Jets place DE Jermaine Johnson on active/PUP

NBC Sports2 days ago
The Jets placed edge rusher Jermaine Johnson on the active/physically unable to perform list Saturday, the team announced.
Johnson tore his right Achilles in a Week 2 game against the Titans, but he is expected to be ready for the 2025 season opener.
He gave an update after the Jets announced their pre-camp transactions.
'I will be on PUP because the team wants to move slow to be safe, which I agree with. Not because I'm not ready. All is well,' Johnson wrote on social media.
Johnson, the 26th overall pick in 2022, earned Pro Bowl honors in 2023 when he totaled 7.5 sacks, 55 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, 16 quarterback hits and an interception that he returned for a touchdown.
The Jets also placed wide receiver Irvin Charles on the active/PUP list.
Charles, a core special teams player, tore an ACL on a punt-coverage snap against the Dolphins last December. At that time, his five tackles on special teams tied for team lead.
Rookie linebacker Aaron Smith received an active/non-football injury/illness designation. His injury or illness is undisclosed.
The South Carolina State product signed with the Jets as an undrafted free agent in April after leading the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference with 92 tackles in 2024.

Which New Orleans Saints players are returning from injury to start training camp?

The New Orleans Saints have been a team that has suffered an exceptional number of injuries over the course of the last five years or so. Unfortunately, this has somewhat pushed the team back in terms of their ceiling, and that was seen to an extent in 2024 when the Saints' offense was unstoppable through two weeks, and then when Pro Bowl center Erik McCoy went down, it all came crashing back to earth. The good news is, the team is getting quite a bit younger on average and healthier over the course of the offseason. Many of the players who ended 2024 injured are ready or growing close to being ready for 2025. So with that in mind, let's take a look at which players ended 2024 injured, who is ready from that bunch, and who is still recovering. Which players ended the 2024 NFL season with injuries? The list of players who were injured during Week 18 of last season is as follows (only including those who are still on the team): A few Saints players came off their respective injuries before the last week of the season, including Tanoh Kpassagnon and Bub Means. Additionally, many of their players who suffered setbacks have left the team, such as Pauslon Adebo, Derek Carr, Justin Herron, Lucas Patrick, and Camron Peterson. Who among those injured at the end of last season participated at minicamp? The players who were not listed as inactive for the last day of mandatory minicamp are as follows: Who still remained out as of the last full minicamp practice? As of the last full day of 2025 minicamps, which ran from June 10 to June 11 (the last session was cancelled after rookie quarterback Hunter Dekkers won the team a day at the driving range), here are the players who remain off the field and their respective setbacks: All told, the Saints expect to have most hands on deck when they regroup for training camp. Players will report for work and go through the conditioning test on Tuesday and a handful of them could open camp on the physically unable to perform list (PUP), but that normally isn't a big deal. They can be activated at any time. Last year's starting lineup and this spring's rookie draft class are all expected to be available for the first practice session in front of fans on Wednesday, July 23.

Steelers Named Possible Landing Spot for Ex-Cowboys Wide Receiver

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Before the Dallas Cowboys had their newly formed receiver duo of Ceedee Lamb and George Pickens, Amari Cooper was a key piece for them on the outside. With the start of the 2025 season just around the corner, one AFC contender has been tossed out as a possible landing spot for the five-time Pro Bowler. Cooper arrived in Dallas in 2018 via trade with the then-Oakland Raiders. He quickly built a strong connection with Dak Prescott, resulting in him putting up some of the best numbers of his NFL career. He racked up multiple 1,000-yard seasons in Dallas, along with landing Pro Bowl honors in 2019. Since the Cowboys traded Cooper in 2021, he's had stints with the Cleveland Browns and Buffalo Bills. However, with training camp set to begin this week, he remains on the free agent market. While breaking down the best NFL players still available, Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox touched on the Pittsburgh Steelers being a team that could pursue him. More Also read: Cowboys Standouts Named Among NFL's Top Homegrown Duos "Cooper would be a sensible target for the Pittsburgh Steelers, who are going all-in on the 2025 season with quarterback Aaron Rodgers," Knox wrote. "Pittsburgh acquired wideout DK Metcalf early in the offseason but also traded receiver George Pickens after the draft." Cooper, 31, is coming off a down year in 2024. Across 14 appearances for the Browns and Bills, he totaled just 547 yards and four touchdowns. That said, he isn't far removed from being a highly productive receiver. Back in 2023, Cooper landed Pro-Bowl honors after notching 1,250 yards and five touchdowns for the Browns. After signing Aaron Rodgers in the offseason, the Steelers are all in on making a run at a Super Bowl this season. Taking a flier on Cooper would give the four-time MVP an array of established veterans to throw to between him, DK Metcalf, and Robert Woods. Lamb has established himself as one of the top players at his position, and now has a viable threat alongside him again. Heading into a contract year, Pickens will be looking to put all the off-field drama behind him and prove he can be a productive contributor on a good team. Given his track record in the NFL, it's likely a team rolls the dice on Cooper at some point this year. For more Dallas Cowboys and NFL news, head over to Newsweek Sports.

Julian Edelman caught giving direct advice to one Patriots rookie

New England Patriots receiving legend Julian Edelman gave some tips to rookie wideout Kyle Williams when visiting during a team practice over the spring. Williams is a talented prospect who has received praise throughout the offseason. Former five-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Steve Smith Sr. even went as far as tweeting out that Patriots fans "got a real one" with the third-round draft pick. There is hope that he can make an impact on Day 1, serving as one of the team's top receiving options. No one knows about being a top receiving option in New England better than Edelman, who caught 620 passes for 6,822 yards and 36 touchdowns over a career that spanned 11 years. He initially came into the league as a former quarterback at Kent State and worked his way up to becoming one of Tom Brady's most reliable receiving targets. The former longtime Patriot was caught sharing the things he's learned with Williams during the most recent episode of the Forged in Foxborough docuseries. 'I just always leaned on like preparation. If I dropped a ball, I'd go catch 500 balls before or after practice until I didn't drop a ball," Edelman told Williams. Williams has the potential to be a productive receiver for the Patriots. His athleticism and ability to run after the catch make him a viable option to contribute in his first year. He was also viewed as one of the best pure separators in the 2025 NFL draft class. Taking advice from a soon-to-be Patriots Hall of Famer isn't a bad place to start for the former Washington State standout. Follow Patriots Wire on Twitter and Facebook.
