Reno 14 series: Google Gemini will work with OPPO apps in upcoming phones
China's OPPO has announced a partnership with Google to integrate Gemini AI in the OPPO Reno 14 series. The company has announced that the OPPO Reno 14 Series will integrate Gemini with OPPO's core apps. With this, Gemini will be able to pull information and take actions across multiple apps and services, including OPPO Notes, Calendar, and Clock. The Reno 14 Series has already launched in China, where Google services are not available. This suggests that the Gemini AI integration is intended for the global variants of the smartphones. For camera, the Pro variant offers a triple rear camera set-up comprising a 50MP primary sensor, a 50MP ultra-wide lens, and a 50MP telephoto lens. AI regulation must catch up with reality As AI giants such as OpenAI, Meta, Google, Anthropic and Microsoft unveil deeper integrations of their AI models, a range of users and regulators are raising serious questions about how these companies sourced the huge troves of data that were used to build their diverse chatbot offerings. This question now leads us back to the various privacy cases that have stuck to companies such as Meta and Google, where plaintiffs alleged that their data was collected without their permission or that they were being tracked and targeted without their knowledge or informed consent. While a U.S. federal judge noted that Google illegally dominated two markets in the online advertising technology space, Google felt that the U.S. Department of Justice's measures to reduce its dominance went far beyond the court's decision. Google claimed that steps such as sharing more data with rivals would harm its customers, and that the premise of the case focused more on data sharing rather than safeguarding the data of users. Another issue is how Generative AI is changing the way consumers and businesses interact with the web, leading to the question of whether Google holds an illegal monopoly in this space as well. Google said that it believed the court's original decision was wrong, and that it would look forward to its appeal. U.S to closely check visa applicants' social media A cable from U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio indicating that foreign students applying for a visa to study in the U.S. could face enhanced scrutiny of their social media handles has triggered fears about how one's social media activity could lead to the potential loss of education opportunities. In particular, those planning to visit, study, or work at Harvard University are facing expanded checks, according to reports. This update comes in the wake of anti-Israel protests on U.S. university campuses that the government has deemed to be an expression of antisemitism aimed at American Jews rather than a form of political opposition to Israel's military violence against Palestinians. OnePlus 13s launching on 5 June in India: Expected price, specs, and all you need to kow
OnePlus's latest compact flagship, OnePlus 13s is launching in India on June 5 with the new OnePlus AI features and the Plus Key. The upcoming smartphone will be powered by the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite processor and is likey to be a rebranded version of the OnePlus 13T that launched in China last month. OnePlus 13s has already been confirmed to come in three colourways: Black Velvet, Pink Satin, and Green Silk. The phone gives up the traditional circular camera module seen on the OnePlus 13 and OnePlus 13R in favour of a large rectangular setup that also houses the camera flash. The alert slider that has long been a staple on OnePlus devices is being replaced with the Plus Key - an iPhone like customizable key that can trigger various tasks including switching ring profiles, launching camera, starting translation and even recordings. However, the standout feature of this key will be to trigger the OnePlus AI Plus Mind which will capture all the on-screen content and analyze it for fore future reference. Apart from Plus Key, OnePlus also bringing a new suite of AI features with the OnePlus 13s which includes AI VoiceScribe, AI Translation, AI Search, AI Reframe and AI Best Face 2.0. The company says it has also deepened integration with Gemini to make sure that its native apps like OnePlus Notes and Clock are compatible with Google's AI assistant. As for the other specs of the phone, the OnePlus 13s is likely to have much of the similar features as the OnePlus 13T barring the selfie shooter which has been confirmed to feature a 32MP auto-focus shooter instead of the 16MP shooter on the Chinese variant. If the phone does turn out to be a rebranded OnePlus 13T, it could feature a 6.32-inch display. Leaks suggest that it could be a 1.5K 8T LTPO AMOLED panel with a refresh rate of 120 Hz and a peak brightness of 1600 nits. The device may also support LPDDR5x RAM and UFS 4.0 storage. Unlike the OnePlus 13, the 13s may feature an optical fingerprint sensor. Furthermore, the phone may have an IP65 water and dust resistance rating, meaning it may not be fully waterproof like its elder sibling. The phone is expected to come with OxygenOS 15 based on Android 15, much like other OnePlus phones launched this year. As for optics, the OnePlus 13s could come with a dual camera setup with a 50MP IMX906 primary setup with OIS and a 50MP 2x telephoto lens. While the official price of the OnePlus 13s will only be revealed during the company's launch event on 5 June, if leaks are to be believed the phone could be priced around the ₹ 55,000 price bracket in India. Believing that to be true, the OnePlus 13s would sit right at the middle of the OnePlus 13R and the OnePlus 13.

WWDC 2025: Apple could present major software updates with less focus on AI

At the event keynote, the US-based technology giant has confirmed to unveil platform updates across its ecosystem, including the next version of iOS. While artificial intelligence-powered features are expected to be a part of the announcements, it may not take centre stage this year. According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, 'the conference may be a letdown from an AI standpoint.' His report suggests Apple is not planning any major new features for its Apple Intelligence suite and will instead focus on significant updates to its operating systems across devices — iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, and more. Bloomberg had previously reported that Apple is aiming for a broader platform overhaul, emphasising consistency and streamlined navigation across devices. The company may also revamp the naming convention for its operating systems. Although platform updates are expected to headline the event, Apple Intelligence is still likely to see meaningful enhancements. Apple may introduce a new software development kit (SDK) and related frameworks that allow developers to integrate Apple Intelligence tools, like Writing Tools, more deeply into their apps. Additionally, Apple is reportedly exploring partnerships with third-party AI providers like Google and Anthropic to bring their models to Apple Intelligence, similar to the current integration with OpenAI's ChatGPT. Gurman's report also notes that Apple may be treating 2025 as a 'gap year' for AI, with more substantial announcements expected at WWDC 2026. Ongoing AI projects reportedly include a next-gen Siri based on a large language model (LLM), bringing enhanced on-screen awareness, personal context, and natural conversation capabilities. WWDC 2025: What to expect Platform updates Apple is reportedly preparing a significant redesign of its operating systems aimed at creating a more unified user experience across devices. This would help users transition more seamlessly between platforms such as iOS and macOS. Aesthetic updates could include translucent menus and panels inspired by visionOS, subtle motion effects, and shimmering elements that respond to device movement. Apple may also change the naming convention for its OS versions. For example, the next version of iOS might be called iOS 26 instead of iOS 19. Gaming app Apple is reportedly preparing to launch a new app focused on video games across its ecosystem including the iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple TV. According to Bloomberg, this app will allow users to launch games, view achievements, check leaderboards, and access curated gaming content. It will also integrate App Store titles, much like Microsoft's Xbox app on iOS. Apple is expected to introduce features that simplify switching from an iPhone to an Android device. One such feature, recently spotted in Android 16 beta code, is wireless eSIM transfer from iOS to Android. Currently, moving an eSIM requires carrier intervention. These updates are likely part of Apple's compliance with the European Union's Digital Markets Act (DMA), which mandates greater ecosystem openness. AI-powered battery optimisation Apple is reportedly developing an AI-based battery management feature for iOS. The system would analyse app usage, background activity, and charging patterns to intelligently adjust performance and extend battery life. A new lock screen indicator is expected to show estimated charging time. Revamped Health app The Health app is also in line for a major upgrade. According to Bloomberg, Apple plans to introduce an AI-powered health coaching system that provides personalised wellness recommendations, expert-led videos, and enhanced fitness tracking. For the first time, the Health app is also expected to include food tracking. However, the full rollout of this revamped experience may happen gradually, with iOS 19.4 likely delivering most of the new features.
