Yahoo13 hours ago

After more than a decade-long hiatus from the big screen, Shane Meadows is making a return to cinema with a new film, Chork.
Penned by Adolescence writer Jack Thorne and set along the east coast of England, Chork follows 15-year-old Kit and 11-year-old Ani as they leave their foster home and trek across the coastline in hopes of a brighter future. With the police in pursuit and a national search underway, Kit must use all her determination and wits to protect Ani and fulfil their mission.

Cast by Meadows' frequent collaborator, Shaheen Baig (Adolescence, Hot Milk), the two have secured the film's lead cast with open casting calls taking place earlier in the year throughout the U.K.
'To be returning to film after 17 years, writing alongside 'megadude' Jack Thorne again, and working with so many gifted collaborators, has been an absolute privilege,' said Meadows. 'Our story follows two beyond bright, funny as heck and mischievously ingenious young people on a 'runaway' road trip the length of this glorious isle.'
'Safe to say,' he continued, 'I'm beyond excited about what we've captured on their journey. I'm also hugely grateful to our partners at BBC Film, BFI, Screen Yorkshire, Hoopsa Films and Altitude for their undying trust and support throughout.'
Meadows gained critical acclaim with features TwentyFourSeven, Dead Man's Shoes, A Room for Romeo Brass and Somers Town. His television credits include This Is England, which premiered in Toronto in 2006, The Virtues starring Stephen Graham and The Gallows Pole.
Chork is produced by Ben Pugh and Cathy King for 42, Lauren Dark and Amy Jackson for Unified, Meadows' Big Arty and Thorne's One Shoe Films, both of whom will also executive produce.
The film is financed by BBC Film, BFI (awarding National Lottery funding), Screen Yorkshire (via the Yorkshire Content Fund) and Hoopsa Films.
Executive producers are Eva Yates and Kristin Irving for BBC Film, Louise Ortega for the BFI, Caroline Cooper Charles for Screen Yorkshire, Sonny Gill and Tim Macready for Hoopsa Films, and Ali Jazayeri and Keith Kehoe for Three Picture Capital alongside Laura Jackson and Joshua Horsfield. The film was developed with BBC Film.
Altitude will release Chork in U.K. and Irish cinemas in 2026 and will manage international sales.
Yates, director of BBC Film, added: 'The films of Shane Meadows are at the heart of contemporary British independent cinema and we are hugely excited to support his return, with a cast of exceptional new actors, his brilliant writing collaborator Jack Thorne, and an anarchic story of love, redemption and the untapped and profound potential of youth.'

Singer Jessie J undergoes surgery for breast cancer

Singer Jessie J says she has undergone surgery for breast cancer and is now resting at home while awaiting her results. In a social media post, the 37-year-old star thanked her doctor, surgeon and "all the nurses who cared for me", sharing series of photos and videos of her time in hospital. She described the post as the "honest lows and highs of the last 48 hours" and promised to "always show the good and hard bits of any journey I go through". The Essex singer revealed her early breast cancer diagnosis at the beginning of June and received widespread support from fellow colleagues for sharing her experience. She said at the time she would be having the surgery after her performance at Capital's Summertime Ball, a mini-festival at London's Wembley Stadium held on 15 June. In her post on Monday night, Jessie J shared pictures of her partner Chanan Safir Colman and their son visiting her in hospital. One of the videos included was a clip of her singing in a hospital bed waiting to go into surgery. Another video showed her post-surgery holding up a bottle of blood drained from her breasts which she joked was a "goji berry smoothie". View this post on Instagram A post shared by Jessie J (@jessiej) The pop star said she was "grateful" for everyone who helped her during the treatment process and gave encouragement to others facing difficult circumstances. "Still hugging everyone going through something tough right now. We all got this!" she wrote. Fans and industry colleagues have already responded with well wishes and messages of support. TV presenter Gaby Roslin replied in the comments: "Sending you strength, energy and so much love you beautiful soul." "I know Sky will be keeping you smiling and giving you strength... You're an absolute warrior," singer Marvin Hume wrote. When she revealed her diagnosis earlier this month, Jessie J said she wanted to go public with the news in order to help process it and show solidarity with others going through a similar ordeal. Gino D'Acampo puts £4.2million home up for sale after inappropriate behaviour allegations

Gino D'Acampo has reportedly put his £4.2million mansion up for sale. The MailOnline reports the Italian chef, 48, listed the Hertfordshire property last week, months after his alleged misconduct scandal. In February, D'Acampo was hit with dozens of accusations of sexually inappropriate and 'distressing' behaviour towards colleagues over the past 12 years, which he denies. Along with seven bedrooms, the Grade II listed terrace property also has six bathrooms, and the paper reports D'Acampo and his wife Jessica recently restored the Georgian house. The property also has a garden, complete with an outside kitchen and a Jacuzzi, along with a garden studio, which is currently used as a gym and cinema room. Typical of Georgian homes, the house also includes tall ceilings with roses and fireplaces in eight of the rooms. 'Gino's had a tough time lately so selling the family home will also add to the sadness,' a source told the paper. 'Himself and Jessica put so much work into turning the property into their dream home.' The Standard have contacted representatives of D'Acampo for comment. Last month, it was reported his last remaining restaurants were saved from closure in a £5 million deal. In February, D'Acampo was accused of 'horrendous' misconduct on various TV shows in an ITV News investigation. He reportedly made lewd sexual comments to a female colleague in one alleged incident in 2011 and allegedly kissed a famous footballer's wife on the lips at a charity event in 2012. He also allegedly made 'disgusting' sexual comments about whether he would sleep with his ITV co-star Holly Willoughby or her close friend, presenter Fearne Cotton. The Road Trip star has "firmly denied" the allegations and described them as "deeply upsetting". "I have never been made aware of these matters previously and the allegations are firmly denied,' he said in a statement. 'I would not do anything that I thought would upset or distress anyone. This is simply not in my nature. I do not recognise the version of events being put to me." The former This Morning star has been keeping a low profile since the scandal hit, however last month he made a return to the spotlight to promote the opening of his new restaurant in Malta. He made a series of lewd comments during a radio interview, where he said men don't like 'skinny' women because there's no 'meat' to hold onto, before boasting that Italian men can give 'maximum satisfaction'. When a female presenter named Nicole said she regularly goes on diets, he replied: 'Only dogs like bones.' He then appeared to mime grabbing a woman's body with his hands, saying: 'A real man, he wants the meat... Don't get too skinny, otherwise it's like, no.' The TV personality also told her, 'You're too pretty for radio,' according to The Sun.

Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise Turn Heads in Rare Public Appearance

Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise were supposed to star in a version of Ford v Ferrari with director Joseph Kosinski attached to direct. "Pitt and Cruise insisted on driving for real, and their director wanted it that way too. But, Kosinski says, the studio wouldn't meet the budget he proposed," GQ revealed in Pitt's interview in May. James Mangold ended up directing Ford v Ferrari with Christian Bale and Matt Damon instead. 'Tom always pushes it to the limit, but at the same time is super capable and very skilled,' Kosinski said when asked by GQ about what would've happened had Cruise landed the star role in F1. 'They both have the natural talent for driving. But yeah, I could see Tom maybe scaring us a little bit more.' Just a few years later, Cruise and Pitt were spotted together in a surprise appearance. During the F1 premiere in London, Cruise was a surprise guest 31 years after the iconic acting duo starred together in Neil Jordan's 1994 horror classic Interview With the Vampire.
