Fahmi extends condolences on passing of broadcasting legend Yahya Longchik
Yahya, who was a prominent radio presenter in 1966 through the programme 'This Is Your Life', died at the age of 86.
In a post on X today, Fahmi said Yahya's passing was a great loss to the nation's broadcasting industry.
'As one of the voices and faces who helped shape the TV and radio news landscape in our country through @RTM_Malaysia, the late Yahya will be remembered not only for his charismatic presenting style but also for his dedication to broadcasting quality and integrity.
'More than just a news presenter, he was a symbol of trustworthiness, credibility, and service to the people,' he said.
Fahmi also prayed for Yahya's soul to be blessed and placed among the righteous.
After retiring from RTM, Yahya joined Pos Malaysia in 1990 as Group Manager (Public Relations).

Fahmi offers condolences on passing of journalist Nurulanuar
KUALA LUMPUR: Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil has extended his condolences to the family and friends of former Utusan Malaysia journalist Nurulanuar Mansor, who passed away yesterday. Fahmi expressed sadness over the passing of Nurulanuar, a member of the Kuala Lumpur and Selangor Journalists Club (KLS), whom he described as an immensely talented individual in the arts. 'He drew a caricature which he presented to me during the Malaysian Media Clubs Alliance dinner last month. 'My condolences to all of the late Nurulanuar's family members and friends. Meanwhile, KLS president Wan Syamsul Amly Wan Seadey, when contacted by Bernama, confirmed that Nurulanuar passed away at Putrajaya Hospital due to a ruptured blood vessel. The funeral prayer will be held after the Zuhur prayers at Masjid Saidina Hamzah, and Nurulanuar's remains will be laid to rest at the Muslim cemetery along the Kuala Lumpur-Karak Highway in Taman Selasih, Batu Caves. - Bernama

463 media practitioners receive aid from Tabung Kasih@HAWANA
PENAMPANG: A total of 463 media practitioners and veterans across Malaysia have received assistance from the Tabung Kasih@HAWANA fund, aimed at supporting those struggling with health issues or financial difficulties. Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil confirmed the distribution, emphasizing the government's commitment to easing burdens faced by media personnel. 'We will increase our efforts with media associations and clubs in the states to help more media practitioners who are eligible to receive this assistance,' Fahmi said. He noted that funds allocated from previous HAWANA programmes, including a RM1 million contribution announced by the Prime Minister last year, remain unused. During the event, Fahmi presented aid to Sabah State Information Department photographer Vicky Sylvester Matanjang, 52, who sustained severe injuries in a March road accident. Vicky suffered fractures in six left ribs and his left hand, requiring ongoing physiotherapy. With 18 years of service, he became the 24th Tabung Kasih@HAWANA recipient in Sabah. Fahmi also addressed concerns over low journalist salaries, particularly in Sabah, where some earn below RM2,000 despite long service. 'I will ask Gabungan Kelab Media Malaysia (GKMM) to gather details for further discussion,' he said, adding that employment status—whether full-time or freelance—would be reviewed. Sabah launches NADI Ambassador programme to boost digital literacy
KOTA KINABALU: Sabah has become the first state to roll out the NADI Ambassador programme, a collaborative effort by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), and Yayasan Sukarelawan Siswa. The initiative aims to promote digital literacy and the benefits of National Information Dissemination Centre (NADI) Smart Services, particularly in rural areas. Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil highlighted that 50 UMS student volunteers were selected to participate in the programme. These ambassadors will also support MCMC's Safe Internet Campaign by educating communities on responsible internet use. 'Sabah was chosen due to its past internet infrastructure challenges during the pandemic. We have been addressing these issues through tower installations and WiFi expansions. Now, we are reinforcing digital literacy through this programme,' Fahmi said during the launch at UMS. The NADI Ambassador initiative includes a two-day training session covering volunteerism fundamentals, NADI Smart Services, and cyber safety awareness. Upon completion, ambassadors will conduct briefings for schools, parents, and local entrepreneurs at 131 NADI centres across Sabah. MCMC stated that 25 NADI centres have been matched with the hometowns of the volunteers to ensure localised outreach.
