Darwin Nunez's Liverpool exit closing in as big-spending club name their transfer fee
Darwin Nunez is now in talks with Al-Hilal as he edges closer to leaving Liverpool. The clubs have yet to come to an agreement on a transfer fee but it is now expected to move quickly once that is finalised and could come as early as today should the Uruguay striker agree to move to the Middle East.
Simeone Inzaghi's Al-Hilal and AC Milan are both keen on him but it is the Saudi club which is making moves as the Serie A outfit stands still.
Al-Hilal are currently at a training camp in Germany and willing to pay around £50million. Napoli have been previously interested but were put off by the asking price. Liverpool remain tight-lipped on the matter and there is still a chance he is part of Sunday's squad for the Community Shield.
Al-Nassr tried to sign Nunez at the end of the January window but Liverpool would not sell during the season as they chased glory in the Premier League and Champions League.
Liverpool agreed a deal worth £85m on Nunez in the summer of 2022. It was an initial £65m and the player has not triggered all of the add-ons from the deal with Benfica.
Jurgen Klopp wanted to sign Nunez in 2022 after he impressed against the club for the Portuguese side in the Champions League and they beat Manchester United to his signature.
But he has failed to be a clinical finisher in the Premier League and Arne Slot could not unlock his potential with just seven goals last season. Harvey Elliott, who is being chased by RB Leipzig, and Federico Chiesa are also expected to leave along with Nunez this summer.
The Reds have already sold Jarell Quansah, Caiomhin Kelleher, Tyler Morton, Luis Diaz and Nat Phillips while they got £8m to allow Trent Alexander-Arnold join Real Madrid a month before his contract expired to raise over £150m.
Slot continues to eye up a move for Newcastle's Alexander Isak with the Swede not training with the first-team at the Magpies. Any move will leave Liverpool needing to break the British-transfer record for the second time in a single transfer window.

Manchester City have a number of injury concerns heading into the first Premier League match of the season with Phil Foden's return uncertain before the clash with Wolves Just days remain until the Premier League gets back underway and Pep Guardiola has already been left to unpleasantly sweat over he can select in his starting lineup. In a campaign that sees the club looking to put a disappointing 2024/25 season behind them, Manchester City have not got off to a smooth start. The club took on Palermo in their final friendly before facing Wolves next week but Guardiola was forced to leave four players at home. Phil Foden joined Rodri, Josko Gvardiol and Claudio Echeverri on the no-fly list, while Mateo Kovacic made the trip but remains injured. Foden's return is not guaranteed for the opening game of the season, though the ankle issue does not appear serious. "He has a problem in his ankle and that's why we didn't take a risk," Guardiola said. "I don't know [if he will play against Wolves]. It's just a knock - it was painful but he will be ready when he is ready." But that is the least of the Catalan coach's problems with City already looking stretched in the centre of midfield. Just a day after confirming that Spanish lynchpin Rodri would miss the first month of the season, Guardiola revealed that Kovacic was set to face another two months out after being expected to return in time for the kick-off against Wolves. The Croatian's Achilles issue could keep him out until October, leaving Guardiola short of options in the centre of the field after Rodri's setback. Nico Gonzalez, who has previously been labelled as 'mini-Rodri', would be the logical stand-in but played just once at the Club World Cup. "We have three,' Guardiola said of the position. "Kova is injured until September or October, Rodri is coming back after six months and [we have] Nico. The others can play there but are more attacking, they like to be in the [opposition's] box. Gundo can play there and Tijji can play there but when everybody is fit their position is more up front.' 'Rodri's getting better but he had a big injury in the last game against Al-Hilal and for the last five or six weeks," Guardiola explained of Rodri's timeline to a return. 'He's training right now and in the last two or three days is better. Hopefully maybe the international break is when he will be really, really fit. "Hopefully, in the games (prior to that) he can play some minutes, but the important thing is to not have pain because we don't want him to come back and get injured. "We will try desperately to avoid that but he's been training [in] the last two or three days with us and that's good." Fans CUT SHORT minute's silence in tribute to late Liverpool star Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva at Wembley
There were disappointing scenes as a small group of fans failed to observe the minute's silence in memory of Diogo Jota ahead of Sunday's Community Shield final. On July 3, Jota and his brother, Andre Silva, died when their car crashed in the early hours in northern Spain. The 28-year-old forward had recently married his childhood sweetheart at a ceremony in his native Portugal following a campaign culminating in trophy-winning successes for both club and country. Premier League champions Liverpool faced FA Cup winners Crystal Palace in the traditional season curtain-raiser at Wembley on Sunday afternoon and there was no doubt that the occasion would be used to pay tribute to Jota.. The fixture is usually a joyous occasion for the two teams taking part but there was no doubt that there was a cloud of sadness hanging over the Home of Football ahead of kick-off. Reds legend Ian Rush and Palace chairman Steve Parish were seen laying wreaths on the side of the pitch in memory of the two brothers. The Liverpool half of the stadium was awashof banners and flags dedicated to Jota while TNT Sports cameras even spotted a Palace fan with his name on his shirt. Both sets of players made their way onto the pitch a minute's silence followed before the game got underway. And it quickly became clear that some inside the ground were not observing it properly. The muttering of noise was then met with boos from the Liverpool fans before they then turned to applause, the minute's silence cut short. The tributes followed those which took place at Anfield on Monday as Liverpool played their first matches at their home ground since the tragic event. Anfield was charged with emotion as Liverpool fans and club legends paid their respects to Jota and his brother ahead of two matches against Athletic Bilbao. Reds legend Phil Thompson and Bilbao president Jon Uriarte laid wreaths on the pitch, in front of the Kop. The billboard around the pitch read, 'Rest in peace Diogo Jota and Andre Silva, You'll Never Walk Alone', while supporters chanted Jota's name when Thompson and Uriate walked onto the field. The chorus began again at the start of the match. The crowd also held up flags and banners to remember Jota and stood to applaud - alongside both teams - in the 20th minute, a nod to the forward's shirt number. The front cover of the matchday programme was adorned with photos of Jota celebrating goals and the words, 'Diogo Jota, forever our number 20'. It contained a number of emotional tributes, including an obituary titled 'Forever our No 20'. The siblings were also honoured before pre-season matches against Preston North End, AC Milan and Yokohama FM. After the incident Liverpool announced that Jota's No 20 would be immediately retired for all levels following consultation with his widow and his family. There is also a 'Forever 20' emblem printed on Liverpool's new kits, which made its first appearance against Bilbao. It will remain in place all season. Plans are underway for a permanent memorial scultpure at Anfield while floral wreaths will be laid before the Reds' Premier League opener against Bournemouth on August 15. After joining from Wolves in 2020, Jota scored 65 goals in 182 appearances for the club, helping them to win the Premier League, FA Cup and Carabao Cup.

Diogo Jota tribute 'spoiled' leaving Liverpool v Crystal Palace commentators app
The TNT Sports commentary team were left appalled after a tribute to Diogo Jota at Wembley was 'spoiled' by a small section of fans. The Liverpool and Crystal Palace teams lined up in the centre circle for a minute's silence before the Community Shield kicked off. But the referee called a halt to the tribute after just ten seconds after a small section of supporters interrupted the silence. Members of both teams could be seen looking around the stadium, surprised that the minute's silence was being interrupted. More Trending Reporters in the ground said the noise initially came from the Crystal Palace end, with Liverpool fans then responding with vocal boos.
