Manchester United's summer transfer plans are now fully focused on signing a striker, with Viktor Gyokeres their top target, though Sporting Lisbon are reluctant to sell Manchester United's full focus is now on signing a new striker after being snubbed by Liam Delap. Viktor Gyokeres is now their top target following a stunning two-year spell with Sporting Lisbon. He has fired them to two successive Primeira Liga titles, as well as this season's Taca de Portugal. Sporting are understood to be willing to sell him, though they have risen the price tag they initially set out. That has spooked a number of suitors, with Gyokeres growing increasingly frustrated over the lack of movement. So much so that the Swedish striker is now threatening to go on strike to force a transfer. That comes as Sporting boss Rui Borges delivered a cryptic update on the future of the 27-year-old. Meanwhile, Brighton star Pervis Estupinan has issued a come-and-get-me plea to interested suitors. United have been heavily linked with a move for the Ecuador international and his comments could boost their pursuit. Here, Mirror Football rounds up all the latest Manchester United transfer news. Gyokeres to 'go on strike' Viktor Gyokeres is ready to go on strike to force through a transfer exit from Sporting Lisbon. The Swedish star has become one of the hottest properties in Europe, having scored 97 goals in two years in Portugal. But the 27-year-old is growing increasingly frustrated over the lack of movement over a potential deal. Sporting are making life hard for interested suitors, which has infuriated Gyokeres, who has made his desire to move clear. Now in an effort to force through an exit, Record reports that Gyokeres has informed the Portuguese champions that he will not play for the club agin. The striker is said to feel 'disrespected' by Sporting chiefs and is angry over broken promises. Estupinan issues come-and-get-me plea Brighton left back Pervis Estupinan has admitted he is looking to move on from the Seagulls this summer. He has impressed since arriving from Villarreal, drawing the attenion of Manchester United 'The truth is they have been three years in Brighton with a lot of learning,' said Estupinan. But this will be a transfer market with a lot of movement. The club know that I would like to grow, that I would like to keep growing. 'The club have understood this. I've spoken to the club. The club have given me this bit of freedom to be able to make a decision. Now we will try to see better what is on the table and to see where we can go." Sporting boss in cryptic Gyokeres update Sporting Lisbon boss Rui Borges has refused to confirm Viktor Gyokeres' future at the club. The striker is desperate to secure a move this summer having emerged as one of Europe's hottest strikers. The Portuguese giants are less keen to allow him to leave though, prompting a rift to form. And Borges has refused to discuss the future of the Swedish, as he was handed a tribute by his hometown of Mirandela. "Gyökeres? Sporting's future begins on July 1st. That's all I can say and today I'm here to, above all, salute this tribute that was paid to me. That's all. I'm on vacation, I'm not here to talk about that", Borges said. Jonny Evans makes surprise announcement on future after Man Utd release him
Jonny Evans has been released by Manchester United and the defender remains uncertain about what could come next in his career when he leaves the Red Devils this month Jonny Evans is in no rush to make a decision on his future after it was confirmed he would be released by Manchester United. The defender is set to see his contract expire at the end of the month with no renewal forthcoming. But despite the 37-year-old being firmly in the twilight of his career, no official announcement on a retirement has arrived, though he is expected to do so. The Northern Irish defender is set to reflect on his situation before making a decision over his next steps. Evans is set to end his second spell at Old Trafford having returned to the club in 2023 to take on a senior role in the dressing room and to provide additional depth in United's backline. The veteran probably played more than anticipated making 30 appearances in his first season back to see his contract extended by a further year. Evans was called upon less frequently last term in a difficult season and joins the likes of Christian Eriksen and Victor Lindelof in exiting the club. Tom Heaton remains in discussions over potentially extending his stay. It had been suggested Evans' departure could mark the end of his career, after Evans noted 'It was stay here or retire' last summer. The defender is yet to make plans however. "I'm not sure yet," Evans told BBC Sport NI when asked about his future . "I'll take a bit of time. I don't feel like I'm in a rush to do anything." In his eight years away from Manchester, Evans spent three years at West Bromwich Albion and five years at Leicester. The central defender added an FA Cup victory in 2021 to three Premier League titles, a Champions League, an FA Cup and two League Cup success across his two stints with the Red Devils. Evans earned 107 caps for Northern Ireland and provided some analysis on where the nation stands during his appearance on BBC. The ex-Sunderland loanee is hopeful his former boss, Michael O'Neill can lead the country to World Cup qualification. "When you've got Michael O'Neill in charge, he gives everyone a little bit of hope," said Evans, "He's taken the team to a major tournament before and if you want anyone in charge, it's him. "When I look at this team it reminds me of ourselves. He's playing five at the back and he has Isaac Price, he's on a good run of form. "You look throughout the team, you see Dan Ballard and Trai Hume getting promoted, they'll be playing Premier League football and that'll only be good for the team. I'm excited. Over the next couple of years I think we'll see them progress together." Join our new MAN UTD WhatsApp community and receive your daily dose of Manchester United content from Mirror Football.
