Clarkson's Farm star Harriet Cowan claims she is 'not making any money' despite show
Clarkson's Farm star Harriet Cowan has revealed the harsh realities of farming as she admitted to not making any money from it. The 24-year-old won over fans when she stepped in for Kaleb Cooper on the latest series of Jeremy Clarkson's show.
His hit Amazon Prime Video documentary series sees the former Top Gear host try make a living on his Diddly Squat farm. Due to Jeremy's lack of expertise in farming, he relies on Kaleb for all the tips and tricks of the trade.
However, as Kaleb's own career has picked up since appearing on the show, Jeremy was left without a hand when he headed on his UK tour.
Harriet stepped up to the job, with many wishing for her return to screens. She has become her own star on social media thanks to her TikToks dancing in her tractor.
Her main source of income comes from farming, having grown up on her grandad's livestock farm. Yet, Harriet revealed the industry has little financial gain for her family as it has become a lifestyle over a business.
"We cannot reiterate how important this is for us, that we don't do this because it's going to make us money," she said on BBC's Farmwatch. "Because probably 90% of farms do not make money from the farm, I know I don't."
The Great British Bake Off's Mike Wilkins, who appeared on the show with Harriet, added it was because farmers don't pay themselves, as money gets put back into the farm.
"We just work for free seven days a week, and it becomes such a lonely, lonely place," Harriet shared. Mike added: "Profitability is so under pressure. Most farms aren't making any money, and people really are doing it because it's their lifestyle."
Harriet's journey onto Clarkson's Farm kicked off thanks to social media when she was contacted by the production team. Speaking to the Sunday Times, Harriet explained: "Charlie (Ireland, Clarkson's land agent) let me know they were looking for someone to come and help.
"I think they were keen for it to be a woman who could do that role and show they could do it well." She also shared her first impressions of Jeremy, confessing she wasn't particularly acquainted with his previous work, though she'd certainly heard his name.
Harriet confessed she wasn't "really into the cars" and described Jeremy as being "very much like every other farmer I've ever met". In a particularly cheeky observation, she quipped: "He's got the physique of a farmer."
The young farmer also has another very impressive career as she works as a nurse. Harriet chose dual career paths after becoming inspired by her parents. Her mother, a nurse, hoped she would follow in her footsteps, whereas her father manages the family farm.
After graduating from the University of Derby in 2023, Harriet now juggles full-time nursing with helping out on the farm, using social media to shed light on the realities of farm life.

More info Viewers of Gardeners' World were moved to tears by the poignant tale of Steve, a professional inventor, and his wife Pippa, who have a windmill in their garden. Their captivating story of restoring the windmill was overshadowed by the heartrending revelation that Steve has been diagnosed with terminal cancer, leaving him uncertain whether he has "two months or two years, possibly" left. Despite this, Steve's indomitable spirit remains intact as he views his diagnosis as a "new challenge". BBC audiences were deeply touched by the segment. One viewer posted on X: "Stunning cottage-type garden with Windmill a bonus and unique. Typical Cancer comes along for the bloke who still wants to finish the Windmill. During a recent episode of Gardeners' World, Monty Don informed BBC viewers that his garden has been struggling with the dry weather. The seasoned gardener, aged 70, shared with audiences that the lack of rain has negatively impacted some of his plants and vegetables. He emphasised the importance of watering for vegetables, stating, "water is essential" and noted, "What you water and when is key." Monty highlighted that his outdoor tomatoes were faring well despite the arid conditions. He mentioned that he waters them once a week and pointed out that the tomatoes "like the heat and they're not suffering." Conversely, his broad beans told a different tale. Monty revealed that he's never had to water them before, but this year they've struggled due to the summer's dry spell.

Prince Harry's sour rift with William poses awkward dilemma as big royal event looms
It could be in the near future that the Royal Family will get to enjoy a very happy event - but it could prove awkward for warring brothers Prince William and Prince Harry A royal wedding is seemingly on the cards after a much-loved member of the family announced he is engaged. Princess Anne's son Peter Phillips revealed he popped the question to his girlfriend Harriet Sperling after a year of dating, with his fiancé being spotted at several high profile events, including Royal Ascot. Peter's uncle King Charles is said to have been delighted with the news as was his close cousin Prince William and his wife Kate. Although no date is believed to have been set for any nuptials yet, many have wondered who might bag an invite, especially as Peter is thought to be close to both estranged brothers, William and Prince Harry. It comes after news that Prince Harry will 'never be forgiven' by two major royals despite reconciliation hope. READ MORE: Prince William was 'human shield' in tense moment between Kate Middleton and Meghan And for former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond, it could prove awkward when it comes to a guest list, but predicts there could be a surprise. She explained to the Mirror: "It seems that Harriet is already a hit in the Royal family. It was quite an accolade for her to be invited to join the carriage possession at Royal Ascot, and she was seen chatting animatedly with the King. "Given that both she and Peter are divorced, I suspect their wedding may be a fairly low-key civil ceremony. But Peter is very popular in the family and so the reception could well be at Windsor Castle or another royal residence. "As with all weddings, there will be a conundrum about who to invite. Peter was always very close to both William and Harry. During the difficult times he has been something of a buffer, for example, walking between them at the funeral of their grandfather, Prince Philip. "However, it's going to be awkward for him to invite them both to his wedding. On the other hand, both William and Harry attended the funeral of their uncle, Lord Fellowes, and even though they were in the same church and then the same room it seems they did not speak. So, anything is possible. "All things considered, it might be better for Peter and Harriet to have a quiet wedding with just a few friends and family present." Peter, 47, was previously married to Autumn Kelly, with whom he has two daughters Isla and Savannah. He also dated long-term partner Lindsay Wallace before they split last year and he later found love with Harriet, an NHS nurse. In April 2024, it was revealed that Peter had split with previous girlfriend Lindsay, who were said to have amicably separated with work commitments proving a stumbling block for the pair. His split with Lindsay came four years after it was announced Peter and ex-wife Autumn had called time on their marriage after 12 years - marking a tumultuous time for his love life. Peter married his first wife Autumn back in May 2008 in a grand ceremony at St George's Chapel in Windsor, with guests including the late Queen and Prince Philip as well as his cousin Prince Harry. Although Prince William was unable to make it, the Princess of Wales was invited, despite being unmarried at the time - and it is believed the wedding marked the first time she met the late Queen. The couple spent time living in Hong Kong through Peter's previous job with the Royal Bank of Scotland and eventually settled back in the UK with their two daughters Savannah, 14, the late Queen's oldest great-grandchild and Isla, 13. However, towards the end of 2019, the couple separated and revealed they had taken the difficult step in an emotional statement in 2020. When they married in 2008, the couple raised eyebrows when the pictures from the wedding were sold to a magazine for a large sum. And Jennie added: "I imagine Peter has learnt his lesson from his first wedding, when he sold the picture rights to a magazine for £500,000. It did not go down well with the Queen or the palace, who said it had been 'a serious error of judgement'."

After sailing through the earlier rounds, the hopeful contestants reached the final with a shot at a life-changing sum — only to be let down when none of the celebs on the wheel could crack the last question. 4 Both the players and celebrity experts were completely stumped, as no one won any money Credit: BBC 4 It was a brutal end to the episode… but how would you have done under pressure? Credit: BBC All three contestants faced the same tricky jackpot question — and one by one, they each got it wrong. With every incorrect answer, the prize money was slashed in half, until finally, it was reduced to zero. Host Michael McIntyre watched on in disbelief as the wrong answers rolled in, and the contestants were forced to accept defeat with nothing to show for it. The awkward moment quickly went viral, with fans flooding social media to share their frustration — and many claiming they knew the right answer all along. Two of the questions were especially tough, leaving both the players and celebrity experts completely stumped. It was a brutal end to the episode… but how would you have done under pressure? Contestant Jonathan took on the first jackpot question for £52,000 - with help from YouTuber Harry Pinero. The question was: "When fully grown, which of these species of shark is typically the largest? Great hammerhead shark, Great white shark, Tiger shark or Basking shark." Harry confessed he had no clue - but guessed a great hammerhead shark - which was incorrect. The right answer was: Basking shark. Michael McIntyre's The Wheel in fix row as fans claim last question was 'far too easy' - would you have got it correct? Next up was contestant Gillian, who chose a £26,000 jackpot question - with help from reality star Mark Wright. The question was: "Which country is the world's largest producer of coffee? Brazil, Colombia, India or Kenya." Both Gillian and Mark were drawn to Columbia and were gutted to find out they were incorrect. The right answer was: Brazil. Hardest Quiz Show Questions Would you know the answers to some of quizzing TV's hardest questions Who Wants To Be A Millionaire - Earlier this year, fans were left outraged after what they described as the "worst" question in the show's history. Host Jeremy Clarkson asked: 'From the 2000 awards ceremony onwards, the Best Actress Oscar has never been won by a woman whose surname begins with which one of these letters?' The multiple choice answers were between G, K, M and W. In the end, and with the £32,000 safe, player Glen had to make a guess and went for G. It turned out to be correct as Nicole Kidman, Frances McDormand and Kate Winslet are among the stars who have won the Best Actress gong since 2000. - Earlier this year, fans were left outraged after what they described as the "worst" question in the show's history. The 1% Club - Viewers of Lee Mack's popular ITV show were left dumbfounded by a question that also left the players perplexed. The query went as follows: "Edna's birthday is on the 6th of April and Jen's birthday falls on the 15th of October, therefore Amir's birthday must be the 'X' of January." It turns out the conundrum links the numbers with its position in the sentence, so 6th is the sixth word and 15th is the fifteenth word. Therefore, Amir's birthday is January 24th, corresponding to the 24th word in the sentence. - Viewers of Lee Mack's popular ITV show were left dumbfounded by a question that also left the players perplexed. The Chase - The ITV daytime favourite left fans scratching their heads when it threw up one of the most bizarre questions to ever grace the programme. One of the questions asked the player: "Someone with a nightshade intolerance should avoid eating what?" The options were - sweetcorn, potatoes, carrots - with Steve selecting sweetcorn but the correct answer was potatoes. With one more chance to win money, Gillian had another chance at the final jackpot question for £13,000. This time, with help from Canadian comedian Katherine Ryan. The question was: "Of these restaurants, which opened in the UK first? KFC, McDonald's, Domino's or Wagamamas." Katherine admitted she hasn't been in the UK that long, but knows McDonald's is really old. Gillian agreed as she recalled having birthday parties there when she was young. However, the correct answer was KFC - prompting gasps from the celebrities and leaving Gillian devastated. Michael called the episode "a heartbreaker" and a "rollercoaster night" as it is rare that all the contestants walk away with nothing. He ended the show saying: "We have no winner tonight, but thank you to all our experts. We'll see you next time - and hopefully we'll have a winner then - on The Wheel." Did you nail the final answer and walk away a winner?
