‘Why is Punjab being remote-controlled from Delhi?' asks Bajwa; it seems the AAP leadership wants to expedite the loot of Punjab: SAD

Indian Express05-06-2025
The appointment of Aam Aadmi Party leader Shaleen Mitra, an Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to former Delhi Cabinet Minister Satyender Jain, as an OSD to Punjab Health Minister Dr Balbir Singh has sparked a row in the state, with the Opposition Congress accusing Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann of 'surrendering Punjab to the Delhi leadership'., while the ruling AAP leaders hitting back at the Congress, reminding them of their CM Amarinder Singh's 'handing over the state' to strategist Prashant Kishor.
Mitra's appointment as an OSD to the Punjab health minister came amid a row that many leaders from the AAP Delhi were saddled in important positions in Punjab, especially after the party's defeat in the Delhi Assembly elections. A photograph of Mitra sitting with Dr Balbir Singh in a meeting went viral on Wednesday.
Leader of the Opposition in Punjab Partap Singh Bajwa took to X, 'AAP govt appoints Delhi neta Satyendar Jain's PA Shaleen Mitra as OSD to Punjab Cabinet Minister Dr Balbir Singh. Why is Punjab being remote-controlled from Delhi? Jobs for Punjabis or rewards for Delhi aides? @BhagwantMann surrendered Punjab to Delhi wallas.'

Congress leader Sukhpal Khaira posted the appointment letter of Mitra on X, saying, 'This is how @ArvindKejriwal is remote controlling Punjab government! Below is the appointment of Shaleen Mitra as OSD to Health Minister @AAPbalbir! -@ArvindKejriwal has slow by slow captured all vital positions in Punjab and @BhagwantMann is just a 'Dummy' Cm has been kept to tell jokes, dance around, cut ribbons, enjoy his security and cavalcade of cars !'

However, AAP leaders hit back at the Opposition, for the first time, on the issue of accommodating Delhi leaders in the Punjab government's posts.
Finance Minister Harpal Cheema posted on X, 'Wasn't Prashant Kishor's appointment as Chief Advisor to CM a blow to 'Punjab's Pride'? An outsider was handed reins with no accountability, no questions then. @Partap_Sbajwa is now crying foul over an OSD which is pure hypocrisy. AAP is here to deliver, not outsource governance.'
AAP spokesperson Neel Garg, too, joined the chorus, 'When @INCIndia made Prashant Kishor the de-facto CM of Punjab, not a single question was raised. No accountability. No protest. Silence from @Partap_Sbajwa. Arusa Alam a Pakistani agent had free access to the CM Office under Congress rule — no files moved without her 'approval'. Bhupesh Baghel, Congress leader of Chhattisgarh is Punjab's Congress Prabhari — a clear message that Punjab Congress is on remote control. This is not about governance. This is about Congress' entitlement. #AAP is not Congress. We don't outsource Punjab, we empower Punjabis. We are building systems, not sycophancy.'
Shiromani Akali Dal also jumped onto the bandwagon, hitting at AAP. The party wrote on its X handle, 'Another shocking development. Jailed Delhi Aam Aadmi Party minister Satyendra Jain's OSD Shaleen Mitra will now be OSD to the Punjab Health minister. This effectively means this ministry has also been taken over by the corrupt AAP leadership of Delhi. It seems the AAP leadership wants to expedite the loot of Punjab, knowing well that its countdown to being ousted from power has started. The Shiromani Akali Dal is committed to unmasking and punishing each & every corrupt deed once it assumes power in the State.'

Congress workers protest against Centres onion export policy

Agency: PTI Last Updated: Nashik, Aug 13 (PTI) Congress activists demonstrated against the Union government's onion export policy on Wednesday and marched to the NAFED office in Nashik. Congress demanded a Rs 3,000 per quintal price for onions, open auction purchase of onions in Nashik district and the state and an inquiry into the purchase of onions directly from traders by NAFED. Former minister Balasaheb Thorat, who led the march, alleged that NAFED and other Central organisations are promoting corruption in onion purchase. 'Instead of purchasing onions from farmers, NAFED purchased the crop from traders who had stored it," he alleged and demanded an investigation. Thorat alleged that the Mahayuti government is securing the welfare of the rich. view comments First Published: August 13, 2025, 22:45 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Cong prepares for Rahul's yatra, evades question on oppn CM face

Patna: Congress members on Wednesday reviewed the preparations for their leader Rahul Gandhi's 'Vote Adhikar Yatra' in Bihar, which will start from Sasaram on Aug 17, and cover at least 23 districts and 50 assembly seats in Shahabad, Magadh, Kosi, Seemanchal, Mithila, Tirhut and Saran regions. RJD leader Tejashwi Prasad Yadav is also scheduled to join the yatra, even as the Congress functionaries were not yet ready to name him the opposition CM face in the coming Bihar assembly elections. After the review meeting attended by the Congress MPs and MLAs, and addressed by national general secretary (organisation) K C Venugopal, in charge of the party in Bihar, Krishna Allavaru, said the people of the state and elected MLAs will decide the CM face of the INDI Alliance. Asked about Yadav as the CM face, Allavaru said, "Ask this question to the people of Bihar. They will answer you who will be the next chief minister of Bihar." Venugopal said the special intensive revision of the Bihar electoral rolls is anti-democratic. "The opposition will demonstrate its unity against the Election Commission move through this yatra, which not only Rahul, but leader of opposition in Bihar, Tejashwi and others will join," he said. Rahul Gandhi's lawyer raised 'threat to his life' issue without his consent: Congress

The Congress on Wednesday said Rahul Gandhi's lawyer raised the issue of threat to his life without his consent and will take back the statement in court on Thursday. Rahul Gandhi's lawyer said that he will "file a formal application tomorrow for withdrawal of the said Pursis" before the Pune court. (PTI File) An application, filed before Judicial Magistrate (First Class) Amol Shinde in Pune by Gandhi's lawyer Milind Pawar, said that Gandhi could face harm from the followers of the ideology of Vinayak Damodar Savarkar and Nathuram Godse, and providing "preventive protection" is the state's constitutional obligation. Congress' media and publicity department head Pawan Khera said Gandhi's lawyer raised the issue of threat to his life in the court without his consent. "Mr Gandhi has strong objection to this and tomorrow his lawyer will take back this statement in court," Khera said in a post on X. He also shared a press release by the lawyer which said "the Pursis dated 13.08.2025 was filed by me in the Court without Instructions from the client". "The contents of the Pursis were drafted by me without consulting my client Shri. Rahul Gandhi. My client has taken strong exception to filing of this Pursis dated 13.08.2025 and has expressed his disagreement with the contents of the Pursis," Pawar said. "I shall file a formal application tomorrow for withdrawal of the said Pursis before the Hon'ble Court," he said. The case, the trial of which is yet to start, pertains to certain comments allegedly made by Gandhi against V D Savarkar, freedom fighter and Hindutva ideologue. The application said that complainant Satyaki Savarkar had admitted that he is also a direct descendant, through maternal lineage, of Nathuram Godse and Gopal Godse, principal accused in the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi. Rahul Gandhi is the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha and recently held a press conference in New Delhi, placing before the nation evidence of "electoral fraud" by the Election Commission, the application said. Gandhi also staged a protest in the Parliament complex, raising slogans such as "vote chor sarkar". "In light of the documented history of violent and anti-constitutional tendencies linked to the complainant's lineage, and considering the prevailing political climate, there exists a clear, reasonable, and substantial apprehension that Rahul Gandhi may face harm, wrongful implication, or other forms of targeting by persons subscribing to the ideology of Vinayak Damodar Savarkar," the application stated. "In such circumstances, preventive protection is not only prudent but is a constitutional obligation upon the state," it added. Advocate Pawar had said earlier this 'Pursis' or application was submitted as a precautionary measure with the objective of "legally safeguarding the fairness, integrity, and transparency of the present proceedings".
