In a post on his official X account, Al Buanain said that Qatar's bid to host the 2036 Olympic and Paralympic Games is the fruit of years of experience in organising major international tournaments, and the culmination of a sporting career full of successes. He added that this step confirms the readiness of Qatari cadres to lead the future of sports with confidence and distinction. Earlier on Tuesday, the QOC confirmed its participation in ongoing discussions with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to host the 2036 Olympic and Paralympic Games, as part of the new host city selection mechanism. The State of Qatar has a proven track record of success in hosting major international sporting events, having hosted 18 world championships over the past 20 years, particularly the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, considered the best edition in the history of the World Cup, the 2015 World Handball Championship, the 2019 World Athletics Championship, the 2024 World Aquatics Championships, and the 2025 World Table Tennis Championships. Qatar has also hosted major multi-sport tournaments, especially the 2006 Asian Games. If Qatar wins the bid to host the Games, it will be the first Olympic Games in the Middle East and North Africa. This will enable Qatar to present a unique Arab Olympic model based on diversity and openness, building on a sustainable legacy and the ability of sport to spread hope and peace, while enhancing regional representation and highlighting the potential of Arab youth.

Muller to continue career in US: Report

According to the report, Muller, who left Bayern Munich this summer after the Club World Cup, will not retire for now. The 2014 World Cup champion is set for a move to the MLS and has two options to choose from. One of them is Los Angeles FC, a partner of Bayern, according to Sky FC Cincinnati have said last month that they had offered Müller a deal. Muller is yet to officially confirm whether he will continue playing football. The veteran midfielder is currently on vacation and is expected to sign a contract with his new club in the next seven days, Sky said. An official announcement will then be made. Muller left Bayern after 25 years of service as his contract expired this summer and he wasn't given a new deal. His last game for his boyhood club was the 2-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the Club World Cup quarter-finals. (dpa)
