Kick-off time of August Egyptian League games adjusted due to heat: EPL - Egyptian Football

Al-Ahram Weekly3 days ago
The kick-off time of the Egyptian Premier League's new season games in August has been adjusted due to high temperatures, the Egyptian Pro League (EPL) announced on Monday.
'For the sake of players and fans upon the request of clubs and after arrangement with authorities, the kick-off time of league matches during August has been changed. Games will start at 6pm and 9pm instead of 5pm and 8pm,' read an EPL statement.
The 2025-2026 season will kick off on 8 August and feature 21 teams competing in a two-phase format.
Defending champions Ahly will begin their campaign against Modern Sport, while their fierce rivals Zamalek will face Ceramica Cleopatra.
In the league's first phase, each team will play 20 matches in a single round-robin format.
The top seven teams will then advance to a title-deciding championship group, while the remaining 14 clubs will battle to avoid relegation in a separate group.
At the conclusion of the second phase, four teams from the lower group will be relegated.
Final rankings in both groups will take into account the points accumulated in the first phase and the results of direct encounters within each group.

Zamalek sign Brazilian winger Juan Alvina from Ukraine's FC Oleksandriya - Egyptian Football

Egyptian giants Zamalek have signed Brazilian winger Juan Alvina from Ukrainian club FC Oleksandriya, hours before the close of the summer transfer window on Wednesday midnight. The 22-year-old, who primarily operates as a right winger, has penned a four-year contract keeping him at Zamalek until the summer of 2029. Alvina spent the 2024/25 season at Oleksandriya, where he scored six goals and provided five assists in 24 league appearances. His contributions helped the Ukrainian side finish second in the league, three points behind champions Dynamo Kyiv. ساحر من شواطئ ريو لـ مدرجات التالتة يمين 🏖🤩 البرازيلي خوان ألفينا أحدث المنضمين لمدرسة الفن والهندسة 🌟 إحنا الملوك.. إحنا الزمالك 🏹 ⁦ #Zamalek⁩| ⁦ #MostTitledIn20C⁩| ⁧#الزمالك_أولًا⁩ | ⁧ #أكبر_قلعة_رياضية — Zamalek SC (@ZSCOfficial) August 6, 2025 Zamalek made room for the signing of Alvina after agreeing to loan Tunisian winger Ahmed Jafeli to Saudi side Abha Club. The Brazilian completes the club's five-man foreign player quota, joining Moroccan duo Sallah Moussaddaq and Mahmoud Bentayg, Tunisian striker Seifeddine Jaziri and Angolan winger Chico Banza. He becomes Zamalek's tenth signing this summer, following arrivals including Palestinian striker Oday Dabbagh, Swedish-Palestinian winger Adam Kaied, Angolan forward Chico Banza, Morocco U-20 winger Abdelhamid Maali, goalkeeper El-Mahdi Soliman, midfielder Ahmed Rabi from NBE Club, defender Mohamed Ismael from ZED FC, and Pharco FC attacking duo Amr Nasser and Ahmed Sherif. Zamalek are rebuilding their squad after a disappointing 2024/25 campaign that saw them finish third in the Egyptian Premier League and exit in the quarter-finals of the CAF Confederation Cup. The White Knights will kick off their new league season on 8 August with a tough away fixture against Ceramica Cleopatra at Suez Stadium. German great Mueller signs with MLS Whitecaps - World

Bayern Munich and Germany forward Thomas Mueller has signed with Major League Soccer's Vancouver Whitecaps, the Canadian club announced on Wednesday. The 35-year-old has signed through the end of the 2025 MLS season with an option for 2026, Vancouver said. Mueller announced earlier this year that he would be departing from Bayern Munich - his home for 25 years. His tenure included 13 Bundesliga titles and two Champions League triumphs. "I'm looking forward to coming to Vancouver to help this team win a championship," Mueller said in a statement. "I've heard great things about the city, but first and foremost I'm coming to win. "I've had great conversations with Axel Schuster and Jesper Sorensen, and now I can't wait to play in front of the supporters and to see all of the fans come out to BC Place as we head towards the playoffs." Mueller arrives at a Whitecaps team currently second in the Western Conference, one point behind leaders San Diego but with one match in hand. "He not only brings a winning pedigree and exceptional football intelligence, but also a tireless work ethic that will elevate the entire team," Whitecaps chief executive Schuster said in a statement. "Thomas is a natural leader whose passion for the game is infectious. This is a statement signing by our club and our ownership -- a transformative moment for our club and our city. We are proud to welcome Thomas to Vancouver." Restricted mainly to a substitute's role in the 2024-25 campaign, Mueller made 49 appearances in all competitions, scoring eight goals. He retired from international duty in 2024, having won the World Cup with Germany in 2014. He finished his international career with 131 caps, scoring 45 goals. There had been brief speculation that he would land with Los Angeles FC, but the Whitecaps announcement came on the same day that LAFC were expected to confirm the signing of South Korean star Son Heung-min. Tennis: Sinner lukewarm on expanded Cincinnati format - Omni sports

Jannik Sinner on Wednesday gave tepid approval to the 12-day jumbo version of the ATP-WTA Cincinnati Masters while confessing that he would actually prefer to keep the event to the usual one week length. The world number one will be defending his title at the final big event prior to the August 24 start of the US Open. Extending the ongoing Canada event - and Cincinnati - to 12 days with 96-player draws also means that WTA and ATP events in Canada will stage unorthodox finals on Thursday while play is beginning in Cincinnati. Sinner said that given the choice he would opt for the classic system of one-week events for an increasingly crowded calendar. "We (top players) cannot control everything," the Italian said. "The fans now have two weekends to hopefully watch some good tennis. "That is exactly what we need in this sport." But the Wimbledon champion who skipped Canada to rest after his triumph two weeks earlier in the final at the All England Club over Carlos Alcaraz added: "I would prefer a one-week event, it's something that I like. "But it's OK, I'm here and I'm very happy." Other top 10 players, including Novak Djokovic and Alex de Minaur, have also complained in recent days about the wholesale calendar rewrite which has the enthusiastic endorsement of the ATP and WTA. Sinner said that he enjoyed his time away from the courts, spending time at home with family and friends. "Then it was back to practice to try and get as ready as possible for the US swing." He said Wimbledon, where he beat Alcaraz after losing to the Spaniard at Roland Garros, "felt very, very special."
