MeeSeva to expand digital kiosks with new services
HYDERABAD: Telangana's Electronic Services Delivery (ESD) is set to expand its MeeSeva initiative by integrating 11 additional Road Transport Authority (RTA) services into the self-service kiosk at Khairatabad's RTO office. The move aims to streamline vehicle and transport services, building on the success of the MeeSeva Digital Kiosks, which have served thousands since their launch on December 8, 2024.
The state is also finalising integration with Protean eGov Technologies Limited to roll out new PAN card services. Citizens will soon be able to apply for physical or e-PAN cards at MeeSeva centres and receive them within days. Additionally, the Licensed Surveyor Training 2025 programme has shortlisted 7,003 candidates for the first spell and 3,028 for the second, with training to begin at district headquarters under the Telangana Academy for Land Information and Management (TALIM).
Launched during the Praja Palana Vijayotsavalu, the MeeSeva Digital Kiosks are now operational at five key locations, including the Hyderabad Collectorate and Khairatabad's RTO office. These kiosks offer 10 essential services, including GHMC birth and death certificates, water and electricity bill payments, and the reissuance of community and income certificates. With features such as QR code-based payments, high-resolution scanners and uninterrupted power supply, the kiosks provide contactless, transparent and accessible services, even in remote areas.
The initiative, spearheaded by IT Minister D Sridhar Babu, supports the state's e-Governance goals by reducing the need for physical visits to government offices. The kiosks' after-hours functionality and robust software have been praised for improving public engagement and preventing overcharging. As Telangana strengthens its citizen-centric governance, the expansion of MeeSeva services highlights its commitment to technology-driven, inclusive service delivery.

Webinar held on registering old age homes, women's homes, and hostels on e-Sevai portal
The Department of Social Welfare and SimpleGov organised a webinar on how to apply for services that are available on the e-Sevai portal. The webinar focused on three services – registration of old age homes, registration and licence for homes for women; and licence for working women's hostels. Many NGOs, especially those in the hostel industry, took part in the webinar. Last month, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin launched SimpleGov, which has simplified the process of availing various services and schemes offered by the government. P.W.C. Davidar, Advisor (Digital and Simplified Governance) to Tamil Nadu e-Governance Agency (TneGA), explained how easy it was to obtain licences now. 'For those who don't have access to the internet, they can visit the nearest e-Sevai centre. We have done away with the practice of asking for unnecessary documents. One can now download the licences online,' he said. 'All necessary documents can be uploaded by the applicants themselves. Once the payment is done, they can check the status and download the certificates,' Mr. Davidar said. The validity of some of the licences have been extended. For instance, the licence for Homes for Women is now valid for 10 years. In the case of old age homes, if there are fewer than 20 people operating under a cooperative model and supporting each other, registration is not required. However, if they operate as a trust, registration is mandatory. Obtaining sanitation and fire certificates has also been simplified. In the case of a public building licence, any empanelled engineer can provide a structural soundness certificate. For hostels obtaining new licences, renewal and closure can be done online. In case the application has been returned, its status can be checked online. All information related to these services is available on where registration can also be done. Homes for women are run by NGOs to provide shelter, food, clothing, counselling, training, medical support and legal aid to women in difficult circumstances. The registration of such homes is mandatory to ensure proper regulation, monitoring, and adherence to standards for the safety and well-being of the residents. Registration of old age homes is mandatory to ensure proper regulation, monitoring, and compliance with standards for the welfare of elderly residents. It prevents exploitation, ensures quality care, and allows homes to avail government benefits or subsidies. Registration also promotes accountability and transparency.

Maruti launches flexible EMI plan to upgrade small cars to Grand Vitara
Maruti Suzuki India (MSIL) is planning to launch a financial scheme aimed at making SUV ownership more accessible for entry-level car owners--including Alto, WagonR or similar segment buyers. Under this initiative, customers who own a small car of any brand, can purchase the Grand Vitara sport utility vehicle (SUV) through an EMI plan. The scheme, which will be piloted in Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, and Bengaluru, allows customers to buy the Grand Vitara at a monthly instalment of nearly ₹9,999, which is nearly 20 per cent lower than standard EMIs available in the market, the company said. 'Our target is people who already own a small car and are ready to move want to make that upgrade easy and accessible,' said Partho Banerjee, senior executive officer, sales & marketing, MSIL, in an interview with Business Standard. According to the plan, the customer's existing car will be treated as the down payment and its valuation will vary based on factors such as age, ownership history, and mileage. Customers will also be eligible for an exchange bonus. The remaining cost will be financed and paid back over a five-year tenure. One of the key features of the scheme is the guaranteed buyback option. After five years or 75,000 km of usage, customers will have the option to return the vehicle at an assured value of 50 per cent of the original ex-showroom price. Alternatively, they can retain the car by paying the remaining balance. 'This is a flexible and low-risk option for customers. It gives them a sense of assurance and helps ease the financial burden of moving into a more premium vehicle,' Banerjee said. This is the first time a mass market car manufacturer has launched such an EMI upgrade scheme. The offer is valid across all variants of the Grand Vitara SUV, with EMI amounts varying depending on the model selected. Banerjee added that the company will monitor the response in the three pilot cities. 'If the model works well, we'll expand it to other cities and extend it to more models -- especially our upcoming e-Vitara,' he said. Global premium automakers have long offered trade-in and flexible finance options to make high-end models more accessible. Mercedes-Benz, for example, offers a 'guaranteed future value' plan that bundles easy EMIs with assured returns on trade-ins. These initiatives have helped luxury brands attract younger professionals, a strategy Maruti now seems to be adapting for the mass-market SUV buyer. The timing of Maruti's scheme also coincides with a prolonged slump in India's small-car segment. Maruti Chairman RC Bhargava has previously flagged this trend as a concern, warning that a continued drop in naturally affordable small cars could hamper overall market growth. With vehicle prices steadily rising across segments and financing costs remaining a concern for many middle-income households, the company believes this initiative could tap into a large, underserved segment of aspiring SUV buyers. 'This kind of scheme gives them affordability, flexibility, and a clear exit path — all rolled into one,' Banerjee noted.

Tesla share price climbs 7% after $152 billion selloff even as Elon Musk-Trump truce uncertain; stock down 20% YTD
Tesla shares recouped some losses triggered by a spat between CEO Elon Musk and U.S. President Donald Trump, although a truce appeared uncertain on Friday as a White House official said the president was not keen on talking to his former ally. The stock rose 4% after a steep fall in the previous session that wiped out $152 billion in market value when the world's most powerful man and its richest publicly entered a war of words over the tax and spending bill. Earlier, a Politico report had said Trump and Musk were likely to talk later in the day. Musk had signalled on X he was open to easing tensions with the president, agreeing with calls for a detente from users on the social media platform. Tensions escalated on Thursday after Musk stepped up his criticism of Trump's sweeping tax bill, which proposed largely ending the popular $7,500 EV tax incentive by the end of 2025. In response, Trump suggested cuts to the government's contracts with Musk's companies, including rocket maker SpaceX. Tesla stock is down 29.5% this year after a 14% drop on Thursday. Still, the shares trade at 120 times expected earnings, a lofty multiple compared to other automakers and even tech giants such as Nvidia. The shares have been on a turbulent ride since last July when Musk backed Trump's White House bid. They surged initially as investors bet on less regulatory pressure for robotaxis, but tumbled due to soft sales and brand fallout from Musk's political stance. all Street rebounded on Friday and U.S. Treasury yields jumped as a generally upbeat employment report and a bounce-back in Tesla shares helped put the indexes on track for weekly advances. All three major U.S. stock indexes surged from the starting gate with robust gains, while bitcoin jumped and crude prices touched their highest level since late April. The U.S. economy added 139,000 jobs in May, topping analyst expectations, while the unemployment rate held firm at 4.2%, according to the Labor Department. The report also showed hotter-than-anticipated wage growth, rounding out a report that is unlikely to convince the U.S. Federal Reserve to cut its key policy rate in the near-term. U.S. Treasury yields also rode the wave of the upbeat jobs data. The yield on benchmark U.S. 10-year notes rose 7.5 basis points to 4.47%, from 4.395% late on Thursday. The 30-year bond yield rose 5.1 basis points to 4.9346% from 4.884% late on Thursday. The pan-European STOXX 600 index rose 0.31%, while Europe's broad FTSEurofirst 300 index rose 6.86 points, or 0.31% Emerging market stocks fell 1.29 points, or 0.11%, to 1,181.39. MSCI's broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan closed lower by 0.14% to 622.39, while Japan's Nikkei rose 187.12 points, or 0.50%, to 37,741.61. The dollar gained ground against major currencies in the wake of the better-than-expected employment data. The dollar index, which measures the greenback against a basket of currencies including the yen and the euro, rose 0.57% to 99.22, with the euro down 0.48% at $1.1389. Against the Japanese yen, the dollar strengthened 1% to 144.96.
