Pirates responds to report linking Mofokeng with move to PSV
Orlando Pirates have dismissed reports linking forward Relebohile Mofokeng with a move to Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven.
This comes after reports emerged on Wednesday suggesting that the Dutch giants had tabled R120-million offer for the 20-year-old.

However, Pirates have since issued a statement condemning the report as 'false, irresponsible and damaging.'
'Orlando Pirates Football Club has taken note of the article published by SoccerLaduma.com on Tuesday, 16 July 2025, titled: R120m For Mofokeng? How PSV's Linked To Pirates Sensation,' read the club statement.
'We wish to place it on record that no such offer has been received by the Club. The claims made in the article are not only false but also irresponsible and damaging. As a publication with a long-standing history in South African football, Soccer Laduma is expected to uphold the highest standards of journalism rooted in fact, accuracy, and responsibility. Unfortunately, in this instance, they have chosen sensationalism over truth.
'This type of reporting is not only misleading to the public but also serves as an unnecessary distraction aimed at unsettling both the player and the Club at a critical juncture in our preparations for the upcoming season.
OPINION: Why was Rayners snubbed for top PSL Awards?
'Orlando Pirates remains committed to the well-being of our players and will continue to act in their best interests. We call upon all media outlets to refrain from publishing unverified reports that seek to create instability for the sake of clicks.'

Discus thrower Mila Ueckermann still amazed at being 'the African champ at my very first African games'
Palesa Manaleng 31 July 2025 | 14:22 Mila Ueckermann Athletics South Africa Mila Ueckermann was crowned African champion at the CAA U18 & U20 Championships campaign in Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State, Nigeria. Picture: Supplied. JOHANNESBURG - Mila Ueckermann was crowned African champion at the CAA U18 & U20 Championships campaign in Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State, Nigeria. The 17-year-old brought home a gold medal in discus with a throw of 52.99m, dominating her competitors, with silver medallist Tunisia's Katr Jaoued throwing 48.28 and the bronze medallist, Namibia's Marika Weitz, throwing 44.84. "Felt familiar even though it was my first time. Super nervous at the start, but when I knew I had it in the bag, I realised I had a good shot at winning this competition, and I did. I walked into the competition with a good mindset and with the goal to break my PB. So, I was pretty chuffed and proud to be able to bring gold home for South Africa and to represent my country. I was filled with emotions after my big win, but it finally sank in the night after my competition when I finally realised I was the African champ at my very first African games," said Ueckermann. The Hoërskool Stellenbosch learner said the championships that took place between 16-20 July in Abeokuta, Nigeria, were an opportunity for the best athletes from each country to compete for the chance to be crowned as best on the continent. "I threw on the 17th of July and received a gold medal for Women's U18 discus throw with a distance of 52.99, almost 53m. I broke my previous PB with a distance of over 2 meters. I knew then that whatever happened next, we came into the competition to break my PB, and I accomplished it, and that alone made me excited." She told Eyewitness News that her father's passion for throwing sports was what grabbed her interest at a young age, and she wanted to follow in his footsteps. "So my dad was very passionate about discus throw and shot put. Seeing as he had gotten his provincial colours himself for discus throw when he was in high school, it inspired me to take part in shot put at the age of 10 years old in 2018. "I started off as a shot putter and went to Junior South African champs in the same year I started doing shot put, and placed 2nd in the 2018 SA junior school champs. When the time came, I was old enough to pursue discus throw in 2019, and my dad was my full-time coach." The African champion said that juggling school and sports wasn't easy, as she tries to stick to time slots for everything she needs to do daily to better herself as an athlete and to keep her marks up at school. "I want to strive to get my technique better, and with better technique comes better distances. I also want to focus on my academics because school comes first and my end-of-year marks mean a lot toward my future."

MTN8 Roll of Honour: Every name on the trophy
The MTN8 – as we know the cup competition today – was first contested back in 1972. It features the top eight finishers from the previous season's DStv Premiership with the champions facing the eighth-placed team, the runners-up taking on the seventh-placed side – and so on. While the quarter-finals are one-off matches, the semi-finals are played over two legs. The final will be a one-off match. The overall winner will walk away a cool R10 million richer with the other seven competing sides all earning R1 million each. Cellular giants MTN have sponsored the event since 2008. Prior to that (from 1972 to 2002) it was known as BP Top Eight Cup (sponsored by BP) and the SAA Super Eight Cup from 2003 to 2007 (sponsored by South African Airways). This year's tournament is the 51st edition. So who has tasted the most success the previous 50 times the competition was held? No surprise to learn that Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs lead the way with 15 titles, followed by their bitter rivals Orlando Pirates with 13. The Buccaneers have won three-straight MTN8 titles and will be looking to make that four on the trot this season. Kaizer Chiefs – 15 Orlando Pirates – 13 Mamelodi Sundowns – 4 Moroka Swallows – 3 Bidvest Wits – 3 SuperSport United – 3 Arcadia Shepherds – 1 Santos – 1 Jomo Cosmos – 1 Witbank Black Aces – 1 Bloemfontein Celtic – 1 Golden Arrows – 1 Platinum Stars – 1 Ajax Cape Town – 1 City of Cape Town – 1 Let us know by leaving a comment below, or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 021 1 Subscribe to The South African website's newsletters and follow us on WhatsApp, Facebook, X and Bluesky for the latest news.
