SAL achieves SAR153mln net profit in Q1 2025 and advances logistics growth strategy
SAL Saudi Logistics Services Company ('SAL' or 'the Company') (Ticker: TADAWUL 4263), Saudi Arabia's leading cargo handling player and logistics solutions provider, today announced its financial results for the three-month period ended 31 March 2025.
Highlights for Q1 2025
SAL delivered a strong performance with stable margins, during a year with lower cargo volumes, mainly driven by volume normalization compared to last year's exceptional peak, and changes in product mix.
The Handling division continues to play a pivotal role in revenue contribution, further supported by growing e-commerce demand.
In the Logistics division, SAL has proactively strengthened its business, including prudent credit risk provisioning and introducing more capacity in fulfillment operations. Further to this, we launched the SAL Logistics Zone in northern Riyadh, investing SAR 4 billion which aligns both our growth strategy for the Division and the goals of Vision 2030.
The Company affirmed its commitment to distributing dividends to shareholders, with the Board of Directors recommending a distribution of SAR 114.4 million for the first quarter.
Omar bin Talal Hariri, Chief Executive Officer of SAL, commented:
'The results of the first quarter of 2025 reflect the strength, resilience, and efficiency of our operations, as we navigate a gradual return to stabilized indicators. Although a decline in volumes compared to an exceptional period last year, we maintained our operational discipline and our leading position in cargo handling, which enabled the division to continue being a key contributor to profitability, supported by stable operations and our customers' trust in our services. We continue to work on enhancing performance in the logistics division, focusing on growth and increasing market share, with full confidence in the division's long-term potential. We look ahead with optimism to the next phase of our growth strategy through the SAL Logistics Zone project in Falcon City, Riyadh, with an investment of SAR 4 billion. This project represents a strategic transformation that will boost the division's growth, aligns with the Vision 2030 objectives, and positions SAL ideally to seize the tremendous opportunities offered by the growing logistics sector in the Kingdom. As we continue to strengthen our core capabilities, we remain committed to investing in sustainable growth while maintaining our focus on delivering long-term value to our customers and shareholders.'
Haydar Ucar, Chief Financial Officer of SAL, commented:
'SAL delivered resilient financial results in the first quarter of 2025, preserving profit margins, managing costs, and managing a healthy balance sheet, in spite of slightly lower volumes compared to last year's uncharacteristic spike. We maintained a healthy EBIT margin, preserved liquidity, and continued to generate positive cashflows. Our proactive financial management, including our investment strategy and working capital optimization, has reinforced the Company's resilience. As we look ahead, we are focused on driving operational efficiency, supporting strategic expansion initiatives, and maintaining a strong foundation for sustainable growth and generating more value for our shareholders.'
Revenue and Profitability
SAL delivered strong financial performance in Q1 2025, reflecting the resilience of its core business and disciplined cost management, in spite of a relative decline in shipment volumes compared to the same period last year.
Revenue for Q1 2025 totalled of SAR 384 million, compared to SAR 453 million in Q1 2024, representing a year-on-year decrease of 15%. The decline was due to a reduction of 6% in shipment volumes and seasonality differences impacting the Company's product mix. However, the rapid and continuing growth in e-commerce demand helped mitigate the impact.

Terra Drone Arabia participates as technical partner in NUPCO's Drone Initiative for Medical Supply During Hajj Season 1446H
Terra Drone Arabia & Nupco Team assemble during the delivery test deployment Riyadh, Saudi Arabia – Terra Drone Arabia, the local-arm of Terra Drone Corporation in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, a leading provider of drone solutions, expressed its pride in participating as the technical partner and drone operator in a pioneering initiative launched by the National Unified Procurement Company (NUPCO), in collaboration with the Saudi Ministry of Health. The initiative aims to enhance the efficiency of medical supply delivery during the Hajj season of 1446H using drone technologies. This initiative marks a proactive step in utilizing modern technologies to support the healthcare sector. It addresses the logistical challenges posed by the massive crowds in the holy sites, particularly in Mina and Arafat, where traditional ground transport can take more than 1.5 hours. In contrast, drones can reduce delivery times to under 6 minutes, directly improving emergency medical response times. As the technical operator of the initiative, Terra Drone Arabia deployed DJI M350 RTK drones equipped with specially designed transport boxes to ensure the safe handling of medical supplies by maintaining the required temperature conditions. The drone operations were managed using the Unmanned Traffic Management (UTM) system developed by Unifly, a group company of Terra Drone, ensuring both efficiency and safety. The UTM is used to enable real-time tracking of drone positions and resolve potential conflicts between drones and other airspace users, issuing alerts, and providing landing instructions. The company also ensured the highest standards of air safety were applied, leveraging integrated safety systems compliant with operational requirements in densely populated areas. Operations were conducted under the supervision of the Ministry of Health and coordinated with several regulatory bodies, including the Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Defense, and the General Authority of Civil Aviation, helping to establish a safe and organized operational environment. Terra Drone Arabia reaffirmed its belief in the importance of leveraging modern technologies for community service and its satisfaction in contributing to such ambitious national initiatives. The company emphasized that its partnership with NUPCO in this project represents a true model of collaboration and integration between sectors to deliver effective and innovative solutions. The success of this project is expected to pave the way for broader adoption of drone technologies in the healthcare logistics sector within the Kingdom and open new opportunities for applying this technology across various vital sectors, in line with the objectives of Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 and digital transformation goals. About Terra Drone Arabia: Terra Drone Arabia aims to be the premier provider of drone and geospatial solutions in the Middle East and Africa. With a mission to empower businesses through advanced technologies, Terra Drone Arabia offers a wide range of services, including land surveying, bathymetry, and data processing, among others. As part of Terra Drone Corporation, a globally recognized drone company, Terra Drone Arabia leverages its international presence and expertise to deliver comprehensive solutions across industries.

Fitch expects M&A activity to accelerate in Saudi insurance sector
RIYADH — Fitch Ratings expects the pace of mergers in the Saudi insurance sector to accelerate over the next two years. Fitch based its forecast on new regulatory capital requirements and weak profitability in underwriting premiums amid intense price competition. Fitch said that some smaller insurers may struggle to meet these requirements or maintain profitability, and may merge with or be acquired by larger insurers as a result. The insurance market in Saudi Arabia is dominated by a few large companies, such as Tawuniya and Bupa Arabia, with their combined market share reaching 52% in 2024. © Copyright 2022 The Saudi Gazette. DHL Group to invest more than EUR500mln in fast-growing markets in the Middle East
Dubai, UAE / Bonn, Germany – DHL Group ('DHL'), the world's leading logistics provider, has announced plans to invest more than EUR 500 million in the Middle East, with a strategic focus on the rapidly expanding Gulf markets of Saudi Arabia (KSA) and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). This investment, set to take place between 2024 and 2030, underscores DHL's commitment to the region and its importance for the future of global trade. DHL Group's Strategy 2030, launched in 2024, prioritizes growth regions and geographic tailwinds generated by shifts in global trade. The investment spans all four DHL divisions – DHL Express, DHL Global Forwarding, DHL Supply Chain, and DHL eCommerce – and will significantly strengthen the region's logistics backbone. By enhancing infrastructure, expanding networks and capacity, and elevating service capabilities, DHL aims to empower businesses operating across and with the Middle East to capitalize on growth opportunities from trade, ensuring support and resilience for customers as they navigate evolving market demands. The company's divisions provide a broad portfolio of logistics and transportation services to customers in the Middle East, including express parcel delivery, air, ocean and overland freight, warehousing, fulfilment and distribution, customs brokerage and specialized operations for sectors such as life sciences, healthcare, e-commerce and battery logistics. 'The region of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) is rapidly emerging as a global logistics and innovation hub,' said John Pearson, CEO of DHL Express. 'Our investment reflects the region's increasing strategic importance in connecting Asia, Europe, and Africa, and our commitment to supporting its transformation into a catalyst for regional and global trade. DHL Express is seeing dynamic growth and export potential in the region's e-commerce sector, for example, which is providing opportunities for entrepreneurs and smaller businesses to expand their offering to global markets.' Supporting FDI, exports and building supply chain resilience The Middle East is emerging as a vital trade hub, facilitating commerce between Asia, Europe, and the US while serving as a gateway to Africa. The region is witnessing growth not only due to attracting investments from multinationals expanding their operations but also because Gulf- and Middle East-based businesses are growing and increasing their exports. DHL's services, the local and global expertise of its team, and the flexibility offered by the company's extensive transportation and warehousing network and digital platforms, automation and technologies help businesses build supply chain resilience at a time of heightened volatility and uncertainty in global trade. Hendrik Venter, CEO of DHL Supply Chain, Europe, Middle East & Africa, added, 'DHL Supply Chain has actively expanded in Saudi Arabia and UAE in recent years, recognizing the positive economic development, the increasing maturity and sophistication of supply chain operations in the region and the growing demand for specialized, outsourced logistics support. With a strong focus on the energy sector, life sciences, healthcare, and technology, we are poised to take advantage of our contract logistics expertise to meet the unique needs of our customers and drive innovation in these critical areas.' Amadou Diallo, CEO of DHL Global Forwarding, Middle East & Africa, remarked, 'This investment underscores our confidence in the Middle East's economic trajectory and our continued commitment to be ahead of the curve in digital capabilities and sustainable transportation for our customers. We also consistently aim to find entrepreneurial freight forwarding solutions that build supply chain resilience, keep their goods flowing and help them to uncover growth opportunities in a world that is characterized by uncertainty and volatility. By expanding our operations, we will be even better positioned to support our clients in navigating the complexities of international trade and logistics.' DHL Group recognizes the growing opportunities in the energy sector, encompassing traditional oil and gas as well as renewables and electrification. The company also sees potential in the life sciences and healthcare markets, alongside the burgeoning e-commerce landscape. For example, The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) is experiencing a strong inbound market for B2C, especially with high-end goods, driven by ongoing tourism initiatives and events. Targeted investments in quality, capacity and efficiency The investments will focus on the following areas across DHL's business units: - DHL Express: Investments will be made in hub and gateway facilities, as well as enhancing aviation capacity to improve service efficiency and delivery speed. - DHL Global Forwarding: The company will expand its overall presence in the region, invest in its fleet – including electric trucks – and pursue joint venture initiatives such as the recent joint venture with Etihad Rail to enhance connectivity and logistics capabilities. - DHL Supply Chain: There will be an expansion of the contract logistics offering in both the UAE and KSA, which includes increasing warehousing capacity, upgrading equipment, and integrating advanced technology to optimize operations. - DHL eCommerce: The acquisition of the delivery provider AJEX in Saudi Arabia will enhance DHL's e-commerce capabilities, facilitating better last-mile delivery services in a rapidly growing market. DHL is also committed to sustainability, investing in alternative fuel, and electric delivery vehicles, aviation fuels in air freight and biofuels for road and ocean freight, as well as solar energy and clean power for facilities. This commitment ensures that supply chains become more sustainable, and customers achieve their net zero ambitions. This is aligned with the agenda of governments in the region to lead on environmental sustainability. DHL aims to implement best practices in logistics and innovation, strengthening its longstanding position as a leader and investor in the talent and economic potential of the Middle East. DHL Group DHL Group is the world's leading logistic company. The Group connects people and markets and is an enabler of global trade. It aspires to be the first choice for customers, employees, investors and green logistics worldwide. To this end, DHL Group is focusing on accelerating sustainable growth in its profitable core logistics businesses and Group growth initiatives.
