Dubai Airports Scales Up Autism-Inclusive Training, Setting Global Benchmark in Accessible Travel

Hi Dubai10-04-2025
Dubai Airports has significantly expanded its autism-inclusive training programme, now equipping 45,000 employees across Dubai International (DXB) and Dubai World Central (DWC) to better support autistic and sensory-sensitive travellers.
This initiative reinforces Dubai's broader vision of becoming a Certified Autism Destination (CAD).
DXB holds the distinction of being the world's first international airport to receive the Certified Autism Centre (CAC) designation from the International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards (IBCCES), in addition to certification by the Dubai Autism Centre (DAC).
The enhanced training programme, which reflects a 36% increase in specialist training year-on-year, forms a key pillar of Dubai Airports' strategy to ensure an inclusive and supportive airport experience. Employees are trained in sensory awareness, effective communication, and anxiety-reduction techniques to create a smoother journey for neurodiverse travellers. 'True inclusion starts with people,'
said Majed Al Joker, Chief Operating Officer at Dubai Airports. 'Our airports are Dubai's gateways to the world. It's our responsibility to ensure every guest feels welcomed, supported, and included.'
The IBCCES-accredited training spans a wide airport community, including partners like Dubai Police, Dubai Customs, Emirates, flydubai, dnata, and Dubai Taxi Company. Trained Guest Experience Ambassadors, identifiable by Sunflower pins, are stationed at key points across both airports to assist autistic guests and their families.
Supporting measures include priority lanes via the Sunflower Lanyard, the DXB Travel Planner for pre-journey preparation, sensory-friendly lounges, and autism-friendly routes throughout the terminals. During Autism Acceptance Month, blue-lit Smart Gates and terminal displays of sunflowers further demonstrate solidarity with the autism community.
Dubai Airports continues to set the standard for accessible travel, making inclusivity not just a commitment—but a cornerstone of the travel experience.

Dubai Airport Rolls Out AI Corridor for Fast Immigration

Dubai International Airport (DXB) just leveled up travel. Its brand-new AI-powered corridor lets up to 10 people breeze through immigration at once—no stopping, no showing passports. How It Works The system recognizes passenger data before you even hit the border gate. That means faster checks, fewer lines, and a smoother airport run. It even flags suspicious passports automatically, sending them straight to forgery experts. First of Its Kind Officials say this is the world's first service of its kind, built for the 'boundless travel' experience Dubai wants to lead. With DXB already the busiest international airport in 2024, this upgrade doubles capacity and slashes wait times. Travelers Love It Passengers are already raving. Families say the trip feels smoother and way faster, while others credit Dubai for using smart tech to cut delays and congestion. The vibe? Less waiting, more flying.

Back to school travel tips to beat the rush at Dubai Airport

Over 3.6 million passengers are expected between 13 and 25 August, with around 280,000 travellers each day with the back to school rush. Here's how to make your journey smoother. Use Smart Gates If you are a UAE resident, Smart Gates let you pass through immigration quickly. These automated gates use your biometrics for fast, seamless processing, so lines are shorter and waiting times are minimal. Repeat travellers may already have biometrics recorded. Check your eligibility at GDRFA. Parking can get busy if you're picking someone up. There are no free pick-up zones, so use the car parks: Terminal 1: Car Park A (Premium): Dhs30 for 30 mins, Dhs40 for 2 hours Car Park B (Economy): Dhs25 for 1 hour Terminal 3: Dhs30 for 30 mins, Dhs40 for 2 hours on all levels Getting around Taxis: Available at DXB, but lines can be long. Pre-book through Careem, Uber, or Bolt. Starting fare: Dhs25. Metro: Red Line connects Terminals 1 and 3 to the city. Only 2 suitcases per passenger. Baggage limits: 1 large (81×58×30 cm), 1 small (55×38×20 cm). You will need a nol card, which is available at the station. Metro timings: Monday to Thursday: 5am to midnight Friday: 5am to 1am Saturday: 5am to midnight Sunday: 8am to midnight Hand luggage and security Dubai airport authorities have strict regulations on what you can carry in your cabin baggage, including liquids, electronics, power banks, and even certain personal items. Here's what you need to know. Declaring cash and valuables If you carry cash, jewellery, or valuables over Dhs60,000, you must declare them. Use the Afseh platform: or the Afseh app. Make travel easier Arrive early: at least 3 hours before your flight. Check in online: save time and pick your seat in advance. Keep documents ready: passport, boarding pass, and ID. Travel light: carry only essentials to speed up security. Stay hydrated and snack smart: bring a refillable water bottle (empty before security) and small snacks. Use the DXB Airport app: track flights, terminal maps, and lounges. Follow signs: smart Gates, baggage claim, and gates to save walking time. Plan transportation: know if you're taking a taxi, metro, or private car. Keep kids entertained: books, tablets, or games help during long queues. Be patient: queues are unavoidable, so give yourself extra time.
