Lewis Capaldi wows fans as he makes a surprise appearance on stage two years after announcing music hiatus
Lewis Capaldi wowed fans after making a very unexpected guest appearance at Tom Wal ker's show in Edinburgh - two years after announcing a music hiatus.
The Scottish singer, 28, announced he would be taking a break from the spotlight for his mental health and to 'adjust to the impact' of his Tourette's diagnosis after performing at Glastonbury in June 2023.
But on Friday night, Lewis returned to the stage as he surprised the intimate crowd towards the end of the gig, which had a strict no-phone policy.
Fellow Scottish songwriter Tom, 33, performed at the Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM) gig at Assembly Halls.
The I Will Leave A Light On hitmaker advised fans not to rush on their way out - but rather to wait for an upcoming surprise.
Shortly after, Lewis sent guests into overdrive as he appeared on stage and began performing some of his most iconic tracks, including the famous ballad Someone You Loved.
Although the charity event applied a phone ban, some fans shared on X it was 'the best thing ever', while another said they were 'close to tears'.
Speaking to the BBC after the gig, Tom said: 'We've bumped into each other a few times over the years backstage at [festivals] and events, and he's a total legend.
'I know how much pressure this industry can put on artists at times, especially after a bit of a break.
'So, for him to be able to play a little secret gig in a safe space without all the phones, the noise and the expectations was perfect. I'm buzzing to have been a part of it.'
It was recently reported that Lewis could be set to make a comeback in 2025 after allegedly discussing his next album with friends, though nothing was definitely confirmed.
In an interview, Lewis's friend Yungblud, 27, has told how the singer is sounding great', before confirming that he is working on 'new music'.
Yungblud, who's been firm friends with the hitmaker prior to them both finding fame, also told how Lewis is getting his mental health back on track after he previously told how his break was to get his 'mental and physical health in order'.
He told The Sun: 'I have heard his new music and it sounds great. He is getting his mental health right.'
Y ungBlud, who real name Dominic Harrison, continued: 'I love him, as me and him have been on this ride together.
'We experienced it at the same time and he is perhaps the only friend who knows what I am going through, in the same way I know what he's going through.'
The singer, who recently released new single Hello Heaven, Hello, added that he's 'really close' with Lewis and his pal gave him advice about performing a ballad on his new album.
During his performance at Glastonbury in 2023, Lewis was coming out of a three-week mental health hiatus he had taken to 'rest and recover'.
Returning to the stage, the singer admitted he had been 's**t scared' to perform as he opened up about his mental health struggles.
The singer confirmed he would be taking another break away from the spotlight after the show.
In the middle of his set, Lewis confessed that he was struggling with his Tourette's as he said his voice had 'packed it in', after he had been coughing throughout the show.
Tourette's is a neurological condition characterised by a combination of involuntary noises and movements called tics, and can cause speech and voice abnormalities.

Despite his struggles, Lewis insisted on continuing with his set and his supportive fans rallied around him, with the show coming to an emotional close as the crowds sang Someone You Love for him.
The heartwarming moment saw Lewis walk across the Pyramid Stage and sing short bursts of the track, while the kind crowds sang at the top of their voices to support the star.
After his performance, Lewis took to his social media to say: 'The fact that this probably won't come as a surprise doesn't make it any easier to write.
'I used to be able to enjoy every second of shows like this and I'd hoped 3 weeks away would sort me out.'
He continued: 'But the truth is I'm still learning to adjust to the impact of my Tourette's and on Saturday it became obvious that I need to spend much more time getting my mental and physical health in order, so I can keep doing everything I love for a long time to come.
'I'm so incredibly sorry to everyone who had planned to come to a show before the end of the year but I need to feel well to perform at the standard you all deserve.
'Playing for you every night is all I've ever dreamed of, so this has been the most difficult decision of my life. I'll be back as soon as I possibly can.'
Six months later on New Year's Eve, Lewis updated fans, sharing: 'I'm really happy to say I've noticed a marked improvement in both since I decided to take some time off back in June.'
'For now I'm going to continue taking some time to carry on looking after myself, maybe writing some music and taking a moment to reflect on some of the most incredible years of my life.
'I want to make absolutely sure I'm 100% before getting back out there again properly for more shows and doing what I love more than anything!
'These songs mean the world to me and I'd be gutted if I'd not been able to share them. Hope this tides you all over until we can get in a room and sing them together some day very soon!'
Lewis also thanked fans for their support, saying their reaction has been 'nothing I've ever experienced and has made me more excited than ever to return to doing what I love at some point in the not too distant future'.

They met in a Miami bar in 1957 and just two days later, the racer proposed. A week after first meeting they were married, reported The Guardian. Aged 24, Louise was on tour with the Broadway production of The Seven Year Itch, while Peter, then 25, from Kidderminster, was beginning his second season as a member of Ferrari's grand prix team. A year later, the impressive driver won the British Grand Prix at Silverstone, after finishing third in the Monaco Grand Prix and fifth in France. But in Germany just weeks later, as his supportive wife sat in the Ferrari pit with a stopwatch and a lap chart, Peter suffered a fatal crash. He had reportedly been set to retire at the end of that season ahead of starting a family. 'I had only a year and a half with Peter, but it was the most joyous time,' Louise later said in the 2017 documentary Ferrari: the Race to Immortality, according to the publication. She continued: 'He was a great driver: when he won the British Grand Prix in July 1958, they even said he might become the best. He was 26. He died three weeks later. 'We'd just bought our first house, near his parents in Kidderminster. We were just starting our life together, and there it was: over.' Louise, who died 18 August 2021 at the age of 88, would later marry Canadian film producer and screenwriter Gordon Burwash. He passed away in 1980. Meanwhile, Louise went on to act again before spending her final years in Florida, volunteering at a local history museum. She would always describe Peter as the love of her life. 1960s Helen Stewart Married to Sir Jackie Stewart Back in the early days, Sir Jackie Stewart, now 85, and his wife Lady Helen, born on 21 January 1941 in Helensburgh, Scotland, were the poster boy and girl of Formula 1 racing. He won 27 races out of 99 starts and was world champion three times before being knighted in 2001, while his glamorous and stylish counterpart was the 'original pit lane girl', attending 'every race'. Lady Helen - who wed her childhood sweetheart in August 1962 - was also an actress, known for Seven Days Too Long (1968), The Wicked Die Slow (1968) and Weekend of a Champion (1972). 'My wife was the original pit lane girl, my professional stopwatch - timing my laps to the millisecond,' Sir Jackie said to the Daily Mail previously. Lady Helen – the love of his life – was around before he made the big time; they fell in love when he was 18 and she 16. Sir Jackie launched the Race Against Dementia charity with filmmaker son Mark following her diagnosis. 1970s Suzy Hunt Married James Hunt James Hunt, who competed in Formula One from 1973 to 1979, and was played by A-lister Chris Hemsworth in the 2013 film Rush, which explored the British racing driver's intense rivalry with racer Niki Lauda, was married to supermodel Suzy Miller. Together, they were one of the decade's It couples, with their nuptials in October 1974 in London, undoubtedly the society wedding of the year. Suzy was a striking woman, who, while described as 'not classically beautiful', captivated everyone she met with her willowy figure and charming presence. She met her future husband in Spain in 1974, aged 24, a year younger than Hunt. The pair fell into easy conversation, and after a whirlwind romance lasting only a few weeks, Hunt proposed. Immediately after the proposal, he reportedly expressed regret to his friends, saying he was not sure what he was doing - and was said to have spent the run up to their wedding drunk. Burton reportedly paid Hunt $1m during the couple's divorce settlement, with the driver assuring the actor: 'You've done me a wonderful turn by taking on the most alarming expense account in the country.' Hunt died of a heart attack in 1993 at his home in Wimbledon. He was 45. He reportedly left a large sum of money for his friends to get drunk at his wake. Barbro Peterson Married to Ronnie Peterson Barbro met Lotus Formula driver Ronnie Peterson in true swinging 60s style while dancing in a club in Örebro, Sweden, around the spring of 1968. She worked as a secretary before moving to New York City in 1969 to become an au pair, however, she returned for the 1970 racing season. Barbro was more of a hands-on WAG and took up the role of Ronnie's timekeeper and was often found perching on the pit counter, watching her husband's performance. The couple married in 1975 and decided to make England their home, although they had a flat in Monaco and a holiday home in their homeland, Sweden. Barbro gave first to their daughter Nina in the November of that year and the pair lived together as a happy family for a couple of years. However, only three years after they tied the knot, Ronnie tragically died aged 34 on 11 September 1978 after his Lotus crashed during the Italian Grand Prix. Riccardo Patrese had collided with James Hunt and this caused a chain-reaction which launched Ronnie's Lotus into the barriers at 100mph. The impact of the smash tore off the front end of the vehicle and he sustained severe leg injuries so much so that amputation was considered. He was rushed to Niguarda hospital in Milan, but his condition worsened through the night, causing him to pass away from a bone marrow embolism that entered his bloodstream. Barbaro found it hard to cope after the love of her life was taken away from her prematurely and died of suicide less than a week before Christmas Day in 1987 aged 40. As Barbro was so involved in her late husband's racing life, she was thought to be terribly lonely after his passing. She dated British racing driver John Watson for around five years but Lotus team manager Peter Warr believed that deep down she knew her soulmate was Ronnie. Warr told Motorsport Magazine: 'The lifestyle she led and the happiness she found with Ronnie was totally irreplaceable. She wouldn't have found it with anyone else. 'They were made for each other, and they were just delirious that things worked out so well. They loved life and they loved each other.' Their deaths left 12-year-old Nina an orphan and she was raised by her grandparents. 1980s Susie Moss Married to Sir Stirling Moss Lady Susie Moss first met British F1 legend Sir Stirling Moss when she was five years old and he was 28 in Hong Kong, as the pair's families were close. The pair met again years later when Susie moved to London aged 17. The pair struck up a friendship that slowly blossomed into a romance, despite Stirling briefly going out with Susie's older sister, Tina. Susie previously told the Mail: 'The age gap didn't matter. I never thought about it because, to me, he was never old. He was always such fun.' Susie was four months pregnant with their son Elliot when they married in 1980 at Hammersmith & Fulham Register Office. Susie was never worried that her husband might stray and said: 'Once we'd got married, he wasn't a player. He believed very strongly that one belongs to one.' According to Tom Rubython's 2004 biography, The Life of Senna, Ayrton planned to stay in Portugal with Adriane for five months during the European race season in 1994 and not return to Brazil during that time, as reported by Business Insider. This caused a rift between the pair and Ayrton's family, who allegedly felt as though the glamorous blonde model was not good enough for their son. Family of Newcastle pub pianist 'over the moon' to see lost clip

"We knew the film existed, but we never found it," Mr Gray said. "Then all of a sudden, there she is in all her glory playing the piano."It was absolutely mind blowing." Mr Gray said his Granny Peg was a musician and played in the Entertainments National Service Association (ENSA) during World War Two where she entertained the the war she had a dance band and would play in pubs and working men's clubs where things like Go As You Please parties were held, seeing her being asked to play a song while someone sang."So if she knew the song that was great, if she didn't she would get them to hum it," her grandson said in the 1980s, him and his sister would hum songs from Top of the Pops at his grandma and she would be able to play along, but had to pour her a whiskey and water first."It was absolutely superb," he said. Nick Knowles is set to wed his 33-year-old fiancée Katie Dadzie today after he popped the question last year, but the DIY SOS presenter has a chequered romantic history Nick Knowles, known for his turbulent love life over the years, is set to tie the knot to his match in Katie Dadzie, a 34-year-old businesswoman and mother of two. Despite their 27-year age difference, the former I'm A Me Out Of Here! star, who first met Katie in 2019, are smitten, and they're set to say their 'I do's' today. The 62-year-old, who is renowned for his romantic escapades as he is for his presenting prowess on BBC's DIY SOS, proposed to Katie in July 2024 when the pair had been an item for nearly three years, having initially got together in 2021. The couple are due to tie the knot today in a lavish six-figure ceremony in Essex. Their paths first crossed when Katie's daughters became friends with Nick's youngest son Eddie, 9, at a play centre. Since then, the couple has been open about their affection for each other. Last year, they caused a stir when they posed together for a photo while Katie modelled some designer lingerie. The image, which featured Katie in a scanty light pink number and Nick assisting to 'straighten the straps', was part of a collection of photos Katie posted for Nick's 61st birthday. Katie, who is a proud mum-of-two, had to defend the significant age gap between her and Nick. However, she isn't the first younger woman that the star has been associated with. Nick, a proud father to four children from three different women, seems to have a penchant for younger partners. Back in 2019, Nick showed a penchant for younger women when he was seen getting close to a woman 30 years his junior. Identified as 26-year-old PR exec Emily Hallinan, the pair were seen on a date at a dazzling West End show. The year before, rumours circulated that the TV host Nick had started seeing marketing executive Rebecca Kearns, who is also reportedly over 30 years younger than him. After splitting from Rebecca, Nick was photographed getting cosy with Emmerdale's Gemma Oaten following an evening at the TV Choice Awards in September 2016. However, these pictures triggered their breakup, with Gemma recounting the harsh reality: "One Sunday morning we were lying in bed and all these texts came through about us being photographed together. In an instant he completely changed. It was all about him and how it was going to affect his family. It was really cruel as he said it didn't matter for me. I felt sick." At six it's all off." The DIY SOS host has confessed to facing challenges in his family life, admitting he wasn't often present when his older children were growing up. "It's the most difficult thing in modern life to weigh up the amount you work to improve their lifestyles versus missing your children grow up. "I'm not sure I got that right with my older children, I was probably away too much. So I'm making a greater effort now with my eight-year-old," he revealed, adding: "Having said that, my older children are all doing great and are very happy." Nick went on to say: "Having an eight-year-old son at the age of 60 is the most wonderful thing in the world. It keeps you young, makes you see the world through new eyes. "It reminds you of your own fascination with the world and all there is to see and do. We have a map of the world in his bedroom, and before bedtime we go through and he names four countries in each continent. I want him to know there's a big world out there, to travel and meet people the way I have, because it gives you a much greater understanding of humankind."
