Jets place DE Jermaine Johnson on active/PUP
Johnson tore his right Achilles in a Week 2 game against the Titans, but he is expected to be ready for the 2025 season opener.
He gave an update after the Jets announced their pre-camp transactions.
'I will be on PUP because the team wants to move slow to be safe, which I agree with. Not because I'm not ready. All is well,' Johnson wrote on social media.
Johnson, the 26th overall pick in 2022, earned Pro Bowl honors in 2023 when he totaled 7.5 sacks, 55 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, 16 quarterback hits and an interception that he returned for a touchdown.
The Jets also placed wide receiver Irvin Charles on the active/PUP list.
Charles, a core special teams player, tore an ACL on a punt-coverage snap against the Dolphins last December. At that time, his five tackles on special teams tied for team lead.
Rookie linebacker Aaron Smith received an active/non-football injury/illness designation. His injury or illness is undisclosed.
The South Carolina State product signed with the Jets as an undrafted free agent in April after leading the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference with 92 tackles in 2024.

Before the Dallas Cowboys had their newly formed receiver duo of Ceedee Lamb and George Pickens, Amari Cooper was a key piece for them on the outside. With the start of the 2025 season just around the corner, one AFC contender has been tossed out as a possible landing spot for the five-time Pro Bowler. Cooper arrived in Dallas in 2018 via trade with the then-Oakland Raiders. He quickly built a strong connection with Dak Prescott, resulting in him putting up some of the best numbers of his NFL career. He racked up multiple 1,000-yard seasons in Dallas, along with landing Pro Bowl honors in 2019. Since the Cowboys traded Cooper in 2021, he's had stints with the Cleveland Browns and Buffalo Bills. However, with training camp set to begin this week, he remains on the free agent market. While breaking down the best NFL players still available, Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox touched on the Pittsburgh Steelers being a team that could pursue him. Across 14 appearances for the Browns and Bills, he totaled just 547 yards and four touchdowns. That said, he isn't far removed from being a highly productive receiver. Back in 2023, Cooper landed Pro-Bowl honors after notching 1,250 yards and five touchdowns for the Browns. After signing Aaron Rodgers in the offseason, the Steelers are all in on making a run at a Super Bowl this season. Taking a flier on Cooper would give the four-time MVP an array of established veterans to throw to between him, DK Metcalf, and Robert Woods. Lamb has established himself as one of the top players at his position, and now has a viable threat alongside him again. Julian Edelman caught giving direct advice to one Patriots rookie
New England Patriots receiving legend Julian Edelman gave some tips to rookie wideout Kyle Williams when visiting during a team practice over the spring. Williams is a talented prospect who has received praise throughout the offseason. Former five-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Steve Smith Sr. even went as far as tweeting out that Patriots fans "got a real one" with the third-round draft pick. There is hope that he can make an impact on Day 1, serving as one of the team's top receiving options. No one knows about being a top receiving option in New England better than Edelman, who caught 620 passes for 6,822 yards and 36 touchdowns over a career that spanned 11 years. He initially came into the league as a former quarterback at Kent State and worked his way up to becoming one of Tom Brady's most reliable receiving targets. The former longtime Patriot was caught sharing the things he's learned with Williams during the most recent episode of the Forged in Foxborough docuseries. 'I just always leaned on like preparation. If I dropped a ball, I'd go catch 500 balls before or after practice until I didn't drop a ball," Edelman told Williams. Williams has the potential to be a productive receiver for the Patriots. His athleticism and ability to run after the catch make him a viable option to contribute in his first year. He was also viewed as one of the best pure separators in the 2025 NFL draft class.
