Oppn adamant on demand over electoral roll revision debate, Rajya Sabha adjourned till 2 pm
New Delhi: The Rajya Sabha was adjourned until 2 p.m. on Tuesday following vocal protests and demands for immediate discussion on several contentious issues, including Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in Bihar. Deputy Chairman Harivansh Narayan Singh announced the receipt of 24 notices under Rule 267, most of which pertained to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls undertaken in Bihar. The notices were submitted by members, including Ranjeet Ranjan, Shaktisinh Gohil, Syed Nasir Hussain, Rajani Ashokrao Patil, Akhilesh Prasad Singh, Rajiv Shukla and Randeep Singh Surjewala (all from Congress), Sandeep Kumar Pathak (AAP), Manoj Jha (RJD), and others. The Deputy Chairman also informed the House that under the same rules, additional notices were submitted by CPI(M) MP Rita Pratap Banerjee and Trinamool Congress MP Sagarika Ghosh, raising concerns over alleged discrimination against Bengali migrant workers in various states. A. Rahim (CPI-M), P. Santosh Kumar (CPI), and Josh K. Mani (Kerala Congress-M) sought a discussion on the "alleged and unjust" arrest of two nuns in Chhattisgarh. These included submissions from ministers Pankaj Choudhary, Anupriya Patel, Santanu Thakur, Harsh Malhotra, Ninubhai, and Bhupathi Raju Srinivas Verma. Shiv Sena-UBT MP Priyanka Chaturvedi tabled the 57th report of the Standing Committee on Communications in the 17th Lok Sabha, along with the seventh Action Taken Report concerning the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. BJP MP Ramji Bhai Harji Bhai Mokaria submitted reports from the Standing Committee on Consumer Affairs. BJP MP K. Lakshman laid reports from the Committee on Public Accounts, while party MP Iranna B Kadadi presented the 15th report related to the Ministry of Rural Development. Union Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Choudhary also placed an additional Standing Committee report before the House. An updated panel of Vice Chairpersons was announced. The House is scheduled to reconvene at 2 p.m., though tensions surrounding the Bihar electoral revision may continue to affect proceedings.

An intense spell of rainfall on Tuesday morning brought parts of Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) to a standstill, with several key roads submerged and traffic movement severely affected. Visuals from multiple locations, including Connaught Place, ITO, Pragati Maidan, Panchkuian Road, and Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg, showed long traffic snarls and commuters struggling to navigate waterlogged roads. Streets near Maharani Bagh, CV Raman Marg, and the Connaught Place outer circle were heavily waterlogged, with videos showing submerged vehicles and traffic crawling through the inundated roads. Areas such as Dhaula Kuan, Minto Bridge, Naraina, RK Puram, and Jangpura also reported mild disruptions. Major stretches, including Moti Bagh, Pul Prahladpur, Talkatora Road, Mukherjee Nagar, and Rohini, witnessed heavy water accumulation, affecting office-goers, students during peak hours. She also shared a clip showing the inundated street. Meanwhile, Congress leader Pramod Tiwari hit out at both the BJP and AAP governments, calling the situation a failure of governance. 'Everyone is facing difficulty. Students, workers, officers and even MPs are late for the Parliament. 90 per cent of Delhi is facing the issue of waterlogging. BJP blames AAP, AAP blames BJP, but it's the people of Delhi who are suffering,' he told news agency PTI. Red alert issued, more rain likely till August 3 The IMD has predicted continued rainfall in Delhi and NCR till August 3, with moderate to heavy showers accompanied by lightning and surface winds reaching speeds of 30–40 kmph. A red alert remains in place for eastern NCR, while a yellow alert has been issued for the remaining areas. Despite the heavy rainfall, Delhi's air quality remained in the satisfactory category, with an AQI reading of 87 at 9 AM, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).

Mamata Banerjee claims Bengali family assaulted by Delhi police, cops refute
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Sunday claimed that a Bengali-speaking migrant woman and her child were assaulted by Delhi Police personnel, sharing a video of the alleged incident on social media. However, Delhi Police on Monday rejected the allegation, calling the video "fabricated and baseless".In a post on social media platform X, Banerjee wrote: "Atrocious!! Terrible!! See how Delhi police brutally beat up a kid and his mother, members of a migrant family from Malda's Chanchal. See how even a child is not spared from the cruelty of violence in the regime of linguistic terror unleashed by the BJP in the country against the Bengalis! Based on that evidence, we found out that the whole story told by this lady is baseless," he told news agency said the woman in the video had alleged that "four policemen came to their house, took them away to a secluded place and demanded 25,000".However, during interrogation, she admitted that her relative, a political worker based in Malda district, had asked her to make the video, which was then shared with him and subsequently circulated to defame the Delhi Police, the officer said."During the interrogation, she mentioned that her relative, who lives in the Malda district of West Bengal, is a political worker, and on his request, she made this baseless video and shared it with him. Later, he circulated the video in the local media... After a thorough investigation and inquiry, we have concluded that the entire video is baseless and fabricated... Further investigation is still going on," Dhania leader Amit Malviya also criticised Banerjee's remarks, accusing her of spreading misinformation. Sharing the Delhi Police's version, Malviya wrote, "The enquiry reveals that the alleged incident of abduction, extortion, and police misconduct, as claimed in the social media post, is fabricated and baseless.
