Moomoo Malaysia Supported by Bursa Malaysia Launch Campaign to Drive Retail Investor Growth and Capability

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia, June 6, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Moomoo Securities Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. ('Moomoo Malaysia') has launched a strategic investor development campaign supported by Bursa Malaysia in conjunction with Bursa Malaysia's Shares2U program, aimed at equipping Malaysian retail investors with the tools, incentives, and market structure needed to engage capital markets with greater confidence and competence.
Running from 6 June to 7 July 2025, this campaign blends incentive-led onboarding with performance-based learning. New and experienced investors alike can access a streamlined, technology-driven trading experience via the Moomoo Malaysia platform, which offers tools, insights, and live data to support smarter investment decisions. The campaign introduces a two-pronged opportunity for Malaysians to build investing confidence through:
Rewards worth up to RM 2,200 for new moomoo users, including RM 400 worth of Bursa-listed stocks, and
A national Malaysia stock trading challenge that is open to all users, with a total prize pool of up to RM 14,000, designed to sharpen real-market trading skills.
Central to the campaign is moomoo's emphasis on capability-building. The platform delivers real-time market data, advanced screeners, and analytics tools typically used by professional investors tailored for Malaysian users. By aligning incentives with trading education and decision-making, the campaign supports more informed, self-directed participation in Malaysia's capital markets.
'The long-term health of Malaysia's capital markets will be shaped not by short-term retail surges, but by sustained, self-directed investor capability,' said Ivan Mok, Chief Executive Officer of Moomoo Malaysia. 'This campaign supports that trajectory – not just through access to market, but through informed engagement with the market. In partnership with Bursa Malaysia, we're combining institutional trust with our professional-grade, real-time trading tools to help Malaysians become active, smart and informed participants in the stock market.'
Elevating Investor Literacy at Scale
Unlike traditional campaigns focused solely on incentives, this initiative emphasises market experience and financial literacy. The moomoo platform provides Malaysian users with institutional-grade tools, including real-time data feeds, advanced screeners, and analytics, in a retail-accessible environment. This technology-first approach is intended to strengthen trading discipline and investor readiness across market cycles.
'With markets entering a more uncertain phase – from renewed trade tensions to sector-level volatility, the gap between simply participating and investing with discipline is becoming more obvious,' said Ivan Mok, CEO of Moomoo Malaysia. 'In this environment, investors need more than access. They need the tools and experience to think strategically, manage risk, and stay engaged. That's the focus of this campaign, to help investors build capability in real time, with the tools and experience to think strategically, manage risk, and stay engaged in the market.'
The trading challenge is open to all users, while additional rewards are available exclusively to new users who meet the qualifying deposit criteria. For more information, visit our website.

DRG model still challenging for private healthcare

Unlike the conventional fee-for-service model, the DRG system sets a fixed price for treatments based on case complexity and industry benchmarks. PETALING JAYA: Malaysia's diagnosis related group (DRG) model to manage rising healthcare costs and allocate medical resources remains a challenge for implementation in private hospitals, analysts say. This is despite efforts to find solutions, including data collection. The issue is compounded by absence of a universal healthcare financing system in Malaysia. Unlike the conventional fee-for-service model, the DRG system sets a fixed price for treatments based on case complexity and industry benchmarks. According to Bank Negara data, medical inflation in the country reached 15% last year compared with the global average of 10% and the Asia Pacific average of 11%. For insurers, this becomes a problem as claims rose by 73% between 2021 and 2023 while premiums collected only increased by 21%. CIMB Research, who spoke to Association of Private Hospitals Malaysia (APHM) president Datuk Dr Kuljit Singh, said implementation of the DRG model in private hospitals could be challenging due to the absence of a universal healthcare financing framework and limited data availability despite efforts focused on generating and collecting data. The research house, quoting Kuljit, noted that no robust DRG models exist globally for private healthcare except in cases involving a single funder or universal healthcare financing. Public hospitals have all come under a mix of the DRG model and annual budgets to fund and provide for healthcare. 'Most countries use DRG in public healthcare to calculate costs and determine government budgets. In private settings, challenges emerge when patients face complications or require additional care beyond what the system covers,' the research house said, adding that the lack of data accuracy makes an effective rollout of the DRG model challenging for private hospitals. Despite the challenges, Kuljit shared that APHM-affiliated hospitals have been working closely with the Health Ministry and holding regular engagements to support an effective rollout of the DRG model. CIMB Research has maintained an 'overweight' stance on healthcare stocks, underpinned by the defensive nature of such stocks and the demand for private healthcare. Growth prospects remain supported by organic expansion, the rising prevalence of non-communicable diseases and an ageing population. IHH Healthcare Bhd remains the research house's top pick with a 'buy' call and target price of RM8.50. It has a 'hold' rating on KPJ Healthcare Bhd with a target price of RM2.90. 'Within our coverage, we believe KPJ is more exposed to risks from the possible implementation of DRG in Malaysia, given that 98.1% of its revenue for the first quarter for this year (1Q25) was derived locally. 'In comparison, we estimate Malaysian operations contributed only 18% to 21% of IHH's 1Q25 revenue,' the research house said. IHH has a presence across Malaysia, Singapore, Turkiye, Europe and India.

HSBC ups its game to cater to the wealthy

HSBC Malaysia's Yip said HSBC's Quality of Life study found that affluent Malaysians are diversifying their wealth to preserve their lifestyle and plan for future generations. KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia is expected to see a significant increase in the percentage of adults with at least RM1mil in financial wealth over this decade, according to HSBC Bank. HSBC head of international wealth and premier banking for Asia Kai Zhang said the percentage is projected to double, in line with the country's economic expansion. 'As the Malaysian economy grows, and our real gross domestic product growth forecast for Malaysia is 4.2% this year, so does the opportunity to build and sustain wealth,' Zhang said at the launch of the all-new HSBC Premier service yesterday. HSBC Malaysia country head of international wealth and premier banking Linda Yip said the affluent market in Malaysia is also expanding. Citing estimates by consulting company GlobalData, she said Malaysia's affluent segment, including high-net-worth individuals, is projected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 5.4% between 2025 and 2029, with liquid assets expected to reach nearly US$350bil in four years. Yip said HSBC's Quality of Life study found that affluent Malaysians are diversifying their wealth to preserve their lifestyle and plan for future generations. The study showed that 78% of their portfolios are in investments such as fixed income, bonds and equities, with the remaining 22% in cash. The survey also found that 51% consider savings for vacation or leisure a top financial goal, while 48% place health and wellbeing among their main priorities. 'Malaysia is witnessing rapid growth in its affluent segment and with that growth comes evolving needs. 'Affluent customers now seek holistic solutions that help them accelerate their wealth, while also prioritising health and wellbeing,' Yip said. With that in mind, HSBC introduced its all-new HSBC Premier service which is built around four pillars – wealth, health, travel and international coverage – to cater to these evolving needs. The launch follows previous enhancements to its Premier services, including the introduction of HSBC Premier Elite in 2024, the opening of its flagship Wealth Centre at Tun Razak Exchange and the establishment of the HSBC Wealth Academy. Under the wealth pillar, customers have access to more than 350 investment solutions, digital investment service features and advisory support to monitor their portfolios. The health pillar includes discounts on health screenings and wellness packages through a partnership with Sunway Healthcare Group. The travel pillar offers rewards and benefits through HSBC travel cards for Premier and Premier Elite customers, while the international pillar includes global money transfers to over 50 countries with no fees, preferential foreign exchange rates and access to 11 major currencies.

FBM KLCI climbs to four-month high on optimism

KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia extended its winning streak to seven consecutive sessions, with the FBM KLCI closing at a four-month high, driven by US July inflation data that came in slightly below expectations at 2.7%, boosting hopes of a Federal Reserve (Fed) rate cut in September. At 5pm, the FBM KLCI jumped 18.70 points, or 1.19%, to close at 1,586.60 from yesterday's close of 1,567.90. The benchmark index opened 1.17 points firmer at 1,569.07, marking its day's low, and hit a high of 1,590.61 during the mid-morning session. The broader market was positive, with advancers trouncing decliners 686 to 390, while 491 counters were unchanged, 955 untraded and 18 suspended. Turnover improved to 2.71 billion units worth RM3.07bil from 2.53 billion units worth RM2.15bil on Tuesday. UOB Kay Hian Wealth Advisors Sdn Bhd's head of investment research Mohd Sedek Jantan said the prospect of US monetary easing has directly influenced sectoral performance on Bursa Malaysia. 'The FBM Technology Index and the FBM Financial Services Index led the broader market, each advancing more than 1%. 'Among the FBM KLCI constituents, telecommunications stocks were the top gainers, benefitting from investor rotation into defensive, high-dividend plays amid a stronger ringgit and a softer US dollar,' he told Bernama. He said that rising commodity prices lent additional support to palm oil and energy counters, underpinning the breadth of market gains. Meanwhile, market sentiment was also supported by upbeat regional market performance as well as easing trade tensions following the extension of a 90-day suspension on higher tariffs for Chinese goods. 'Investors are now turning their attention to the upcoming US producer price index and retail sales data due later this week,' he added. Among the heavyweights, Malayan Banking Bhd added 15 sen to RM9.86, Public Bank Bhd gained four sen to RM4.44, Tenaga Nasional Bhd perked up 22 sen to RM13.80, CIMB Group Holdings Bhd rose 18 sen to RM7.19, and IHH Healthcare Bhd put on nine sen to RM6.91. Of the most active counters, Sersol Bhd bagged one sen to 2.5 sen and Telekom Malaysia Bhd surged 23 sen to RM7.23. Meanwhile, Classita Holdings Bhd inched down half-a-sen to nine sen, Tanco Holdings Bhd fell two sen to RM70.5 sen, while Pharmaniaga Bhd was flat at 18.5 sen.
