Residents Torquay harbourside, Devon, were gutted that their beautiful town was being trashed, with litter and drugs paraphernalia left around.
Fuming homeowners, dog walkers and families are scared to walk down some streets, meanwhile, visitors are leaving the once bustling hotspot disappointed.
One scathing local said the situation was "very bad" and claimed the council aren't stepping up to resolve it, as reported by DevonLive.
"We have contacted the council, the police and Swisco (street cleaning and maintenance company), but haven't heard back from any of them," they said.
Pointing at a pile of litter, they added: "It annoys me when you read all these pieces about Torquay being such a lovely place, yet, just two minutes from where the tourists walk up and down, you have this horrendous thing.'
Horrified residents have also said they have seen the area increasingly plagued by drug use - exacerbated by a lack of police presence.
However, Torbay Council has announced that the area is set to be the site of a huge £70million regeneration scheme, aimed to tackle the "horrendous" harbourside.
It has shared a plan that councillors believe will "revolutionise" the popular town.
The Strand area, a former Debenhams store, will be the site of a " high-quality landmark" hotel with a staircase connecting the harbourside with The Terrace.
With views of the harbour, the soon-to-be hotel will boast 154 rooms and a luxurious space on the ground floor.

It's predicted that the development will provide about 80 full-time jobs, £32m in paychecks, and entice 86,000 new visitors to Torquay in the first 30 years.
The Strand was bought up in 2020 with planning granted in 2023 when Wilmott Dixon and Milligan appointed as Torbay's regeneration partners
Stuart Harris, CEO for Milligan, said: "This is more than just a regeneration project - it's about delivering something truly special for the town, blending high-quality design with exceptional experiences.
"One of the key design features is a striking new staircase, which will enhance the public realm and provide a seamless connection between the harbourside and The Terrace improving connectivity to the Hilton, Premier Inn, and car park."
The designs are still in the works with Torbay council claiming they want to include "historical elements" in the final design.
Residents are able to give their say in summer when the final plans are released with results in early 2026.
Torbay council assured locals that no buildings will be demolished until they get the go-ahead from residents.

Morrisons petrol station robbed as man rushed to hospital in late-night incident
The petrol station on Lindsayfield Avenue in East Kilbride has been robbed as police launch a manhunt. A Scots petrol station has been cordoned off by police following a late-night robbery which left a man in hospital. Police Scotland have launched a manhunt after the Morrisons supermarket fuel station on Lindsayfield Avenue, East Kilbride, was robbed in the early hours of this morning (Monday June 9). Emergency personnel received a call about the incident at around 12.15am and crews raced to the scene. Upon attending, a male member of staff was rushed to hospital. The force have since opened a probe to find those responsible for the raid. Images from the scene show the petrol station taped off by police with cop cars still in attendance. A Police Scotland spokesperson said: 'An investigation is underway following a robbery at a fuel station on Lindsayfield Avenue, East Kilbride. " Police received a call around 12.15am on Monday, June 9, 2025. " Emergency services attended and a male member of staff was taken to hospital. " Enquiries are ongoing to locate those responsible.' Last month, in a separate incident, we reported that a crowd of masked youths threw a lit flare into a petrol station shop in a shocking rampage in Wishaw. Up to 25 yobs descended on the forecourt of the petrol station on Overtown Road in the Lanarkshire town at around 5:50pm on May 13. CCTV captured the gang, a number of whom wore balaclavas and dark clothing, as they launched the missile. Staff members and a number of customers were inside the petrol station shop during the attack. Police were called to the disturbance but the youths had fled the scene. It is understood the group had earlier been at Newmains United Community FC ground before they made their way to the petrol station. Cooper Brothers Ltd, who own the premises, took to social media for help identifying the culprits. A statement read: "A group of over 25 youths entered our petrol station forecourt and lit a flare. It was then thrown into the shop, with staff and customers still in the store, causing smoke and burn damage to the floor and some stock. "Thankfully, no fuel was ignited. "The group had been at the Newmains United Community FC ground beforehand, with some claiming to be 'Ultras' from the club. Some individuals were wearing black or red-and-black balaclavas. "We've handed over full CCTV to Police Scotland, but any additional information could really help. The petrol station shared CCTV of the moment black smoke filled the petrol station ship after the pyrotechnic was thrown inside. A Police Scotland spokesperson said: 'Around 5.50pm on Tuesday, 13 May, 2025, we received a report of a disturbance involving a group of youths at a premises on Overtown Road, Wishaw. 'Officers attended and the group had dispersed. Enquiries are ongoing.' Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! The clip shows the Range Rover on fire while the accompanying music in the 22 second clip is from Frankie Goes to Hollywood's 1988 hit Two Tribes with the lyrics "When two tribes go to war, a point is all that you can score." The clip then changes to footage of another vehicle, this time a large white Ford Transit van being firebombed as a masked hood runs back from the blaze, before throwing, what appears to be, more fuel over the flames. The sinister video - shared by mob group Tamo Junto - ends with a picture of a black chess piece and an egg timer, presumably some kind of symbolic warning from one side to the other. Busy Scots road notorious for speeding drivers hit with new 30mph limit years after fatal crash
The road previously claimed the life of a man who was killed after being struck by a car SAFETY FEARS Busy Scots road notorious for speeding drivers hit with new 30mph limit years after fatal crash Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) A BUSY Scots road notorious for speeding cars has had a camera fitted to catch rogue drivers after a man was killed crossing the road. A speed camera has been put in place on Brediland Road in Paisley in a bid to enforce the 30mph speed limit. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 1 A speed camera has been put in place on Brediland Road in Paisley Credit: Alamy It comes almost three years after pedestrian Jim Paterson, 63, was killed when he was hit by a car on the road just after midnight on Sunday, November 27, 2022. Following his death, numerous surveys of the road were carried out and found it has a high footfall, mainly of vulnerable users, due to primary and high schools nearby. Police Scotland Safety Cameras department also looked into concerns about the danger the road posed and found a history of collisions at the blackspot - with three collisions causing injury in four years. Speed surveys conducted in the area also found that 70 per cent of vehicles on the road were travelling above the 30mph speed limit. Alan Bowater, area manager for the West Safety Camera Unit; 'Most people aren't aware that the placing of a speed camera is in response to someone having been injured or killed at the location as a result of speeding. Excess speed is recognised as one of the most significant factors in fatal collisions. Police Scotland Safety Cameras aim is to reduce the number of people injured on our roads through targeted camera enforcement and improving driver behaviour. Without effective enforcement there can be no progress towards safer roads.' Local Councillor Anne Hannigan states this will be welcomed by residents. 'When I was knocking on doors in early 2022, speeding and general driving behaviour on Brediland Road was frequently mentioned as a major concern, and sadly during my first year as a councillor, in November that year a precious life was lost. "This will hopefully help prevent another truly tragic death on this stretch where all who use the road regularly witness speeding and frequent disregard of lights and pedestrian crossings, which is unacceptable on all our roads, but is even more selfish and worrying given the presence of two primary schools and close proximity of a high school.' Drivers caught speeding by a fixed camera nerally include a £100 fixed penalty fine and three penalty points on their license. Watch shock moment car get trapped on railway crossing before train speeds through However more severe speeding violations can lead to larger fines, additional points, or even a driving ban.
