Wheat procurement in UP crosses 10.27 lakh metric tonnes in 2025–26

Lucknow: Wheat procurement in Uttar Pradesh crossed a new milestone of ten lakh metric tonnes for the Rabi season in 2025-26, a government spokesman said on Thursday. An estimated two lakh farmers sold wheat at the state government-operated mobile procurement centers - marking a first of its kind initiative.
Surpassing last year's 9.31 lakh metric tonnes, the state government procured over 10.27 lakh metric tonnes, this season and the rise in figures has largely been attributed to Yogi Adityanath government's decision to extend procurement through mobile centres, that reached deep into villages.
Wheat procurement for the Rabi marketing season (2025–26) began on March 17 and concluded on June 15. The process was carried out through 5,853 procurement centres across the state.
'More than two lakh farmers sold over 10.27 lakh metric tonnes of wheat to government agencies and payment of about Rs 2,508.26 crore has been disbursed directly to the farmers,' said the government in a statement.
As per the Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's directive, procurement centres remained open daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. even during holidays. Senior officials of the Food and Civil Supplies department actively visited villages and maintained communication with farmers. On Sundays as well, officers continued wheat procurement through mobile centres, ensuring farmers faced no disruption in the process.
The Minimum Support Price (MSP) for wheat was fixed at Rs 2,425 per quintal for 2025–26, up from Rs 2,275 in the previous season – thus marking a rise of Rs 150, as fixed by the Centre, which in turn further benefitted the farmers.
Payments to farmers were processed within 48 hours via the Public Financial Management System (PFMS) into Aadhaar-linked bank accounts. Also, the mobile procurement units enabled doorstep wheat procurement from farmers in remote villages.

Thiruvananthapuram: After Fort police, Cantonment and Thampanoor police also registered cases based on the complaints of those who allegedly lost money in the gold frauds involving Al- Muqtadir Gold and Diamond Group. The three cases related to the jewellery's Aristo Junction branch were registered at Thampanoor station and those related to the Pazhavangadi branch were registered at Fort police station (55 cases). The 23 cases at Cantonment police station were registered based on complaints related to the firm's Pulimoodu branch. Police said the number of cases will increase in the coming days as there are hundreds of complaints for which FIRs are yet to be registered. The owner of the group Muhammed Mansoor Abdulsalam, managers Noufal and Sabeer, salesmen Jesim, Unais, Rameez, Shemeer and others, along with agents Ashraf, Sabaad and others are the accused in the case. Meanwhile, Fort police also added global manager of the group Gulzar Ahmad Sett as an accused in the case. The accused allegedly cheated crores of rupees from several people by offering gold ornaments at a discounted rate without adding any making charge. People were also cheated by promising attractive profits upon investing in various gold schemes, the complainants alleged. Following this, Al- Muqtadir investors group representatives filed complaints against the firm with the chief minister's office and also with the state police chief. "It is believed that a fraud worth Rs 1,000 crores occurred through its 40 branches from Thiruvananthapuram to Palakkad. Over 2,000 people fell into the trap as the company hired several agents offering 10% commission to canvas people to invest in the schemes across the state," said one of the victims.

Mango trader dies of heart attack amid price crash in Kolar

Bengaluru: Mohammed Shafiulla (55), a prominent mango trader and owner of Taj Mango Mandi in Srinivasapur, Kolar district, died of a heart attack at a farm in Thotli village on Monday. Shafiulla had invested over Rs 30 lakh in advance payments to farmers in villages like Thotli and Rojenahalli and on inputs such as pesticides and labour. He had been personally overseeing mango harvesting when he collapsed after transporting a few tractor loads. His nephew, Anees Ahmed, Secretary of the Mango Traders Association, said Shafiulla was deeply distressed over the steep fall in mango prices and had recently shared concerns that he might not recover even his input costs. Anees urged the State Government to announce a support price for mangoes and provide compensation to Shafiulla's family, stating the tragedy could have been avoided with timely intervention. Chinnappa Reddy, President of the Kolar District Mango Growers Welfare Association, echoed these concerns. He emphasized that both traders and farmers are suffering due to falling prices and urged the government to act immediately to stabilize the market and support those dependent on the mango trade.
