Being a crucial junction where jaywalking is rampant, the skywalk will not only facilitate easier crossing of Vishwakarma Road outside the Electronic City Metro station, but it will also benefit thousands of commuters who walk through to board buses and other public transport services to Meerut, Hapur, Bulandshahr, and other destinations.
A hub of IT firms and educational institutions, Sector 62 is a key area that sees massive traffic every day.
The area also includes the Blue Line's Electronic City metro station, making it a major transit point for professionals, students, and other commuters.
Surendra Kumar Gupta, president of the federation of Sector 62 RWAs, said that commuters heading to or from Sectors 59, 61, 62, 63, 51, 71, etc., regularly use this route. "People coming from Meerut exit here to reach Noida, while many also travel from here to Delhi. The junction becomes chaotic during morning and evening peak hours, with many pedestrians forced to jaywalk, risking their lives due to the lack of a convenient crossing," he said.
The area is further congested by encroachments from e-rickshaws and autos ferrying passengers to various sectors in Noida and Ghaziabad. Footpaths remain largely unusable due to the presence of street vendors and hawkers, leaving little space for pedestrians.
Meanwhile, SP Singh, general manager at Noida Authority, acknowledged the challenges and said that while a foot overbridge (FOB) already exists about 200 metres away from the crossing, many people avoid using it due to the distance.

"We plan to build a 400-metre-long circular skywalk with a width of 4 metres, connecting all four directions at the crossing. It will be equipped with a travelator and will also be linked to the existing FOB to facilitate people crossing the DME," he said.
The skywalk will be built above the ground to mirror the roundabout. It will be around 400 m long and covered with an iron roof so that people can use it comfortably even during rain or heat.
The estimated cost of the project is Rs 40 crore, and the authority aims to complete it within a year. The design and drawings have been submitted to IIT Delhi for technical vetting. "We expect to receive IIT's clearance soon. Any suggestions for design modifications will be incorporated, following which we will begin the tendering process and move to construction," Singh added.

Although six consultants were empanelled, it was noted that financial bids must be called separately for each project. This requirement was ignored and an arbitrary decision was taken to appoint consultants district-wise or region-wise, they said, claiming that this effectively meant that a single consultant was allowed to handle all projects.

MCD aims to inaugurate multilevel shuttle car parking facility at greater kailash this month
New Delhi: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi plans to inaugurate its multilevel shuttle car parking facility at M Block Market in Greater Kailash I by the month-end. "These trees, located along the periphery of the parking area, need to be removed to create a 6-metre space for the movement of emergency vehicles, in accordance with building norms," said an MCD official. "After clearing the trees, the fire services no-objection will be sought." The facility, constructed at a cost of Rs 63.7 crore, consists of a shuttle or robo parker style parking which involves using automated systems and robots to park and retrieve vehicles. It is space-efficient and convenient. The facility, equipped with four lifts, will be fully automatic with no manual intervention. Built on a 2,240 sqm plot, the parking has the ground floor and eight floors above it, offering space to park 399 cars. While the construction began three years ago, MCD sought permission to fell the trees over a year ago. The civic body received anticipatory approval from the fire service and continued the work. "The footfall at the market is heavy most of the time. It is common to see many vehicles parked on the roadsides, leading to inconvenience to others," said a local resident. "To resolve the problem, construction of the parking lot was taken up on a portion of the surface parking site and work began in March 2022 with an 18-month deadline but it was breached in Sept 2023. " Since the project is taking time to finish, the shop owners have requested opening up space for a few cars to park. The municipal corporation pointed out that stack and puzzle parking lots can accommodate a larger number of vehicles within a compact space compared with other parking types. Moreover, they can be assembled more quickly and developed at a lower cost than conventional parking facilities. In such projects, the concessionaire responsible for constructing the parking lot can operate it for a minimum of one year.
