Police probe video of allegedly drunk North West cop in uniform
The provincial police commissioner ordered the immediate investigation of the allegations, according to police spokesperson Brigadier Sabata Mokgwabone.
'These allegations cannot and should not be taken lightly as they are damaging to the integrity and professional image of the SAPS, further contributing to the trust deficit between the police and the community,' Mokgwabone said.
'It is therefore important that such allegations must be investigated expeditiously which will require the cooperation of all the witnesses.'
Mokgwabone added that police were looking to speak to two members of the Patriotic Alliance and Operation Dudula who had travelled from Gauteng to support the group in Bethanie.
'Efforts have been made by talking to locals to obtain evidence and it has been indicated that the two are the best placed to help unravel the allegations against the police officer,' said Mokgwabone.
'The two possible witnesses are further advised that making and publicising information of such a serious nature without reporting it to the relevant authorities may result in them being charged with defeating or obstructing the course of justice.'
Last month, KwaZulu-Natal police said they would take disciplinary steps against an officer who was captured on video driving a marked police vehicle that had a missing driver's side door.
The video was taken after the police vehicle was involved in an accident with a minibus taxi in Durban North. The driver at the time of the accident was a female warrant officer. She was trapped inside the vehicle and the door had to be removed to rescue her.
Another officer then drove the doorless vehicle to a police station.

Man allegedly attacks West Bloomfield Planet Fitness staff, leads police on chase
A man was arrested Wednesday morning after he allegedly attacked the staff of a Planet Fitness in West Bloomfield Township and later led police on a high-speed chase. West Bloomfield police responded to the Planet Fitness on Orchard Lake Road around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, after a caller reported a man was punching gym staff and charging at them with a metal object, according to police. When officers arrived at the gym parking lot, they found the man in his vehicle. He allegedly attempted to run over an officer, police say, and struck several police cars before leading police on a high-speed chase onto the roadway and into a nearby subdivision. Police say the man resisted officers but was later taken into custody. The suspect and an officer were treated at an area hospital for minor injuries, police said. An investigation is ongoing. Planet Fitness issued the following statement regarding Wednesday's incident: "At Planet Fitness, the safety of our employees, members, and guests is a top priority, and we do not tolerate violence of any kind. The local franchise group is working closely with police in their investigation. As this is an ongoing investigation, we refer any additional inquiries to the appropriate authorities." Man shot, wounded on street in Chicago's West Woodlawn neighborhood
A man was shot and wounded Wednesday afternoon in the West Woodlawn neighborhood on Chicago's South Side. Police said at 4:40 p.m., the 23-year-old man was in the 6000 block of South Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Dr. when two men came up, and one of them took out a handgun and shot him, police said. The victim was struck in the groin area and suffered a graze wound to the leg, police said. A relative of the victim said there had been a social media dispute before the shooting. Crime scene tape was seen a short distance away at a convenience store at 61st Street and Eberhart Avenue. The family member said the man ran into the convenience store after being shot. He was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in good condition. No one was in custody late Wednesday. Wentworth Area detectives are investigating.

11 kids found living in home in deplorable conditions: Police

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – An investigation into two young children found alone at a Youngstown gas station led to a home on the South Side, where 11 children were living in deplorable conditions, police said. Read next: Coroner identifies 3-year-old boy killed in Struthers shooting The 18-month-old and 3-year-old children were found in the 2000 block of South Ave. around 11:20 a.m., and no one called 911 to report a missing child for over an hour, according to a police report. Police then went to a home on East Dewey Avenue, where they found Melissa Kanos, the mother of at least one of the children. Reports said that Kanos thought that the child had only been gone for 10 to 15 minutes, but later admitted that she had last seen the child at 11 a.m. Reports said that agents with Children Services and police entered the home and found animal and possible human feces, urine, and food all over the floors of the home. Police said that 14 people, 11 of them children, were living in the home. Officers described the children, who ranged in age from toddlers to teenagers, as looking as though they hadn't showered in days, with most of the younger ones walking around in overused diapers. Police said that two birds and three dogs were taken to the Animal Charity of Ohio. One of the dogs was malnourished and had sores all over its body, according to police. The house has since been red-tagged, meaning unsafe or unhealthy to occupy. 'Because of the amount of people that were living there, that's what the problem was. They don't have beds and lying on mattresses on the floor and things of that nature,' said Mike Durkin, Youngstown code enforcement officer. 'There were 11 kids and three adults. That's just too many. It was just deplorable from top to bottom,' Durkin said. Situations like this are becoming more common, Durkin explained, and the city is working to address them. 'It's coming to light more. We have more entities, more groups and factions that are going out there and checking it out,' Durkin said. Kanos was charged with five counts of endangering children, first-degree misdemeanors. She is due back in court later this month, along with two other adults in the house who received citations. Several of the older children are now with neighbors or relatives. The rest are in the care of Children's Services. No decision's been made on what will ultimately happen to the house.
