Here's Why ELLE Editors Are Hooked On Aligne's Affordable Jeans

Elle2 days ago
We're just a little bit obsessed with British brands here at ELLE UK. And at the very top of our list for elevated staples is Aligne.
Despite launching in 2020 in the middle of lockdown, this label has survived and thrived. And we reckon its because Aligne is filling the chasm that's deepened since fast fashion grew and designer labels became so unattainable. Whatever the everyday woman needs, from tailoring and workwear to comfy dresses and cool jackets that last in your wardrobe, Aligne has got it. Better still, it won't cost a month's rent.
The label is known for its impeccable pattern cutting. Lest we remind you of the Leo waistcoat – longline, with a flattering nipped-in waist – that sold out time and time again. So when we heard a denim line was coming back in May, we were thrilled.

From the jump, the jeans collection has been fairly priced at £99 per pair. The offering isn't overwhelmingly vast, but it's not so edited that the cuts only suit one style of body. Sizes range from a 24-40 inch waist, which translate to UK sizes 4-22.
We did hold off shouting about this gem of a collection because we wanted to really give these jeans a wash/wear/tear before recommending them to our readers. And now, as you might have guessed, here we are doing just that.
Keep scrolling to see our pick of four incredible pairs of Aligne jeans, starting from just £50, road-tested by ELLE UK editors of different ages, heights and sizes. (Spoiler alert: we all found a pair that fitted perfectly). The new collection of denim launches on 5 August and we anticipate adding a few new pairs to basket then too...
'When Aligne's new denim collection dropped, I was drawn to the Markus like a moth to a flame. Because when the leading horseshoe jeans retail at around £300, it's quite rare to see something of the same quality for anything less.
'By quality I mean that Aligne has truly nailed that directional barrel leg shape. These jeans look designer. They are cut to perfection: curving out from the high waist to create impressive volume and cinching at the ankle to create that sculptural, swooping leg. The two flat seams at each knee reinforce that shape.
'I prefer the dark wash as the denim is heavier for added structure. I also think this indigo hue is easier to dress up for work (think white shirting and a ballet flat) or dinners out with friends (a bandeau top and a cool mule).'
– Abigail Southan, Senior Ecommerce Editor (Fashion & Beauty)
'Buying jeans when you're plus size is a complete minefield. When jeans do and then don't fit into the same size from the same brand on the same day, it can feel hopeless and a fool's errand.
'I love Aligne and when browsing sale bits recently, I was surprised at how reasonable the jeans were. Another editor had told me that they were great quality, so I thought I'd give some a try in various sizes. It also helps to know, especially when buying something as hit or miss as denim, how easy Aligne makes returns – honestly, it's incredible.
'I've become used to ordering up to two sizes bigger to guarantee a fit, but with Aligne the jeans were actually true to size. The complete joy of sending some back that were too big when usually I'm sized out of brands, is unrivalled.
'This wide-leg pair (now £50!) was my first foray into Aligne jeans and I absolutely love them. The colour is perfect, that really strong indigo, and the weight of the denim is ideal – it's heavy enough to fall nicely around the ankles but also light enough that you don't feel smothered. I love the pleat detailing at the front, it just really elevates the whole look.'
– Rhiannon Evans, Acting Site Director
'At 5'4" I love a leg-lengthening jean, and these flattering flares deliver just that. In soft organic cotton, they have a comfortable amount of stretch while also maintaining a sharp silhouette suitable for smart occasions (or wearing all day at my desk).
'They sit on the waistline and are available in Jet Black (my preference) or a summer-friendly Ocean Blue. With its edited, capsule collection, Aligne makes some of the highest quality jeans I've tried on the high street.
'I've found this style to have an ideal heel-skimming length when standard length jeans normally come up short on me. They work really well worn with ankle boots or slingbacks for an added (and hidden) boost of height.'
– Esther Coombes, Senior Ecommerce Editor (Luxury)
'Dresses I can do. Skirts I have sussed but finding great denim that works for me and my hourglass, thick-thighed figure has been a life-long journey. Sure, there have been pairs that have served me well but another style in exactly the same size from exactly the same brand just doesn't work. It's frustrating and deflating and why I have often gone years without wearing jeans. It's not that I've not wanted to, more than I can't face trying on countless pairs that just don't fit right. I'm sure many of you relate.
'This is why I've come to love Aligne denim jeans so much. Right now, there are four pairs in my wardrobe (I can't believe I have four pairs of jeans that fit me and are all from the same brand!) with the latest being the Low Rise Loose Wide-Leg Jeans in a dark grey wash the brand calls Thunder Sky. They're great. For now, with Alaïa thong sandals and a beloved 16Arlington sequin tank top and come autumn with layers of cashmere and sharp-toed boots. Aligne denim is as much for denim lovers as it is denim deniers. Try a pair for yourself and you'll soon see, feel and therefore understand what all the fuss is about.'

6-Year-Old Boy Covered in Bruises After Giant Octopus Grabbed His Arm and Wouldn't Let Go at a Texas Aquarium

The child's bruises could last between seven and 14 days, the San Antonio Aquarium saidNEED TO KNOW A six-year-old boy is covered in bruises after an octopus grabbed his arm and wouldn't let go The incident took place at the San Antonio Aquarium in Texas on July 14 The child's mother has spoken out about the situation on TikTokA 6-year-old boy was injured after an octopus grabbed his arm and wouldn't let go. Britney Taryn, the child's mom, spoke about the situation that took place during a July 14 visit to the San Antonio Aquarium in a TikTok video. According to Taryn, the giant Pacific octopus attached itself to her son Leo's arm while he was at a touch tank. She added that she and her child had visited the aquarium before, and even met the same sea creature in the past. The San Antonio Aquarium did not respond to PEOPLE's request for comment, nor did Taryn. In the social media video shared by Taryn, her son's arm can be seen covered in small, dark purple suction bruises, going from his wrist to his armpit. "My son is very level-headed when it comes to animals, so when he had his arm in there, and he starts saying, 'Mom, it's not letting me go — and way too calmly — 'I'm like, 'Oh, okay.' So I'm helping him get down from the step and trying to pull him away from the octopus, and that octopus is not letting go," she said. Taryn continued, "The octopus starts coming out of the tank, and the reason we don't have pictures or videos of this is because my friend was also freaking out." Following the incident, the San Antonio Aquarium posted a video on TikTok on July 26, highlighting the bruises the specific octopus can leave behind — and how they can last between seven to 14 days. "So there's around 200 suction cups per arm. And as they grow ... they will actually shed their suction cup," an aquarium employee said in the clip. The aquarium added that the giant Pacific octopus can lift up to 700 pounds. In a follow-up video, Taryn said she is working to campaign for safer and more comfortable living conditions for this animal, as well as others in similar situations. The mother added that she reached out to the San Antonio Aquarium and asked them to formally document the incident, and to provide an accessible explanation of the aquarium's safety protocols for when visitors interact with animals. Taryn, claimed in the video, however, that she had not heard back from the Texas-based establishment. Read the original article on People

Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Kelly Osbourne has paid an emotional tribute to her father, rock legend Ozzy Osbourne, following his funeral service this week. The Context Osbourne died on July 22 at the age of 76, following his struggles with Parkinson's disease, which was diagnosed in 2019. His death came just weeks after he performed at the Black Sabbath farewell concert in Birmingham, England, on July 5. The show marked the first time the original rock band members had reunited in 20 years. Osbourne was laid to rest at his Buckinghamshire home on Thursday after a public procession through the streets of Birmingham the day before. It was attended by his family and thousands of fans. What To Know In an Instagram story, Kelly posted a photo of a massive floral display that read "OZZY F****** OSBOURNE," placed beside the lake on the grounds of the family's Buckinghamshire estate—now the rock legend's final resting place. Osbourne was laid to rest at a private service held at the 250-acre Buckinghamshire estate he and his wife, Sharon Osbourne, purchased in 1993. The intimate gathering, attended by 110 of his loved ones, included Sharon and their children Jack, Kelly, Aimee, and Louis, Ozzy's son from a previous marriage. The British newspaper The Sun said a stage was set up on the property, where friends including punk singer Yungblud paid tribute to the musician. Jacob King/PA via AP Guests were transported from local hotels to the estate and received black invitations adorned with a cross and the message: "In loving memory of Ozzy Osbourne." The home was decorated with photographs of the heavy-metal icon, and each attendee was given a keepsake photo of him. Musicians including Ozzy's Black Sabbath bandmates, Metallica's James Hetfield, Elton John, Slipknot's Corey Taylor, Marilyn Manson, and longtime guitarist Zakk Wylde were among the mourners. Before the private ceremony, a public farewell was held in Birmingham, where Sharon and the family walked behind Ozzy's hearse as it paused at key landmarks from his life—including his childhood home on Lodge Road in Aston. Crowds lined the streets chanting "Ozzy! Ozzy! Ozzy! Oi! Oi! Oi!" as a brass band performed Black Sabbath's "Iron Man." Sharon was seen in tears as she read a tribute, flanked by her children, each of whom laid a pink flower wrapped in black paper at a memorial that declared: "Birmingham will always love you." What People Are Saying Ozzy Osbourne's family said in a statement announcing his death: "It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning. He was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at this time." Lord Mayor of Birmingham Zafar Iqbal said: "Ozzy was more than a music legend—he was a son of Birmingham. It was important to the city that we support a fitting, dignified tribute ahead of a private family funeral." During his farewell concert on July 5, Ozzy Osbourne told over 40,000 fans: "You've no idea how I feel—thank you from the bottom of my heart." What Happens Next Prior to his death, Ozzy Osbourne announced via social media that Black Sabbath's farewell concert would be released in theaters as a movie in 2026.
