Dominic Smith hits go-ahead double in 9th as Giants rally for 4-2 win over Pirates
Jung Hoo Lee hit a one-out double down the right-field line off Dennis Santana (3-4). Smith, pinch hitting for Christian Koss, brought Lee in with another double to right to make it 3-2 and Patrick Bailey extended the lead with an RBI single.
Giants reliever Ryan Walker (4-4) struck out the side in the eighth, including Oneil Cruz with two on and two outs. Randy Rodríguez pitched a perfect ninth for his third save.
In the top half, Isaac Mattson gave up a leadoff single to Bailey, a one-out single to Rafael Devers and another single to Willy Adames before departing with the bases loaded. Matt Chapman tied it with a sacrifice fly.
Nick Gonzales put the Pirates ahead with a two-out single to left in the first. Jerar Encarnacion tied it in the fifth with a 442-foot drive to left off a fastball from Andrew Heaney, his second home run of the season after hitting one in an 8-1 win Tuesday.
Isiah Kiner-Falefa scored on Tommy Pham's sacrifice in the fifth, giving the Pirates back the lead.
Heaney, who was tagged for one run and two hits in 4 2/3 innings, had retired 12 straight batters since letting the first two reach. Heliot Ramos started the first inning with a first-pitch single, extending his on-base streak to a career-high 20 games, before Devers was hit by a pitch.
Robbie Ray struck out eight in six innings for San Francisco, giving up two runs and six hits.

Brad Payne, a chaplain to several PGA Tour players as president of the College Golf Fellowship, is a close friend of the world's No. 1 player and has been in this spot before. Scheffler turned to him as a fill-in caddie for the third round of the 2024 PGA Championship at Valhalla because Scott's daughter was graduating. That turned out to be the day after Scheffler was arrested for not following police instructions during a traffic fatality investigation. Scheffler fell out of contention with a 73 that day, which he later attributed to adrenaline wearing him from one of the more bizarre episodes at a major — the Masters champion was arrested, booked into jail, released and made it back to Valhalla in time for his tee time and then shot 66. Dallas Cowboys star CeeDee Lamb sat out the team's first preseason game of 2025 against the Los Angeles Rams and still, somehow, managed to find some action. Lamb was on the sideline when he started to celebrate wide receiver Jonathan Mingo blowing past a few Rams defensive backs to get wide open on a play in the second quarter. However, Lamb turned his back and a sideline official ran into him. Neither the official nor Lamb expected what happened. Both men were helped up and neither appeared injured. "It's sideline interference. CeeDee Lamb was standing in the restricted white border area, which is our area to officiate the game. The official on the play was focused solely on doing his job, and he ran into CeeDee Lamb, who was standing in that restricted area," referee Alex Moore told a pool reporter, via CBS Sports. "That's what happened. And with that contact, it's an automatic foul." The Cowboys were penalized for Lamb's action. Los Angeles ended up winning the game, 31-21. Stetson Bennett IV had 188 passing yards and two touchdown passes. Blake Corum ran for two more touchdowns. Cowboys quarterback Joe Milton III had 143 passing yards and a touchdown pass. Will Grier was 2-of-3 passing and had a rushing touchdown. Lamb may not see too much time, if at all, in preseason action. He's the team's No. 1 receiver. He was named to the Pro Bowl for the fourth time in 2024. He had 101 catches for 1,194 yards and six touchdown catches.
