
He added that this will result in an extended water outage on July 18 as well, while the system recovers and storage is built.

Western Cape dam level RISE a relief for City of Cape Town residents

The Western Cape's major dams are swelling fast as persistent winter rains lash the province, bringing much-needed relief and pushing dam levels well above the 80% mark, according to the latest data from the City of Cape Town. As of Thursday, 17 July, the combined storage level of the six major dams has reached 83% capacity – up from 79.8% the previous week. While encouraging, the current levels remain slightly lower than the 93.1% recorded at the same time last year. Theewaterskloof Dam : 78.4% (The province's largest dam, supplying over half of Cape Town's water) : 78.4% Voëlvlei Dam : 80.7% : 80.7% Berg River, Steenbras Lower, Steenbras Upper, and Wemmershoek Dams: All show steady gains Forecasters are predicting more cold fronts and sustained rainfall in the coming days, which could give dam levels another boost as the Western Cape benefits from a wetter-than-average winter season. The rising dam levels are a stark contrast to the 2017-2018 water crisis, when Cape Town faced the looming threat of Day Zero – the point at which municipal water supplies would be shut off. During that period, Theewaterskloof Dam plunged below 20%, and water rationing became a harsh reality for residents. Although the risk has eased considerably, officials are reminding the public not to become complacent. 'While dam levels are encouraging, climate variability and long-term water demand still pose significant risks,' a City spokesperson warned. 'Water conservation must remain part of our everyday habits.' Residents are urged to continue using water sparingly and report leaks to help maintain the city's improved water security. Heavy rain warning issued for the coast

THE South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a Yellow Level 2 warning for disruptive rain affecting large parts of KZN, including the coastal areas of eThekwini Municipality, on July 19. Also read: Weather predicting system piloted in Isipingo and Umgababa According to SAWS, isolated showers and rain are forecast across the province, with heavier and more scattered downpours expected along the south coast and southern areas of KZN. Rainfall of between 30 to 50mm is predicted along the south coast, which may lead to localised flooding due to sustained rainfall in these areas. Possible impacts: • Localised flooding in vulnerable formal and informal settlements, especially in low-lying areas and around bridges. • Dangerous driving conditions on dirt roads, with increased risks of minor accidents caused by slippery surfaces and reduced visibility. • Damage to mud-built houses and other structures prone to water damage. Motorists and residents are advised to exercise caution, avoid crossing flooded roads, and ensure that drainage around homes is cleared. Disaster management teams have been alerted and are on standby to respond to any emergencies. The warning is valid from 00:00 until 17:59 on July 19. Rain and cooler weather set to sweep across KwaZulu-Natal

KwaZulu-Natal can expect a cold and wet Friday as a cold front continues to move across the country, bringing rain and chilly conditions. Rain will be more widespread along the coastal parts of the province, with scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms expected throughout the day. According to Phemelo Zonke, a SABC meteorologist, 'Scattered showers and rain are forecast along the coastal regions of KwaZulu-Natal, while isolated thunder showers are expected inland.' These conditions will likely result in slippery roads and poor visibility in some areas, especially in the morning, when fog is also expected in parts of the interior. Temperatures across KZN will remain cool, with many inland areas experiencing cloudy skies and light rain. Drivers and commuters should be prepared for slower travel and plan accordingly. The South African Weather Service has warned about damaging Northern Cape and North West winds, while the Western Cape faces strong coastal waves. Though KZN is not under severe warning, residents are urged to remain alert to changing conditions. Let us know by leaving a comment below, or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 021 1.
