Pradhan hails 11 yrs of NDA rule as era of transparent and transformative governance

Hyderabad, June 10 (UNI) Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Tuesday said that the NDA government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has ushered in a transparent, decisive, and trustworthy governance model that has significantly transformed India's global standing.
Addressing a press conference at the BJP state office in Nampally to mark the completion of 11 years of the NDA government, Pradhan recalled that prior to 2014, India was perceived as economically fragile and lacking international credibility. He said this image has undergone a remarkable shift, with India now standing as the fourth-largest economy in the world.
'The trust placed in Prime Minister Modi's leadership has been validated through consistent performance and transformative initiatives,' he stated.
Pradhan highlighted key milestones achieved by the government, including the construction of four crore houses under various housing schemes and the commitment to deliver an additional two crore homes. He pointed to initiatives such as Ayushman Bharat and the widespread availability of affordable medicines through Jan Aushadhi Kendras as examples of the government's emphasis on accessible healthcare.
He underlined the government's focus on youth and women empowerment, citing schemes like Lakhpati Didi and various skill development programmes designed to create self-reliant citizens.
In the rural and agricultural sectors, Pradhan noted that Rs 3.7 lakh crore has been disbursed through the PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme. He also highlighted significant investments in agricultural infrastructure, the issuance of soil health cards, and enhanced support for small and marginal farmers.
Speaking on infrastructure development, Pradhan said the past decade has seen substantial growth in railways, highways, airports, and digital infrastructure, laying a robust foundation for sustainable economic growth. He added that each rupee spent by the government is now creating five times the impact at the grassroots level, reflecting the effectiveness of the current economic model.
Pradhan observed that India has emerged as a key destination for global investment, with international companies increasingly viewing the country as central to their expansion strategies. He lauded the southern states—Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Kerala—for their leadership in innovation and entrepreneurship, and cited Hyderabad's emergence as a hub for Global Capability Centres (GCCs) as a symbol of India's growing role in the knowledge economy.
On higher education, the Minister advocated for greater institutional autonomy and flexibility to help increase the Gross Enrolment Ratio from the current 27 per cent to 50 per cent by 2035. He stressed that trust and freedom for educational institutions are essential to meeting the demands of a rapidly evolving global economy.
Pradhan described the past 11 years under the NDA regime as a 'golden chapter' in India's governance history. He said while there is still more to achieve, the foundations laid so far have instilled public confidence and restored faith in India's democratic and developmental processes.

‘Engineers decided, cabinet okayed': KCR justifies KLIP nod

Hyderabad: Former chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Wednesday appeared before Justice (Retd) P C Ghose commission, which is probing structural failures at the Medigadda barrage and damages at the Annaram and Sundilla barrages, and sought to firmly distance the political executive from any unilateral decision-making in Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme (KLIS). Tired of too many ads? go ad free now He asserted that all major decisions — ranging from the re-engineering of the project to the construction and operation of its key barrages — were made based on the recommendations of technical and expert committees and were formally approved by the state cabinet. "This is a massive technical project, and every decision was taken by engineers, irrigation experts, and subject committees. The cabinet only gave formal policy sanction," he is believed to have told the commission. KCR stressed that the then BRS govt acted on expert advice, followed due administrative procedures, and relied on the collective wisdom of the cabinet throughout the execution of the Rs 1 lakh crore mega project. He also noted that Water and Power Consultancy Services (India) Limited (WAPCOS), a Central govt agency, had conducted the survey for the construction of the three barrages. Justice Ghose posed 18 pointed questions during the 50-minute session. KCR explained that the project plan was revised after expert reports and WAPCOS flagged concerns over inadequate water availability at the original site, Tummidihatti. The commission summoned him as witness number 115, given that the Kaleshwaram project was conceived and executed during his tenure. KCR pointed out that the Maharashtra govt had objected to the proposed barrage at Tummidihatti being constructed at a height of 152m. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Lowering the height to 148m, as suggested, would have rendered the project unviable due to insufficient water availability. Since Central Water Commission (CWC) also raised concerns, he said, the decision to shift the project to Medigadda was both inevitable and scientifically justified. Medigadda, he explained, offered a more favourable location with an assured water availability of 230 tmcft for lifting — significantly higher than at Tummidihatti. KCR held the irrigation portfolio when the three major barrages — Medigadda, Annaram, and Sundilla — were completed and inaugurated in 2019. Responding to questions on the formation of Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Corporation (KLIC), KCR said the special purpose vehicle was created to raise loans, as revenue generation had not yet begun. The state govt, he added, provided budgetary support for the repayment of principal and interest, and extended sovereign guarantees to lending agencies. On the allegation that the barrages were used as storage points beyond their design capacity, he described it as a "technical call" made by engineers based on field realities. He noted that Rs 280 crore had been allocated for maintenance and over 4,000 engineers had worked on the project, ensuring oversight at every level. To reinforce his position, the BRS chief submitted to the commission a booklet titled Kaleshwaram: A Lift Line of Telangana, along with records of all govt orders, approvals from central agencies like CWC, and minutes of key decisions made during the project's execution. The cross-examination began at 12 pm and concluded at 12.50 pm. With the inquiry entering a sensitive phase, KCR's deposition is being seen as a clear political signal. "The state's most ambitious irrigation venture was built on expert advice, not personal whim — a line likely to define the BRS's counter-narrative as accountability questions continue to mount," a senior observer noted.

None from KCR family will be allowed into Cong till I am there: Revanth

Hyderabad: Chief minister A Wednesday said no member of BRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao's family will have an entry into as long as he was at the helm and termed them as 'enemies' of Telangana. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The CM was replying to queries in an informal chat with reporters in New Delhi, before returning to Hyderabad after his three-day trip, regarding speculations over BRS MLC K Kavitha following her letter to KCR recently and her subsequent statements. He dubbed her rebellion as a family drama to seek people's attention as BRS had become almost irrelevant in Telangana politics, drawing a parallel with the Telugu movie 'Assembly Rowdy'. The CM said despite Kavitha openly stating that 'devils' have gathered around KCR, the BRS chief was yet to respond to his daughter's accusations. "The entire KCR family is trying to ensure that political discussions revolve around them. But they are traitors of Telangana," Revanth alleged. When asked to comment on KCR's appearance before the PC Ghose commission probing Kaleshwaram project, the CM said: "Today, KCR gave his version of the Kaleshwaram project to the commission. In two days, I will come out with all the details of the project in front of the media. The people of Telangana should know the facts." He also slammed Union minister G Kishan Reddy, accusing him of creating hurdles in the development of Telangana. "Kishan Reddy is acting at the behest of KCR. Several infrastructure projects such as the Regional Ring Road have been delayed due to his interference. I ensured land acquisition for Cherlapally railway station," he said, explaining the state govt's proactive role. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now "Kishan Reddy has not brought a single key project to Telangana from the Centre. But, if he comes forward for development of the state, I am ready to hold a review meeting on projects with him. I want to ask Kishan Reddy whether he ever gave a report on Telangana projects or at least asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to grant a project to Telangana. Did Kishan Reddy ever mention Telangana issues in the Union Cabinet?" Revanth asked. Pointing out that Union minister Nirmala Sitharaman took Metro rail to Chennai and another Union minister took Metro rail project to Karnataka, he said that Kishan Reddy did nothing for Telangana. 'Naxalism reduced in Telangana due to Indira's land reforms' Responding to queries on Naxalism, Revanth Reddy said their ideology will exist in some form or the other as long as societal inequalities persist. After Indira Gandhi became PM, land reforms were brought in as a result of which Naxalism declined in Telangana. Indira brought the slogan of 'land belongs to tillers' and distributed land pattas to lakhs of SC and ST families, he said. The previous Congress govts also built houses for the homeless, he said.
