Priyanka Chopra's eagle-eyed fans call out BVLGARI for misspelling actor's name at sit-down dinner in Sicily: ‘Not in good taste'

Indian Express21-05-2025

Priyanka Chopra, a brand ambassador of the global jewellery brand BVLGARI, recently attended an event in Sicily, Italy, for a special event. She shared her look and some special memories from the event on her Instagram handle. But her eagle-eyed fans spotted a mistake on part of the brand in her Sicily dump.
Chopra took to her Instagram handle on Tuesday and shared her photos from Sicily. These included pictures of her looking stunning in a Christian Dior outfit, a flute of sparkling wine next to the swimming pool, a plate of scrumptious spaghetti, and a breath-taking view from her home. It was the picture from the sit-down table hosted by the brand that caught her fans' attention, for all the wrong reasons.
The name card on the table spelled her name as 'Pryianka Chopra Jonas.' A fan spotted that error and commented on Chopra's post, 'I find it racist and offensive when people cannot be bothered to check the spelling of an individual's name. It's just sad and I've experienced it countless times.'
Another Instagram user argued, 'True, but the only difference is literally the 'i' and the 'y' being the other way round. I don't think they mean offence.' A third user jumped in and wrote, 'As a host of a sit-down dinner, it's absolutely imperative that the spelling of the name of each guest is correct to the T. You are absolutely right. This is not in good taste at all. They don't mean offence, but are certainly casual.'
A fan also addressed Chopra and commented, 'They spelt your name wrong on the card. I hope you pointed out to them.' 'Can't get over that spelling mistake (crying emoji),' wrote another. 'West and their misspelling of our Indian names (smiling with tears emojis),' reiterated a third one.

Speaking to the SCREEN in the past, Priyanka had said that she had to teach people in the West how to pronounce her name. 'While I didn't have to change my name, but I had to teach people how to say my name, if you can say Oprah, you can say Chopra. I had to be ethnically ambiguous to a certain extent to be able to get mainstream roles. Even Quantico, for that matter, I played a half Indian-half American. I couldn't step out there being Indian because it was too alien for Hollywood,' she had said.
On the acting front, Chopra will be next seen in Ilya Naishuller's action comedy Heads of State alongside John Cena and Idris Elba, which will drop on Prime Video on July 2. She'll also headline Frank E Flowers' action drama The Bluff and Nicholas Stoller's comedy Judgment Day, alongside Will Ferrell, Zac Efron, and Regina Hall. Back home, Chopra will star opposite Mahesh Babu in SS Rajamouli's next Telugu action adventure.

Housefull Franchise Opening Day India Box Office Comparison: How has the recent killer-comedy performed in compared to other films of the series?

Housefull 5 starring Akshay Kumar and a host of other actors, took a good opening of Rs 22 crore net at the Indian box office. The Sajid Nadiadwala -conceptualised film's advance booking suggested a sub-Rs 20 crore start but it got good current on the day of release to push it to Rs 22 crore net. Housefull 5 is the biggest opener of all the Housefull films. In the last 15 years, no Housefull movie except Housefull 5 has managed to open above Rs 20 crore net. The growth in collections, shows that there is good enough interest among the audiences to watch more films from this madcap comedy franchise. The footfalls of Housefull 5, despite being the highest opener among Housefull films, are the lowest in the franchise's 15 year long history. The first Housefull film got 15 lakh people to theatres on the opening day, followed by 17 lakh for Housefull 2; said to be the peak of the franchise. From there, the films of the series have been seeing a slow decline in the opening day footfalls. Housefull 4 's opening can be seen slightly differently because it released on pre-Diwali Friday and the collections blasted from Monday (Govardhan Pooja Day). It went on to emerge a super-hit. To Housefull 5's defence, it has done well given that Akshay Kumar has been going through a lean phase at the box office and given that the audiences have become more picky about what they watch in theatres than ever before. If Akshay Kumar was in a form like he was in 2018, the opening of Housefull 5 could have been close to Rs 30 crore net. Here's Comparing The Opening Day Collections And Footfalls Of Films Of The Housefull Franchise Film Day 1 India Net Collections Day 1 Footfalls Screens Housefull Rs 9.35 crore 15 lakh 1700 Housefull 2 Rs 12.25 crore 17 lakh 2650 Housefull 3 Rs 15.25 crore 15 lakh 3650 Housefull 4 Rs 17.50 crore 13 lakh 3900 Housefull 5 Rs 22 crore 11 lakh 5000 Housefull 5 has been seeing a steady growth of 35 percent on its first Saturday (Bakri Eid) and collections should flirt with Rs 30 crore. Sunday should again be on par with or higher than Saturday, to give the film an opening weekend in the vicinity of Rs 83-85 crore net. Have you watched Housefull 5? If yes, what are your thoughts on the movie? Do let us know. Stay tuned to Pinkvilla for more updates.

‘Best gossip buddy': Sanjana Ganesan's banter about life with Jasprit Bumrah wins hearts on the Internet

Banter between couples – celebrity or not – can make for some of the most charming, relatable content. In a recent podcast appearance, sports journalist and cricket anchor Sanjana Ganesan offered a candid look into her life with cricketer husband Jasprit Bumrah, and the Internet is loving it. Speaking on the podcast Moments of Silence hosted by Instagram influencers Sakshi Shivdasani and Naina Bhan, Ganesan shared how Bumrah is her 'best gossip buddy'. The two, she said, love lounging at home watching Netflix, indulging in chocolates, and catching up on work gossip. The now-viral clip also revealed a fun behind-the-scenes moment from their professional lives. Ganesan, who has interviewed Bumrah during matches, recalled how he often tries to throw her off by winking or smiling during serious segments. 'I try to stay focused and in journalist mode, but he knows exactly how to break that,' she said, laughing. The clip was posted on the podcast's Instagram page, @momentofsilencepod, with the caption, ''Interviewed a true inspiration this week — she's got it all (except your fav cricketer's phone number)! Stream now on Spotify!' The video has amassed 685K views and 42.5K likes on the platform. A post shared by Moment of Silence (@momentofsilencepod) Reacting to the video, a user commented, 'You carry strength with such grace, Sanjana di. Your poise, confidence, and calm presence are truly inspiring. Women like you redefine elegance.' Another user wrote, 'By far THE BEST EPISODE! Love how you highlighted her success and career without making it just about the husband. I knew I was a problem when I got excited thinking all the questions are going to be around cricket and 'the husband'.' One Instagram user said, 'Sanjana you are looking so beautiful.' However, not all feedback was positive. One user criticised the interviewers, saying, 'This was the best guest you had. I love you guys, but this was not your finest moment. Good questions were not put and you were not well prepared.' In the episode, Ganesan also touched upon her Miss India journey, college life, and thoughts on motherhood.

Rana Daggubati weighs in on Deepika Padukone-Sandeep Reddy Vanga's limited working hours controversy: ‘There are actors who shoot for 4 hours'

New mom Deepika Padukone's exit from Sandeep Reddy Vanga's Spirit over number of working hours in a day and contract disputes sparked a larger conversation about fixed working hours across Indian film industries. In a recent interaction, actor Rana Daggubati shared his perspective on the matter, offering a nuanced take on balancing work culture and economic realities. Rana argued that while striving for work-life balance is valid, one must also consider India's developmental status, which may demand more effort and longer hours to reach certain standards. He also pointed out that work hours vary significantly from one film industry to another and even from project to project. He explained to The Lallantop, 'We should understand that India is a developing country. We are not a developed nation. Our economy is probably 186th in the world if you look at the per capita income. I come from the Telugu film industry which moved from Madras. It was a bunch of families and hundreds of others who packed bags and left one city and started work in another city. So to me, it is not work, it is a lifestyle. It also depends on project to project and person to person and each state has a lot to govern that.' He then explained how working hours vary across different film industries and said, 'Like in Maharashtra it is a 12-hour shift, in Telugu it is an 8-hour shift. But in Maharashtra you start at 9 am, but in Telugu we start at 7 am. The location and city, whether it is shot on a set or a studio, all this also adds to that factor, it is not generic. You need more preparation to shoot on a set, while studio gives you comfort. So it depends on project to project. You are seeing it as a generic statement, it is not.' He added, 'In a country that has 1.8 billion people and 70–80 percent of those earn Rs 100 a day, and we start seeing things in that light, we will realise that we have a big place to catch up.' When asked about actors being forced to stay on set for longer hours, Rana responded, 'Nobody is forcing anybody. It is a job. Like nobody can force you, 'You have to do this show.' It's a choice. Everyone has an opinion on what is important in their life. There are actors who shoot for only 4 hours and but that is their system of working.' Earlier, reports suggested that Deepika walked out of Spirit after her demand for an 8-hour workday was rejected by Vanga. The filmmaker later posted a cryptic note on social media addressing the issue without naming Deepika. In the post, he accused the actor of playing a 'dirty PR game' and wrote a long note on X. A part of his note read, 'When I narrate a story to an actor, I place 100% faith. There is an unsaid NDA (Non Disclosure Agreement) between us. But by doing this, You've 'DISCLOSED' the person that you are…. Putting down a Younger actor and ousting my story? Is this what your feminism stands for? As a filmmaker, I put years of hard work behind my craft & for me, filmmaking is everything. You didn't get it. You won't get it. You will never get it.'
