Baywatch Hawaii theme co-writer and island reggae artist, George "Fiji" Veikoso, dies aged 55

George 'Fiji' Veikoso, who co-wrote the Baywatch Hawaii theme tune and was recognised for his contribution to island reggae music, has died at the age of 55. Born in Fiji in May 1970, Veikoso moved to Hawaii in 1987 following the coup d'état in Fiji. His first album was released in 1994, and he later co-wrote the theme tune for Baywatch Hawaii, which filmed on the islands between 1999 and 2001. Veikoso also appeared in the 2002 film Blue Crush, which starred Kate Bosworth, Sanoe Lake, and Michelle Rodriguez. His death was confirmed on Wednesday by the Polynesian Music Network, which announced the news 'with heavy hearts'. A statement shared on Facebook said, 'He was a movement, a voice for the people, a light in the dark. There was, and always will be, only one Fiji. His music wasn't just something we listened to.' Fans paid tribute online, with one writing, 'The whole Pasifika is mourning for you. The king, the G.O.A.T of island reggae music.' Music producer Damon Elliott described Veikoso as his 'best friend and big brother', sharing, 'He believed in me when I didn't believe in myself. He showed me nothing but kindness and love beyond I can't believe it. I love you Fiji more than words.' Veikoso, who received a Lifetime Achievement Award for Polynesian reggae in 2021, had recently promoted the 2025 Homecoming concert scheduled in Fiji for September.

Prince George turns 12 as royal family unveils new birthday portrait

The Prince and Princess of Wales have released a new portrait to mark Prince George's 12th birthday on July 22, 2025. The image, taken earlier this summer by photographer Josh Shinner at the family's Norfolk home, shows George smiling while leaning on a wooden fence. He is dressed casually in a blue and white checked button down shirt, a brown fleece gilet, and a blue-and-white friendship bracelet. In addition to the portrait, a behind-the-scenes birthday video was also shared. The footage shows George outdoors with his younger siblings, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. In one moment, he is seen playfully lifting Louis, and in another, the three siblings walk hand-in-hand across a grassy path, offering a rare look at their family dynamic. This birthday marks George's last before becoming a teenager, and he has made an increasing number of public appearances over the past year. These included Wimbledon, Trooping the Colour, a VE Day event, and a football match with Prince William. The rise in his public visibility reflects a gradual preparation for future royal responsibilities. Prince George currently attends Lambrook School in Berkshire. As he approaches 13, senior school plans are under consideration, with reports suggesting Eton College and Marlborough College as potential options.
