Denny Hamlin, who won the NASCAR Cup series race at Michigan International Speedway last Sunday, will not compete this weekend in Mexico City due to the birth of his third child and first son on Wednesday.
Hamlin will stay in North Carolina with his fiancee Jordan Fish, two daughters and baby son. Ryan Truex will drive in his stead.
'See you guys in Pocono,' Hamlin posted on social media. 'We are happy to announce the birth of our son. Everyone is doing well. My main priority is to be here at home for Jordan and our family over the next few days when she is able to go home and we transition to life as a family of five.'
Fish was nearly two weeks past her due date and Hamlin was prepared to abandon the Michigan race if she went into labor. But the call never came and the veteran posted his third victory of the season and 57th of his career. He became the all-time wins leader for Joe Gibbs Racing, breaking a tie with Kyle Busch.
Hamlin currently ranks third in the Cup Series standings after 15 races. His streak of getting behind the wheel in 406 consecutive races -- which dates back to 2014 -- will come to an end in Mexico City.
NASCAR is expected to grant Hamlin a waiver so he can compete in the playoffs for the Cup Series Championship.
Truex is Gibbs' reserve driver and will compete in a Cup series event for the first time since 2014.

Adolis Garcia hits walk-off blast as Rangers stun Dodgers

(Photo credit: Jim Cowsert-Imagn Images) Adolis Garcia hit a walk-off two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth inning to lift the Texas Rangers to a 4-3 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Saturday afternoon in the middle game of a three-game interleague series in Arlington, Texas. Garcia's blast over the left field wall came off the Dodgers' Kirby Yates -- who was the Rangers' closer in 2024 -- and followed a leadoff double by Josh Smith. The home run was Garcia's fourth of the season, and it made a winner out of Jacob Webb (2-0), the third pitcher for Texas. Yates (1-1) had his first blown save of the year. Six players had one hit each for Los Angeles, which had a four-game winning streak snapped. Texas managed just five hits but evened the series while winning for the fourth time in five games. Shohei Ohtani missed his second straight game while on the paternity list. His wife gave birth to a daughter, it was announced Saturday. Both starters -- Roki Sasaki for Los Angeles and Nathan Eovaldi for Texas -- pitched well enough to win, but an error by Eovaldi made the difference in handing the Dodgers the lead. Sasaki allowed two runs on two hits over a career-high six innings while striking out four and walking three. Eovaldi gave up three runs (two earned) while scattering five hits and striking out seven without a walk. The Rangers struck first, going up 2-0 on Kyle Higashioka's two-run home run in the bottom of the third inning. The blast that also plated Dustin Harris, who had walked to start the inning, was just out of the reach of leaping Los Angeles left fielder Michael Conforto and was the first hit off Sasaki. The Dodgers wasted little time in answering, tying the game in the fourth when Freddie Freeman ripped a two-run homer down the right-field line that also scored Mookie Betts, who had singled in front of him. After a groundout, Conforto singled and went to second when Eovaldi's pickoff throw to first base hit him in the back and rolled away. Max Muncy followed with a double to the right-center field gap that allowed Conforto to trot home and give Los Angeles a 3-2 lead. Neither team threatened as they got into their respective bullpens. Sasaki was followed to the mound by Jack Dreyer (one inning), Evan Phillips (two-thirds of an inning, two strikeouts and one single) and Alex Vesia (one-third of an inning) before Yates. Robert Garcia pitched the seventh for Texas and Webb retired all six batters he faced over the final two innings. The series between the past two World Series champions will conclude Sunday afternoon. --Field Level Media

Sabalenka douses Raducanu fire to reach fourth round

LONDON: Aryna Sabalenka looked shaken and stirred on Friday as it appeared she would become the most high-profile name to join the mass exodus of Wimbledon seeds before her survival instincts kicked in to secure a 7-6(6) 6-4 third-round win over Emma Raducanu. Wimbledon fans are no strangers to floodlit blockbusters featuring British home favourites, with Andy Murray providing plenty of late-night thrills under a closed Centre Court roof during his stellar career. On Friday, after being kept waiting till 8 pm local time (1900 GMT) to take centre stage, it was Raducanu's turn to provide the drama as she played some electrifying tennis to surge into a 4-2 lead in the first set and was again up 4-1 in the second. Unfortunately for Raducanu, getting over the finishing line proved a step too far. "She played such incredible tennis and she pushed me really hard. To get this win, I had to fight for every point like crazy," the world number one told the crowd after improving her record over British opponents to 9-0. "She was making me move a lot, serving well and playing great tennis from the baseline. I was just trying to stay focused and put as many balls as I could on her side. I just tried to put all of the pressure on her." The 22-year-old Raducanu kept the Belarusian guessing with her breathtaking shot-making that earned her a break in the fifth game to the delight of the 15,000-strong crowd who roared on every Raducanu winner and cheered on every Sabalenka error. Although Sabalenka, the sole survivor among the top six women's seeds, gained back the break, she was left shell-shocked when she missed seven set, and break, points at 5-4 on Raducanu's serve, with the Briton serving her way out of trouble. At the eighth time of asking, in the tiebreak, Sabalenka finally silenced the crowd when she produced a stop volley to bag the set, her achievement being greeted by only a smattering of applause. Raducanu, who has spent a long time in the tennis wilderness following her mind-boggling win at the U.S. Open in 2021 as a qualifier, wanted to prove that she was back to her best by following up her win over 2023 Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova with victory over Sabalenka. When she surged into a 4-1 lead in the second, and even had a break point to take a 5-1 lead, it seemed that she had it in her grasp to drag the contest into a deciding set. But just as the spectators on Centre Court, and the thousands more cheering on from a heaving Henman Hill, started believing that Raducanu had the momentum, and the weapons, to pull off an improbable win against an opponent who has contested the last three Grand Slam finals, reality struck. Sabalenka turned on the power to win the last five games to extinguish Raducanu's hopes of reaching the fourth round for the third time, with the Briton netting a service return on match point. "What an atmosphere. My ears are still hurting, honestly. It was super loud! Every time you were cheering her, I was trying to tell myself to just pretend that you were just cheering for me. I had goosebumps honestly, so thank you for the atmosphere," said the top seed, who will next face Belgium's Elise Mertens. — REUTERS
