Recently, G Chandrasekhar Reddy was appointed as the chief information commissioner.There was speculation that the governor had initially rejected a list of six names proposed for the commissioner posts. However, four names were approved on Monday. It remains unclear whether these approvals occurred before, during, or after the chief minister's meeting with the governor.
Sources indicate that discussions may still be ongoing regarding the remaining two candidates.During the meeting, CM Revanth, accompanied by minister D Sridhar Babu, is believed to have briefed the governor on several key issues, including the current situation in the state, the impact of tensions between India and Pakistan, and the state's security preparedness. They also reportedly discussed the political climate in Telangana, along with the implementation of various welfare schemes and development programmes.The meeting carries political significance, particularly as the cabinet expansion in the state remains pending. Additionally, the governor recently sent the Backward Classes reservation bill for presidential reference—a move that is also believed to have been part of the discussions.Notably, this marks the first time the governor has withheld immediate consent to a list of commissioner appointments proposed by the govt, as well as to a legislative bill.

The instructions, issued through a circular dated May 13, came as the state government accepted the recommendations made by Gujarat State Information Commission in its annual report for 2023-24 for effective implementation of the Right to Information (RTI) Act. The information panel has thanked the state government for issuing the 'revolutionary instructions', according to an official release on Wednesday. The other instructions issued by the state government to public authorities are: carry out bifurcation of government records; preserve the same with index and make it available on website; provide information in photo format when application is made on email, without giving it in physical format, etc. Besides, the state government has issued instructions to all the public authorities to make its 'proactive disclosures up-to-date' so as to minimise the use of RTI Act. Instructions have been given to provide the proactive disclosures at a minimal cost of printing, or even free-of-cost, to the applicant. The authorities have been instructed to proactively disclose information on various unauthorised constructions and the action taken on them, besides issues pertaining to various permits, licences, permissions, etc. Moreover, public authorities have been instructed to work out a system under which each time such information is sought, the applicant automatically gets to know of every stage of the permission of the application through message or email. Thanking the state government, the Gujarat State Information Commission has said the instructions would bring about 'radical change' in the implementation of the RTI Act, the release stated.

Gujarat govt to provide first five pages of info free under RTI Act
Gandhinagar: The state govt has made significant changes in the system of govt departments providing information under the Right to Information (RTI) Act. All departments are now directed to provide the first five pages of information sought under the RTI Act free of charge. On Wednesday, the govt announced that it issued a notification on May 13 this year, directing all departments to make changes in the method of providing information. Apart from providing information of up to five pages free, the govt has directed departments to properly classify records maintain them with an index and publish them appropriately on their websites. Moreover, the govt stated in the notification that when applicants are called for self-inspection of records, they should be allowed to take photos of only the information that can be provided and carry it on a portable storage device with no need to send it in physical form afterwards. The Gujarat Information Commission (GIC) made these recommendations to the state govt in its annual report for 2023-24, which was tabled in the budget session of the state assembly earlier this year. An official statement on Wednesday said that instructions have been given to departments to provide proactive disclosure (PAD) to citizens. "Records of actions taken by the state govt regarding illegal constructions and encroachments, and details of various permits, licences, approvals and authorizations granted should be proactively published," the statement said. Additionally, to keep applicants informed about the progress of their applications, all public authorities have been instructed to set up a system where applicants receive updates via message or email at each stage of approval after submitting an application.
