The Chase's Shaun Wallace joins new ITV show after surprise announcement
Shaun Wallace, known to millions as The Dark Destroyer, has stunned fans by revealing he's set to appear in a brand new ITV series away from his usual role on The Chase.
The barrister, who has been part of the popular quiz show since his debut on it in 2009, shared the news with his 89,800 followers on X on Monday. The 65-year-old received a wave of supportive messages after lifting the lid on his upcoming TV project.
Shaun announced that he will be starring in The Great Escapers, which is a new ITV series that will see celebrities from programmes such as Coronation Street, I'm A Celebrity, The Chase, and Loose Women head off on holiday together. The stars will compete to organise the ultimate day out while soaking up the sun together.
Fellow Chasers Mark Labbett, known as The Beast, and Jenny 'The Vixen' Ryan have also been confirmed as part of the cast for the new show. Although the trio still appear to be committed to The Chase, it is not unusual for them to take on additional TV projects.
Shaun shared his excitement from the set in Greece, writing: "Very excited to be filming in Rhodes for a new show called 'The Great Escapers' with Mark @MarkLabbett and Jenny @jenlion. Looking forward to having a lot of fun with those two. Doing a spot of fitness in the sunshine, before we get going."
He also posted a video for fans that revealed more about his location. In it he explained: "Well here I am back in one of my favourite islands in the world.
"The island of Rhodes in the Dodecanese. I'm about to take part in a wonderful exciting holiday adventure called The Great Escapers."
Fans shared their best wishes with him, with one commenting: "Have a swell time," while another added: "Hope you win your episode, Shaun!"
Katie Rawcliffe, Director of Entertainment & Daytime at ITV, spoke about the series saying: "We've got some of ITV's best-known faces flying out to the most gorgeous destinations in this brand-new series. We can't wait to see the cast of Corrie, I'm A Celeb, The Chase and Loose Women in all of their holiday glory!"
The Great Escapers is being produced in partnership with Jet2 and will air later this year on ITV1, ITVX, STV and STV Player.
This comes after Shaun hinted at how much money he makes recently, admitting that it is more than enough to ensure he can spend £50,000 on shoes alone.
When asked about his earnings by The Times, The Dark Destroyer shared: "A lot. That's all I'll say. How many zeros? Well into six-zero territory and my earnings have increased massively since I've started working in TV. I got paid well as a barrister but I'm now earning about ten times the amount I was before.
"I still practise, though, so I have a dual income. Probably 70 per cent of my income comes from my TV work and 30 per cent from the legal side. Everything changed when I won Mastermind in 2004. Not just my finances, my whole life."

Love Island star moving to Australia over 'embarrasment' at normal job in UK
The former islander says that she has become more self conscious after growing an audience on social media and thinks it would be easier to get a '9 to 5' Down Under Love Island alum Patsy Field has a big change coming up, and it's not a stint on another reality show or a brand deal. Instead, the 2023 contestant is heading Down Under, admitting she feels "too embarrassed" to go back to a regular 9-to-5 job in the UK. A year after her brief stint in the Love Island villa, Patsy has shared some reflections on what her life is like after a stint on telly and the difficulties she has come up against while readjusting to everyday life outside of the spotlight. She told The Sun that she feels the need to move to a different continent, explaining: "I probably will be looking for a job soon, but I'm planning on moving to Australia. A year post-show… I don't know if it comes with a little bit of embarrassment of looking for a normal 9-to-5 job. So I feel like if I move to the other side of the world and maybe find one over there, I might feel a bit better about it." Despite building up a strong social media following after being dumped just two weeks into the ITV dating show, Patsy has admitted she doesn't see herself as a traditional influencer, jokingly referring to herself as "fun-employed" instead. Patsy is hoping that it will be easier to restart her career in Australia, far away from the expectations that come with being a former islander. "I'll just have a look on Indeed in Australia and see what's going on. I used to work in administration, so I wouldn't mind doing that again… if they'll take me back into that industry," she added. One of the reasons she wants to move away is because of the pressures she has faced while trying to keep up with new fans on social media. She admitted: "In a normal 9-to-5 job, the only people who know how you're doing are your boss and some colleagues. But with social media, it's the whole world. You see how many views, how many likes, and people comment on your performance. That anxiety… I wouldn't mind being away from that." The beauty from Kent is pragmatic about the levels of success she expected after being featured on Love Island, and said she never aimed to become "the next Molly-Mae". She is also realistic about how long cast members will actually receive public attention for. "All the new Love Islanders come out and then the spotlight moves on. That's just how it is," she shrugged. However, after noticing herself start to become self-conscious about her disability again in Instagram posts after gaining more followers, Patsy is ready to go back to living more of an attention-free life. She added: "I just think doing that in Australia, far away from all the Love Island expectations, might just feel a little easier." Patsy's explanation of her experience as a former islander has come as Maya Jama hit back at recent claims that producers are too involved in what happens in the villa. During a recent appearance on The Chunkz Show she defended the real-life element of Love Island, saying: "The most they can do is encourage them to have a little chat, but it has to be real because it's reality." Maya explained that even she doesn't find out who gets dumped until the last possible second, adding: "Literally as I say it, I find out one second before anyone else."
