28,000 BPL families missing out on govt aid in Prayagraj
A total of 28,365 families, who are below the poverty line (BPL), in the district are not guarded by the benefits of government-run health, welfare, food security or pension schemes, according to official data.
This information came to light after the district administration undertook a survey in the wake of the state government implementing its 'zero poverty' scheme, said district officials, adding they aimed at including the maximum number of people as beneficiaries of such programmes.
They said in Prayagraj district, the number of households with ration cards and Antyodaya ration cards, at present, stood at 9.34 lakh (benefiting 40 lakh people) and 86,590 (benefiting 2.61 lakh people), respectively.
The Zero Poverty Uttar Pradesh Campaign, also known as the Zero Poverty Program, is an initiative by the state government to eliminate extreme poverty in the state within a year. The programme, launched on October 2 last year, aims to identify and support extremely poor families through direct benefit transfers (DBTs) and livelihood support, with the goal being to increase the annual income of such families to a minimum of ₹1.25 lakh.
'The district panchayat Raj officer (DPRO) and district development officer (DDO) have conducted a survey at their level to identify eligible beneficiaries... All found eligible will get the benefits,' said district magistrate Ravindra Kumar Mandar.
12k eligible for housing, 3.8k for pension
The district officials said they had 25,015 new applications for a government housing scheme alone and, out of them, 12,308 people were found to be eligible. Similarly, 3,870 people were found to be eligible for a government pension scheme and more than 2,000 for ration cards under Kisan Samman Nidhi initiative, they added.
They said for the survey teams of block development officers (BDOs) and lekhpals were deployed in development blocks. Overall, the exercise, which went on for about a month, saw the participation of about 400 officials.
'The survey work under the Zero Poverty scheme has been completed. The final list is being prepared. Every eligible person is being made to apply for welfare schemes,' said Harshika Singh, the chief development officer (CDO).

'From modern irrigation and credit access to digital marketplaces and agri-tech innovations, India is embracing smart farming and reviving traditional practices like millet cultivation and natural farming. Regarding Budget allocation, the ministry said, 'Agriculture serves as the backbone of India's economy, playing a pivotal role in ensuring food security, providing employment, and contributing to overall economic development. It supports the livelihoods of a significant portion of the population and remains vital to India's socio-economic fabric.' The Budget estimates for the Department of Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare have seen growth, rising from Rs 27,663 crore in 2013-14 to Rs 1,37,664.35 crore in 2024-25, an increase of nearly five times over the period, the ministry said. The country's grain production has also grown steadily from 265.05 million tonnes in 2014-15 to an estimated 347.44 million tonnes in 2024-25. 'The major crops include rice, wheat, jowar, bajra, maize, ragi, barley, gram, tur, pulses, groundnut, soybean, rapeseed and mustard, oilseeds, sugarcane, cotton, and jute & mesta,' the statement read. During the period 2014-15 to 2024-25, procurement of 14 Kharif crops was 7,871 Lakh Metric Tonnes (LMT), while during the period 2004-05 to 2013-14, procurement was 4679 LMT. Apart from this, the ministry also highlighted various other schemes which have been launched, like Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana, Soil Health cards. Whereas on modern infrastructure of agriculture, the ministry mentioned Agriculture Infrastructure Fund (AIF), PM Kisan Samriddhi Kendras, e-NAM and Market Reform and Mega Food Parks and how they have grown over the years. On innovation and entrepreneurship, the ministry mentioned its various initiatives such as NAMO Drone Didi, AgriSURE, Diversifying Farmer Incomes and how food processing sector has become a key driver in farmer's income growth. 3.69 crore houses for rural poor sanctioned under PMAY scheme: Minister
Panaji: Union Minister of State for Rural Development and Communications Pemmasani Chandrasekhar on Friday said a total of 3.69 crore houses have been sanctioned and 2.76 crore homes have been completed so far under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana–Gramin "giving a concrete form to the dreams of the rural poor". "With an ambitious goal of 4.95 crore houses by March 2029, we have already made remarkable strides. Each number represents a family sleeping peacefully, children studying in safety, and elders ageing with dignity," the minister remarked. Addressing the regional rural workshop under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin here, the Minister said: "When our villages prosper, Bharat prospers. Under PM Narendra Modi's transformative vision, the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana embodies the true spirit of Antyodaya—uplifting the last person in the queue. A Viksit Bharat (developed India) is not possible without empowered rural communities." The Minister said the government is converging PMAY-G with flagship schemes like Ujjwala, Jal Jeevan Mission and Swachh Bharat to create holistic habitats, not just homes. This is ensuring that every rural family has access to clean water, sanitation, and clean cooking fuel. The government's vision extends far beyond bricks and mortar. Through mason training programmes, the government is creating an army of skilled artisans in rural India. This is economic empowerment in its purest form - creating jobs, building expertise, and ensuring that rural youth become the authors of their own prosperity, he said. "We are exploring Green Housing, where environmental consciousness blends with affordable construction, giving rise to homes that care not just for families, but for the planet itself. Embracing Artificial Intelligence in beneficiary selection, where technology becomes the great equaliser—ensuring that it is merit, not influence, that determines who receives support," the minister observed. He further stated that the government was aligning its policy with the Sustainable Development Goals, connecting local aspirations to global responsibilities, so that every village contributes to the progress of humanity. It was also reimagining microfinance and turning it into a powerful bridge to link rural aspirations with real opportunities, "empowering people to turn dreams into achievements". 'As we step into the Amrit Kaal, it is no longer just about numbers—it's about quality, sustainability, and long-term impact. By embracing innovation, data, and inclusive financing, we can shape rural development. Every family that moves from a kutcha to a pucca house with effective convergence is taking a step toward national transformation,' he added. Stubble burning cases rise more than twofold from last year in division
Indore: Indore division has reported more than a twofold rise in stubble (crop residue) burning incidents after Rabi crop cultivation this year. This increase has prompted the state govt to explore action, including depriving farmers of direct financial benefits under the 'Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana'. According to official records, all eight districts under Indore division reported a total of 1,225 incidents of stubble burning between March 15 and June 30 last year. However, the figure is more than double from March 15 and May 29 this year. Against last year, this time, a total of 3,297 incidents were reported till May 29. The maximum incidents of stubble burning were reported in Indore district, with 1,544 this year, while a total of 608 incidents were reported last year. The neighbouring district, Dhar, followed Indore by reporting a total of 1,258 incidents of stubble burning this year, compared to 470 reported last year after the Rabi season. However, three tribal-dominated districts, including Jhabua, Alirajpur, and Barwani, reported incidents in single digits this year as well as last year. He warned that those found burning stubble would be deprived of 'Kisan Samman Nidhi'. Despite issuing warnings, imposing penalties, and even lodging FIRs against farmers involved in stubble burning in Indore and other districts, a multifold rise in incidents was reported this year. The administration fined farmers for stubble burning, with penalties ranging from Rs 2,500 to Rs 15,000, depending on the size of the land. Despite the fines, the violators view the costs of alternatives like mechanical removal as higher than the penalty, sources said. According to experts, there is no 'proper' solution that farmers currently have, nor is the govt offering them a way to get rid of stubble to prepare the agricultural field for the next year. Collectors Present Their Innovative Approach In Agriculture The divisional level meeting on Wednesday saw agriculture production commissioner Ashok Barnwal reviewing the schemes, programmes, and achievements of agriculture, horticulture, food processing, cooperation, and other related institutions. Collectors from all eight districts presented the innovations being undertaken in the agricultural sector in their respective areas. Barnwal particularly commended Jhabua collector Neha Meena for her innovative approach in agriculture, specifically for the successful production of arhar (pigeon pea) Pusa-16, which yielded excellent results. He encouraged officials to urge farmers to focus on cultivating high-value crops. The commissioner directed cooperative bank officials to expedite agricultural loan recovery. He warned against any negligence, irregularity, or indiscipline in duties, stating that strict action would be taken against defaulting officers.
