Cooler weather in the area for Sunday's races may make this year's Winternationals the fastest in the competition's 65-year history, according to lead broadcaster Brian Lohnes.

'You have to think of it kind of like a marathon…if you want to run a marathon, you don't want it to be 90-degree weather – you want it to be cloudy and cool,' Lohnes told KTLA 5's Erin Myers. 'That's exactly what we're going to have…the cooler it is, the faster the cars go, and for 65 years we've run the Winternationals here, this could be the fastest one we've ever had.'

Scheffler primed to win first U.S. Open
OAKMONT, Pa (WKBN) – Scottie Scheffler is currently ranked number one according to the Official World Golf Rankings and has his eyes on the 125th U.S. Open Golf Championship at Oakmont Country Club next. Watch above for an interview with Scheffler and highlights from his practice rounds! 'I remember coming here and thinking that was really fun, really cool to be playing the U.S. Open,' said Scheffler. 'It's my first major and was maybe my third start on the pro tour at the time, those are very cool experiences.' Scheffler's best performance at the U.S. Open came in 2022 as he tied for 2nd with Will Zalatoris. 'This golf course, there's not many trees out there, but there's so many bunkers,' said Scheffler. 'I don't really know if there's a golf course you can necessarily just overpower with kind of a bomb and gouge type of strategy, especially with the way the rough is. You have to play the angles.' The 125th U.S. Open is Scheffler's seventh time playing the tournament. Scheffler first qualified for the tournament in 2016 and was a low amateur in 2017. 'This is probably the hardest golf course that we'll play, maybe ever, and I mean, that's pretty much all it is,' said Scheffler. The World No. 1 ranked golfer already has won three tournaments in 2025. His wins this year include the 2025 PGA Championship in May at Quail Hollow Club. 'I'm going to try to hit the green, whether it's a three-order driver from that back tee, it depends on wind direction, but basically you're going to try to get the ball in the green and two putt,' said Scheffler. Scheffler tees off on hole one at 1:25 p.m. Thursday, June 12. Interviews courtesy of Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Partly sunny and hot with a isolated strong storm or two possible across northern Utah
SALT LAKE CITY () – Happy Wednesday, Utah! A Disturbance will graze northern Utah Wednesday afternoon which could help to spark a few more isolated storms over northern portions of the state. This system may have enough dynamics to produce an isolated strong storm or two Wednesday afternoon and evening near Cache Valley and the Bear River Range, along with SW Wyoming. The Storm Prediction Center has outlined the northern third of Utah under a Marginal 'level 1' risk for strong winds, frequent lightning, and heavy rain with any of these storms that may develop on Wednesday afternoon. Thursday will feature more sunshine and hot temperatures. A stronger ridge of high pressure will settle overhead towards Friday, leading to drier and hotter conditions just in time for our Father's Day weekend. High temps will be in the mid to upper 90s for the Wasatch Front. High temps across southern Utah will warm between 100°-105°. The warm temperatures, low humidity levels, dry vegetation, and gusty southwest winds will lead to a critical fire danger developing across portions of central and southern Utah. Any outdoor burning will be highly discouraged. We'll keep you posted on the latest updates in our 4Warn Weather forecast, both on-air and online, we are Good4Utah! Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. One or Two Stronger Storms Possible Late Thursday
A marginal risk (level 1/5) is in place across the Mid-South for Thursday evening. One or two storms will have the potential to be on the strong side with the main threat being damaging winds. Rain chances and our humidity levels are going up in the coming days. It won't be a washout for Father's Day weekend, but we'll have to contend with some showers and storms from time to time.
