Mukesh Ambani's Jio discontinues its 1 GB/day plan for users
Synopsis Jio has discontinued its entry-level 1 GB per day plans, pushing users towards higher data options. Despite this change, Jio added 1.9 million subscribers in June, leading the market in net additions. Airtel also saw gains, while Vi and BSNL experienced subscriber losses, impacting their active user base. Agencies Mukesh Ambani-led Jio has scrapped its entry-level 1 GB/day plans priced at Rs 249 for 28 days, making 1.5 GB/day packs the new starting option. The change is reflected on Jio's official website, which now lists 1.5 GB/day plans as the base offering, with no 1 GB/day option available for the users. Jio added 1.9 million net wireless subscribers in June, while Airtel gained 763,482 users, TRAI data showed. In the same period, Vi lost 217,816 users while BSNL's subscriber base fell by 305,766. Consequently, overall wireless subscribers increased by 2 million in June, taking the country's total user base to 1163 million. India to have 102 first-mile coal connectivity projects by FY30: Minister
New Delhi: The Ministry of Coal has planned to set up 102 first-mile connectivity (FMC) projects by FY30 to modernise coal evacuation in the country, the government said on Monday. Presently, 44 FMC projects having a capacity of 429.5 million tonnes per year (MTY) are operational. An additional 58 projects will be made operational before FY30, Union Minister of Coal and Mines, G. Kishan Reddy, said in a written reply in Rajya Sabha. FMC projects modernise coal evacuation by replacing traditional road transport from mines with mechanised systems such as conveyor belts, rapid loading systems, and integrated coal handling plants. These projects significantly reduce air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions by eliminating diesel-based truck movement. They enable faster, high-capacity, fully mechanised coal handling and loading, reducing bottlenecks and improving turnaround times. "The total capital expenditure envisaged for the FMC projects is about Rs 31,367 crore. This investment covers mechanised coal handling plants, rapid loading systems, closed conveyor networks, integrated silos, railway sidings, and associated infrastructure to enable seamless mechanised coal evacuation," the minister informed. "FMC systems preserve coal quality by minimising manual handling and limiting losses during transit. Operational and transportation costs are lowered through direct, energy-efficient conveyance to rail sidings or loading points. Reduced road traffic enhances occupational safety, lowers accident risks, and improves working conditions in mining areas," the minister added. By FY 2029-30, upon completion of the above-mentioned projects, about 90 per cent of the total projected coal output from India's three major PSUs is expected to be transported using FMC. Earlier this month, the government said a total of seven coal blocks have been successfully auctioned, comprising three fully explored and four partially explored coal blocks. These blocks are expected to generate an annual revenue of approximately Rs 719.90 crore (excluding partially explored blocks), likely to attract a capital investment of around Rs 787.50 crore, and create 7,098 employment opportunities. --IANS aar/na

No Shubman Gill, Jasprit Bumrah To Return? India's Likely Squad For Asia Cup 2025
Bumrah last played a T20I match for India on June 29, 2024, whereas Gill's last T20I appearance was against Sri Lanka in Pallekele on July 30, 2024. The 2025 edition of the Asia Cup will feature a total of eight teams, and the matches, which will be played in T20I format, are set to take place in Dubai and Abu Dhabi from September 9 to 28. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) selectors are set to announce India's squad for the premier continental event on Tuesday, August 19 (official confirmation is still awaited), and if reports are to be believed, then there is a tough fight for multiple spots. While Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel and Arshdeep Singh are confirmed starters for India in the shortest format of the game, there are at least 20 players in contention for the remaining 11 spots. It was reported by the Indian Express a couple of days back that Jasprit Bumrah has confirmed his availability for the Asia Cup, and if that information is true, then the 31-year-old fast bowler from Ahmedabad is certain to get picked. Bumrah, who has 89 wickets to his name in 70 T20I matches, last played a T20I match on June 29, 2024, against South Africa in Barbados during the T20 World Cup 2024 final. Since the tournament is set to take place in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, there will be more spinners in the squad, and going by current form and stature, Kuldeep Yadav and Varun Chakaravarthy are set to get picked. However, it remains to be seen if Washington Sundar gets a chance or selectors turn attention once again to former world No. 1 T20I spinner Ravi Bishnoi. One outside option can be Krunal Pandya. Pandya impressed with his all-round show in IPL 2025 for Royal Challengers Bengaluru. For the third seamer slot there is a three-way fight between Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna and Harshit Rana. Rana played in the last T20I series for India, whereas Krishna won the Purple Cap in IPL 2025. On the other hand, Siraj is one of India's most experienced pacers, and he also featured for India in the T20 World Cup last year. Rishabh Pant is out of action these days due to a foot injury, which is why he won't be available for selection, and the same is the case with Ishan Kishan. In such a scenario, Sanju Samson will be India's first-choice wicketkeeper-batter once again, and RCB star Jitesh Sharma could be his deputy over Dhruv Jurel. Jitesh last played a T20I for India in January 2024, but he made a case for selection in the squad by playing match-winning knocks for the Rajat Patidar-led side in the cash-rich league earlier this year. As far as the batters are concerned, it remains to be seen which three players out of Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Varma and Shreyas Iyer are picked for the top order. Abhishek is the world's No. 1 T20I batter, and by his stature, he should be a definite pick, but then Jaiswal and Gill were brilliant with the bat in IPL this year and were picked over Abhishek in the T20I series against Sri Lanka last year. Tilak, who is the world's No. 2 T20I batter scored two back-to-back T20I centuries against South Africa last year, is an ideal fit for the No. 3/4 role, but Iyer too has made a case by playing match-winning knocks for Punjab Kings in IPL 2025 on multiple occasions. It certainly won't be an easy job for the Ajit Agarkar-led selection to pick three and leave two out. Going by form, stature and T20I records, Jaiswal deserves a place in the squad along with Abhishek, as his numbers (runs, average, strike rate, 50+ scores, boundaries) are better than Gill's, and in the IPL 2025 as well, he scored more than 550 runs. As far as the fight between Tilak and Iyer is concerned, Tilak has shown that he belongs to the highest level, and his two centuries in South Africa are proof that he can score big overseas as well. For the finisher's role, Rinku Singh and Shivam Dube are two top contenders. Though they failed to do much with the bat in the IPL this year. At least one of them is sure to be picked, if not both.
