Indian equity MF inflows soar to record high in July
Net flows into equity schemes rose 81% month-on-month to 427.02 billion rupees ($4.9 billion) in July, data from the Association of Mutual Funds in India (AMFI) showed.
Overall, assets under management in the MF industry hit a record high at 75.36 trillion rupees.
Contributions via systematic investment plans (SIPs) – a popular periodic investment route for MF investors - rose to a record 284.64 billion rupees. The number of contributing SIP accounts also climbed to 91.1 million from 86.4 million in June.
'Intermittent market corrections on the back of tariff war with the U.S. as well as ongoing geopolitical tension offered investors attractive entry points,' said Himanshu Srivastava, principal, manager research at Morningstar Investment Research.
Equity MFs saw inflows for the 53rd month in a row, even as foreign investors pulled out $2 billion from the stock market in July on lingering uncertainty about a U.S.-India trade deal and worries over another quarter of weak earnings.
Indian rupee ends flat as importer dollar demand offsets early gains
These inflows helped the benchmark stock indexes trim their losses. The Nifty fell 2.9% last month, with small-caps and mid-caps sliding 5.8% and 3.9%, respectively.
Large-cap funds attracted 21.25 billion rupees, up 25.5% from June, while mid-cap allocations rose 38% to 51.82 billion rupees and small-cap inflows jumped 61% to 64.84 billion rupees.
'The rise in mid-cap, small-cap, and sectoral fund participation signals a growing appetite for diversified growth,' said A Balasubramanian, MD and CEO at Aditya Birla Sun Life AMC.
'It's a testament to the maturity of Indian market in a heightened period of uncertainty.'
Inflows into Gold Exchange and Silver Exchange Traded Funds were at 12.56 billion rupees and 19.04 billion rupees, respectively.

Domino's India operator beats quarterly profit view on strong delivery demand
Domino's India operator Jubilant Foodworks beat first-quarter profit estimates by a wide margin on Wednesday as lower-priced menu items and free deliveries bolstered demand even as other fast-food franchisees struggled. The company reported profit of 917.6 million rupees ($10.49 million) for the quarter ended June 30, compared to a year ago profit of 558 million rupees. Analysts on average were expecting a profit of 645.6 million rupees, according to data compiled by LSEG. Urban Indian consumers are cutting back on non-essentials amid high living costs, denting same-store sales at budget retailers like Trent and fast food chains including Pizza Hut operators Sapphire India and Devyani International. Jubilant is an outlier in this environment, having reported double digit like-for-like sales growth for atleast three quarters. In the reported quarter ended June, like for like sales at Domino's India restaurants grew 11.6%, led by 20.1% growth in delivery. India's Muthoot Finance beats quarterly profit view on strong loan growth Sapphire's same store sales at Pizza Hut India fell 8% in the same period, while Devyani's fell 4.2%. Jubilant has not raised prices on average in more than ten quarters, opting to cut costs to drive profitability. In addition to providing value combinations and expanding store count, it has also waived delivery fees on app orders, while sharpening its focus on 20-minute deliveries in dense metros. Rival Devyani, on Wednesday, said it is taking cues from Jubilant's success with its 20-minute delivery model, and strengthening its own food-delivery business. 'Jubilant is doing a far, far better job versus what we are it is a delivery first brand,' a Devyani executive said on a post-earnings call with analysts. Jubilant's efforts drove first quarter revenue higher by 17%to 22.61 billion rupees. However, its consolidated core profit margin contracted to 19.4% from 19.8%, due to a higher mix of delivery and investments to power sales growth.

India's Muthoot Finance beats quarterly profit view on strong loan growth
BENGALURU: Indian gold loan financier Muthoot Finance reported a bigger-than-expected 90% surge in first-quarter profit on Wednesday, aided by higher loan demand as prices of the precious metal soared. Muthoot Finance reported a profit of 20.46 billion rupees ($233.91 million) for the April-June quarter, above analysts' estimate of 16.24 billion rupees, per data compiled by LSEG. Gold prices hit multiple record highs during the quarter. This benefits gold financiers as higher prices increase the collateral value, allowing borrowers to secure larger loans for the same amount of gold. Additionally, tighter lending in the unsecured segment prompted people to shift to gold loans as an alternative source of funds, analysts said. Muthoot Finance's standalone loan assets under management rose 42% year-on-year to 1.2 trillion rupees at the end of the quarter, and interest income jumped about 53% to 55.92 billion rupees. 'We are well-positioned to sustain strong growth through fiscal 2026 and beyond,' Managing Director George Alexander Muthoot said in a statement. The company also approved equity infusion of 5 billion rupees and 2 billion rupees in its units, Muthoot Money and Muthoot Homefin, respectively.

Indian shares track global rally on US rate cut hopes
Indian shares rose on Wednesday, tracking a global rally, as mild U.S. inflation data boosted rate cut hopes and lifted appetite for riskier assets, while easing domestic inflation and gains in Apollo Hospitals and Hindalco added support. The Nifty 50 rose 0.54% to 24,619.35, while the BSE Sensex gained 0.38% to 80,539.91. Twelve of the 16 major sectors ended higher, while the broader small- and mid-caps rose 0.7% and 0.6%, respectively. U.S. consumer prices rose 0.2% month-on-month in July, increasing the chances of a Federal Reserve rate cut in September to 94% from 86% a day earlier. 'Hopes of a Fed rate cut are driving risk assets globally and has brought some relief to Indian markets, which have been weighed down by tariffs and muted quarterly earnings,' said Shrikant Chouhan, executive vice president and head of equity research at Kotak Securities. Lower U.S. rates typically depress Treasury yields and the dollar, making emerging market equities, such as India's, more appealing to foreign investors. Asian and European markets also gained, with the MSCI Asia ex-Japan index up 1.6%. Indian benchmarks were also aided on Wednesday by domestic retail inflation easing to an eight-year low in July. India's stock benchmarks inch lower ahead of inflation data All eyes are now on scheduled talks between the U.S. and Russian presidents on Friday for on a resolution to the Ukraine war. The outcome could help ease U.S. trade frictions with New Delhi after Washington doubled tariffs on Indian goods over Russian oil imports. Chouhan noted that tariff certainty and signs of corporate earnings recovery are important for Indian equities to sustain gains. Among stocks, Apollo Hospitals rose 7.9% and Hindalco added 5% after their earnings. Both stocks were the top two percentage gainers on the Nifty. Beauty retailer Nykaa jumped 5.1% after a two-fold surge in profit, while Paytm gained 3.1% after its payments arm secured in-principle RBI approval to operate as an online payments aggregator.
