Doppler radar at RMC, Nagpur restarts after a month

The RMC started issuing radar images with the three-hourly nowcast warnings about possible rains and thunderstorms in the region on Thursday. The development comes at a crucial time, as a red alert has been declared in the region, and the DWR will play a role in generating precise climatic changes in Vidarbha.
The DWR went down due to a technical failure around June 20, affecting the nowcast services. The RMC was dependent on satellite images relayed from 36,000 ft above ground in the absence of radar images.
The DWR has been aiding nowcast, showing crucial developments taking place over Nagpur and Central India skies for several years. Its services were badly missed during the July 5, 6, and 7 rains in Nagpur.
IMD scientist Dr Rizwan Ahmed said, "During the servicing of the radar; RMC Nagpur forecaster has utilized different meteorological satellites such as INSAT-3DS and INSAT-3DR. These satellites provide images and products every 15 minutes over the Indian region, aiding in the monitoring of various severe weather phenomena and the issuance of Nowcasts."

A rainy end to month? After humid spell, intense showers set to lash Gurgaon
Gurgaon: After a dry spell, most parts of Haryana, including the city, are likely to see moderate to heavy showers on July 28 and 29, with the monsoon expected to shift south of Delhi and intensify over neighbouring regions. According to IMD, rainfall activity is expected to be widespread across Gurgaon, Faridabad, and south Haryana areas, especially in the late evening and early morning hours. "Weather models show that a low-pressure system currently active over north India will move towards northeast Rajasthan. This will likely trigger heavy to very heavy rainfall in parts of Rajasthan and northern Madhya Pradesh. Delhi, which lies just north of this system, could also see spillover rain," an IMD official said.
