Married at First Sight's Palesa opens up about marriage reality and TV experience
On the show, couples meet and fall in love at the altar. When Palesa Mphaki and Tshepo Miya first locked eyes, sparks flew instantly. For the longest time, they appeared to be the perfect match among all the couples. However, their first major test came when Tshepo brought up the topic of polygamy. This didn't sit well with Palesa at all, and it took considerable time for her to process and move past the conversation. But if viewers thought that was their biggest challenge, they were wrong. Last night's episode revealed much deeper cracks in their seemingly perfect relationship, exposing issues that run far beneath the surface. The bombshell? Palesa now suspects that Tshepo may already be cheating on her - a devastating blow that could shatter their fairy-tale romance. Palesa shares some tea on joining the show, her relationship with Tshepo, and more. What made you say yes to joining Married at First Sight South Africa? I said yes to Married at First Sight South Africa for the experience, with the objective of discovering affection through an unorthodox approach. How has it been watching yourself on screen? Watching myself on screen has been a peculiar experience, yet I am grateful for the occasion to observe myself from a distinct perspective. Are people starting to recognise you in public? What's that experience been like? Yes, people are beginning to take notice of me. I'm gradually becoming accustomed to the stares and whispers that surround me. It's quite amusing to observe. I appreciate those who are bold enough to approach and acknowledge me when I'm out and about. The recognition is gratifying, and I'm slowly becoming more comfortable with it. When you first laid eyes on Tshepo at the altar, what was going through your mind? When I first laid eyes on Tshepo, I was slightly shocked. I mean, I had said I wasn't into super skinny guys but I hadn't anticipated meeting a pretty chubby dude at the altar. But hey, I know that looks aren't everything, so I was still willing to give it a shot. Read more | 'This is not a gig - it's a statement' - Scorpion Kings prepare to rock Pretoria with world-class show What's been the biggest challenge of being married to a stranger? The most significant challenge when it comes to being married to a stranger is the aspect of discovering their darker side, as well as gaining insight into the reasons behind their continued single status. The polygamy conversation seemed to strike a nerve. What about it triggered that reaction? The polygamy question truly took me aback. I couldn't understand why he would even bring up such a topic. What has being on the show taught you? Being on the show taught me that not everyone is completely honest in their actions and movements. It was a real eye-opener. And what has it taught you about love and relationships? It has taught me the importance of setting healthy boundaries and not allowing others to take advantage of my good nature. I have learned to stand up for myself while still being respectful and considerate of others. Overall, my time on the show has been a valuable learning experience that has helped me grow both personally and professionally. From the episodes that have aired so far, whose journey have you enjoyed watching the most and why? I am truly savouring and relishing the journey of Makoto and Nkululeko. There is something incredibly compelling about focusing on those who are frequently misunderstood or misjudged by society. Their stories and experiences add depth and richness to our understanding of the world, and I find great value in paying close attention to their paths. Especially because I know the show is not scripted. What's your relationship like with the other cast members off-camera? I have conversations with Makoto nearly every day, and I engage in frequent discussions with Nelisa. However, Portia's communication with me is dead. Why do you think people should keep watching your journey on the show? People should watch because the storyline is brimming with potential developments, and one can only anticipate the surprises that await those who remain vigilant and engaged. The road ahead is filled with intrigue and uncertainty.

‘We want Joe!' - Thomas upstages headliner Anthony Hamilton at Women's Day concert
Anthony Hamilton was supposed to be the main headliner at the Women's Day Celebration, however, Joe Thomas' performance was more memorable. Vusi Nova was not being dramatic for losing his cool with the technical team because their mediocrity nearly ruined the entire night. Zonke brought a feminine touch, and fans said they'd pay to see her 10 more times. If performances and energy from music fans were anything to go by, the Women's Day Celebration with Anthony Hamilton, Joe Thomas, Zonke, Sjava and Vusi Nova – held at the Wanderers Cricket Stadium on 9 August – may as well have been renamed to Joe, We Wanna Party. While Hamilton was widely advertised as the main headliner, conducting most of the media interviews, when it came to crunch time, Thomas' performance shone brighter and was more memorable. READ: Watch | 'I Wanna Know' hit maker Joe Thomas promises Gauteng fans a Tuesday night for the ages The concert was not without challenges as the technical team had to pull Thomas off the stage for nearly 20 minutes. This as the Good Girls hitmaker's attempts to serenade the crowd with his guitar skills proved futile as the audience could not hear the strings and occasionally, his mic became inaudible. Vusimuzi Nongxa, popularly known as Vusi Nova, delivered the first performance of the evening. He had initially been perceived as a drama king by some audience members when he lost his cool with the technical team over continuous sound glitches. However, as the glitches persisted through Zonke and Thomas' performances, it became clear that Vusi Nova's outrage had been justified. The technical mishaps reminded me of how paying fans had to endure a similar disappointment during Lauryn Hill's concert, more than a decade ago in 2012, where music lovers experienced delays of nearly 45 minutes due to sound issues. More recently in 2023, Deborah Cox's tour was also marred with similar glitches. Once the system was back up, Thomas melted hearts with his own hits and other R&B favourites, such as Softest Place on Earth by popular girl band Xscape, the timeless Missing You by Case – who collaborated with Thomas in Faded Pictures and Brandy Norwood's Never Say Never. Fears that he was reverting to last year's show when he performed two of the songs from that concert, including Stutter were quickly wiped away by the switch to All The Things and All That I Am hits. Before there was Beyonce's If I Were a Boy and Ciara's Like a Boy, there was Thomas' What If A Woman. Love Scene, I Wanna Know and No One Else Comes Close almost brought some people to tears with the realisation that the R&B crooner with more than 10 albums to his name knew precisely which of his music reverberated with fans in Mzansi. However, the same cannot be said of Hamilton, because while the Charlene hitmaker did eventually deliver that track, sing-alongs were few and far between during his performance. For an artist who performs in this country regularly, reactions to the Grammy Award-winning musician gave the impression that his set was not made for a South African crowd in particular. This may have been unintended on Thomas' part, but Hamilton was certainly upstaged. 'We want Joe,' chants from the crowd filled the stadium on multiple occasions. Vusi Nova connected quite well with the fans, closing off his performance by paying homage to late afro-soul star Bulelwa Mkutukana (also known as Zahara), who passed in December 2023 in a moving delivery of his tribute hit Asiphelelanga. Rose among the thorns, Zonke's feminine touch to the celebration that featured mostly men in music was among the most highly anticipated performances of the evening, with some fans saying they had seen her multiple times before and would pay to see her a few times more.

Top fashion moments from DJ Zinhle's Zee Nation Fest
Thousands flocked to Johannesburg to experience the second instalment of DJ Zinhle's Zee Nation festival for a day of vibrant performances and pink cowgirl fashion on National Women's Day. The vast venue filled with eager concert-goers kept busy with talent like Elaine, Nadia Nakai, Makhadzi, Nkosazana Daughter, Lliema Pantsi and more offering electrifying performances in between entertaining hosting from Moozlie, Zanele Potelwa and more stars. Merchandise stands, charging stations and a new addition of comfortable resting 'Era lounges' added a tailored edge to the event, an ode to its evident popularity. Although Rome wasn't built in a day. DJ Zinhle spoke to TRUELOVE ahead of the festival about what it was going to take to pull off the festival. 'Because last year was successful, I thought this year would be a breeze. Somebody lied to me. Because they said 'Oh, you guys have done it, you guys are just going to flow through the next one'. No, it's been so tough. I mean, I think also everyone can feel the economy is not strong right now, so there were a lot of challenges putting it together so the emotions are high and low. 'But thank God that we are such a unified team, because also when you're doing a festival like this with your friends, tensions get high so you also have to manage that. So, emotionally it's been taxing, it's been hectic but thank God we have one vision,' Zinhle said. Special highlights included Mkahadzi and Sjava's encore-inducing performance and Pearl Thusi bringing her daughter Thando to the stage. Pearl told TRUELOVE, 'It was a special moment because I played Thula Nana... thinking of Thando when she was a little baby crying for me at home because I had to be in the streets to work and to finally be able to take her with me and to bring her while that song is playing is like, I don't know, there's a little bit of closure there I think hopefully for both of us.' Performers, industry friends and the 'besties' on the ground brought fun high fashion to the nippy tail end of Johannesburg's winter, with DJ Zinhle and Moozlie's many wardrobe changes fueling the event's extravagance.
