1.6 million active subscribers at SSC, including 1.375 million Jordanians
AMMAN — The Social Security Corporation (SSC) on Wednesday announced that the number of active subscribers under its umbrella has reached 1.6 million, including 1.375 million Jordanians and 225,000 non-Jordanians.
In a statement to mark International Workers' Day, the SSC stressed the importance of ensuring that all workers in Jordan, regardless of gender or nationality, are protected under social security and provided with a safe work environment, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
The corporation described social security as a 'crucial' pillar of the national protection system, offering income security to workers and their families upon retirement, disability, death, temporary unemployment, or maternity, in addition to protection from work-related injuries.
The SSC said that the cumulative number of retirees has reached some 368,000, including 250,000 active pensioners, among them 58,751 women. The number of eligible dependents currently receiving pension benefits stands at 166,161.
The SSC stressed the legal obligation for all employers to enrol their workers in the social security system for the entire duration of their employment and based on their actual wages, regardless of workforce size, to ensure that no worker exits the labour market without access to a retirement pension.
The corporation also noted that over 117,000 maternity benefit claims have been processed for insured women in the private sector, benefiting more than 81,000 female subscribers.
The SSC has expanded protections for working women through its "Reaya" (Care) programme, which supports childcare either at home or through nurseries.
A total of 25,575 women have benefited from the programme, including 22,657 who received home care support and 2,918 who used nursery services.

The SSC explained that Jordanians can submit a voluntary subscription request through their personal account on the Corporation's official website, its mobile application, or the Sanad government app, provided they are at least 16 years old. First-time subscribers must not exceed the age of 55 for women or 60 for men. However, Jordanians over these age limits may still subscribe if they have previous social security contributions and their entitlements have not yet been settled. Over 2,700 new voluntary subscribers join SSC in H1 2025
Ammon News - The Social Security Corporation (SSC) reported that 2,783 people subscribed voluntarily for the first time during the first half of this year, bringing the total number of active voluntary subscribers to 107,279 by the end of the same period. In a response to inquiries by the Jordan News Agency (Petra), the SSC explained that voluntary subscription is an important mechanism for individuals who are not compulsorily covered to complete their insurance rights. The program is available under specific conditions, including that the applicant must be Jordanian, aged between 16 and 60 for men or 55 for women when applying for the first time, not compulsorily insured through any job, and must not have received any social security benefits such as old-age pension, early retirement, lump-sum compensation, or total or partial disability benefits. The SSC noted that this option targets broad segments of society, especially expatriate Jordanians, housewives, and insured individuals who have left their jobs and need to complete the required contributions to qualify for a future retirement pension. Voluntary subscribers are covered under old-age, disability, and death insurance, and the same provisions apply to them as to compulsory subscribers. They must pay a monthly contribution of 17.5% of their declared insured wage, which must not be less than JD 290. The SSC added that applications can be submitted electronically via its official website, mobile application, or the government's Sanad app, with no documents required. Payments can be made through eFAWATEERcom, exchange offices, or banks.
