Etihad Airways accelerates growth with record aircraft deliveries
ABU DHABI (ALETIHAD)Etihad Airways achieved a significant milestone in its fleet expansion programme with July 2025 becoming the busiest month for aircraft deliveries in the airline's 22-year history. Throughout July, Etihad took delivery of five aircraft including its inaugural A321LR, two Boeing 787 Dreamliners, one Airbus A350-1000, and one Airbus A320ceo.This record-breaking month demonstrates the airline's commitment to rapid growth as it works towards its target to carry 38 million passengers annually by 2030. The five aircraft will significantly enhance Etihad's capacity across its expanding global network.Antonoaldo Neves, Chief Executive Officer of Etihad Airways, said: "July has been a remarkable month for Etihad Airways. These aircraft will enable us to serve more destinations, offer increased frequencies, and deliver the exceptional experiences our guests expect across our network."The delivery programme reflects Etihad's strategic approach to fleet modernisation, with each aircraft type serving specific network requirements. The Boeing 787 Dreamliner will support long-haul operations to destinations across Asia, Australia, and North America, while the Airbus A350-1000 will enhance capacity on high-demand routes. A particular highlight of July's deliveries was Etihad's first Airbus A321LR, which represents a significant milestone as the airline's inaugural aircraft of this type. Etihad defines luxury again with a revolutionary cabin configuration to Etihad's narrowbody operations, featuring dedicated First Suites alongside lie-flat Business seats, a first for narrowbody aircraft in the region, and enhanced Economy seating with seatback entertainment - bringing premium in-flight experiences to medium and short-haul routes. The deliveries bring Etihad's total fleet to 106 aircraft. The airline operates one of the world's youngest fleets, with an average aircraft age of 8.7 years, supporting operational efficiency and enhanced passenger experience.The aircraft deliveries support Etihad's recently announced network expansion, which includes 27 new destinations and increased frequencies across existing routes. The airline has experienced remarkable growth, carrying more than 20 million passengers in the last 12 months for the first time in its history, doubling passenger numbers from 2022 levels.Etihad's fleet expansion programme continues beyond July, with 20 additional aircraft per annum expected for delivery throughout 2025 and 2026.

More woes for Boeing as workers in fighter jets plant go on strike
Boeing seems to stumble from one trouble to another. After having issues with its commercial aircraft, followed by a space trip that was called off and left the two astronauts in the International Space Station, it's the turn of the workers who build their fighter jets. Nearly 3,200 of them at Boeing facilities in St. Louis, St. Charles, and Mascoutah have gone on strike from midnight of Monday after voting to reject a new four-year labour agreement with the company. Last year, 33,000 workers from its commercial unit went on a strike for 53 days. The union there agreed to a four-year, 38 per cent wage hike. Boeing faces another labour strike The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers union said 'enough is enough' and overwhelmingly voted against a proposed contract last week that included a 20 per cent wage increase over four years. In a statement, Sam Cicinelli, Midwest territory general vice president for the union, said: 'IAM District 837 members build the aircraft and defense systems that keep our country safe. They deserve nothing less than a contract that keeps their families secure and recognises their unmatched expertise.' The existing contract was to expire at 11:59 PM CT last Sunday, but there was a 'cooling off' period of one week. The union leaders had recommended approving the earlier offer, saying it would improve medical, pension and overtime benefits. Dan Gillian, Boeing Air Dominance vice president and general manager, and senior St. Louis site executive, said: 'We're disappointed our employees rejected an offer that featured 40 per cent average wage growth and resolved their primary issue on alternative work schedules. 'We are prepared for a strike and have fully implemented our contingency plan to ensure our non-striking workforce can continue supporting our customers.' The vote came two days before Boeing planned to announce its second-quarter earnings, after saying earlier this month that it had delivered 150 commercial airliners and 36 military aircraft and helicopters during the quarter, up from 130 and 26 during the first quarter. Boeing narrowed its loss to US$611 million, compared to US$1.44 billion a year earlier and improved revenue to US$22.75 billion from US$16.87 billion. After two Boeing 737 Max planes crashed in Indonesia (2018) and Ethiopia (2019), a Dreamliner operated by Air India met with the same fate shortly after taking off in Ahmedabad, killing at least 260 people on board and ground.

UAE flights: Emirates announces new daily flight to London
Emirates has announced a fourth daily flight between Dubai and London Gatwick from February 8, 2026. This new service will be operated by the airline's newest aircraft, the Airbus A350. UAE's flagship carrier operates 140 flights to eight destinations in the UK: London Gatwick, London Heathrow, London Stansted, Manchester, Birmingham, Newcastle, Glasgow and Edinburgh. The new flight is the second Emirates route operated by the Airbus A350 in the UK, after Edinburgh. It brings the total number of Emirates flights between Dubai and London to 12 across three airports. This flight will be the last service of the day between the two major hubs. The Emirates flight EK069 will depart Dubai at 5.05pm and arrive at London Gatwick at 8.50pm. The return flight, EK070, will leave London Gatwick at 11.55pm and will land in Dubai at 11am. According to Emirates, these timings will allow visitors to the UAE to make full use of their travel days. Passengers can check in to their hotels and begin their business meetings as soon as they land in Dubai. While departing, the evening flight timing gives travellers an extra day in the city. This flight will have three classes: Economy, Premium Economy and Business.
