Coach Sektioui: Morocco Must Win Opener to Boost Confidence at CHAN 2024

Morocco World02-08-2025
Rabat – Morocco's local team coach, Tarik Sektioui, spoke to the media today ahead of their opening CHAN 2024 game, saying it is crucial to secure three points against Angola.
He said a strong start would lift the players' morale and increase their chances of advancing far in the competition.
The team will face Angola in their first match of the African Nations Championship (CHAN 2024). The game will take place on Sunday in Nairobi, Kenya, as part of the group stage.
'We are well aware of the responsibility on our shoulders, and we know that we will play against a strong team, a favorite to win this edition of CHAN, with many advantages, and a coach with great experience,' Sektioui noted.
'It is smart and professional to respect all opponents,' the coach added.
The Moroccan team has two main goals in this competition: to qualify for the second round by winning the first match, and to compete for the title and honor Moroccan football, he said.
CHAN 2024 will be held in Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania, with Morocco playing its matches in Nairobi's Nyayo Stadium and Moi International Sports Center.
After the opening game against Angola at Nyayo Stadium, Morocco will face Kenya on August 10 at the Moi Sports Center in Kasarani. The team will then return to Nyayo Stadium to play Zambia and the Democratic Republic of Congo on August 14 and 17, respectively.
Morocco is aiming to win the CHAN title for the third time in its history. The team previously won the championship twice in a row, in 2018 at home under coach Jamal Salami, and in 2020 in Cameroon with coach Hussein Ammouta. Tags: CHAN 2024MoroccosektiouiTarik Sektioui

CHAN 2024: Tanzania vs Madagascar – How to Watch & Score Prediction

Tanzania will look to seal their place in the quarter-finals of the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) when they face Madagascar in Group B on Thursday in Dar es Salaam. Kick-off is at 6:00 PM Morocco time (GMT+1), and fans can catch the action live on beIN Connect FRANCE, beIN Connect MENA HD, beIN Connect USA, beIN Sports Australia 2 HD, beIN Sports France 6 HD max, beIN Sports MENA 6 HD, SuperSport MáXimo 1 HD, SuperSport MáXimo 360, and SuperSport Variety 4 HD. The Taifa Stars top the group with six points from two matches after a 1-0 win over Mauritania on Wednesday, secured by Shomari Kapombe's 89th-minute goal. They had opened their campaign with a 2-0 victory against Burkina Faso. Madagascar sit third with one point, behind Burkina Faso on goal difference, and must win to keep their qualification hopes alive. Their task is complicated by the suspension of captain Arohasina Andriamirado, known as Dax, who was sent off in the 40th minute of their draw with Mauritania. Head coach Rôrô's Tanzania side enter the match with confidence, backed by home support and a strong recent record. They also hold a higher FIFA ranking and have shown defensive resilience, conceding no goals in the tournament so far. Madagascar, led by Toky, will aim to draw inspiration from their 1-0 win over Tanzania at the COSAFA Cup in June 2024. However, they have yet to record a victory in this CHAN campaign and face an opponent in strong form. Only the top two sides in each group progress to the knockout stage, making Thursday's match decisive. A win for Tanzania would confirm their progression, while defeat would leave Madagascar's qualification dependent on other results. Score Prediction: Tanzania have maximum points from two matches, with a solid defence and the momentum of back-to-back wins. Playing at home adds to their advantage. Madagascar, missing suspended captain Dax, will find it difficult to break through, and their lack of a win so far suggests Tanzania should control the match and take another three points. Let's say Tanzania 2-0 Madagascar. Tags: CHAN 2024MadagascarTanzania

Errachidy Misses Weight, PFL Africa Debut Downgraded

Abderrahim Errachidy will make his Professional Fighters League Africa debut in Johannesburg on Saturday, but not as part of the featherweight tournament. The Moroccan was originally scheduled to face South Africa's Elbert Steyn in a first-round bout, but both men failed to make the 145lb limit at Friday's official weigh-in. They each registered 148lbs, with the contest now reclassified as a non-tournament catchweight showcase. It means Errachidy's first appearance under the PFL banner will be about making an impression rather than chasing points in the league's inaugural African season. Abderrahim Errachidy will make his Professional Fighters League Africa debut in Johannesburg in a catchweight showcase after both he and South Africa's Elbert Steyn failed to make the featherweight limit. PFL Africa, launched this year, mirrors the global promotion's trademark format: a win-and-advance tournament in which fighters earn points for victories and stoppages, with the eventual champions crowned after the play-offs. The Johannesburg event marks the continuation of the First Round following the season's opening in Cape Town last month. The Big Top Arena at Carnival City will also stage the featherweight main event between Nigeria's Patrick 'Starboi' Ocheme (144.6lbs) and Guinea's Mohamed 'Lamo Mohamed' Camara (145.6lbs), while the welterweight co-main features Angola's Shido Boris 'Machine' Esperanca (170.6lbs) against Ibrahima 'Freezer' Mané (170.6lbs) of Gambia. Elsewhere on the card, British Boloyoang (170lbs) meets Octave Ayinda (169.8lbs), Sanon Sadeck (170.2lbs) faces Yabna N'tchala (168.4lbs) and Osvaldo Benedito (168lbs) takes on Emilios Dassi (169.6lbs) in further welterweight contests. Featherweight bouts pit Wasi Adeshina (145.8lbs) against Jean Jacques Lubaya (144.6lbs) and Wilker Nsamo (144.8lbs) against Dwight Joseph (145.2lbs). Abdoul Razac Sankara (146lbs) meets Shadrack Yemba (146lbs) in a tournament bout that replaces the withdrawn Errachidy–Steyn fixture, while Desmond Tamungang (168.2lbs) faces Kunle Lawal (170.4lbs) in a welterweight alternate contest.
