Fatal crash shuts down East Bay highway for hours
Officers responded to a report of a car crash on the northbound lanes of Highway 13, just north of Interstate 580 in East Oakland, just before 3:20 a.m. and found a 2013 Audi A6 engulfed in flames, said CHP spokesperson Officer Adib Zeid.
The driver was found dead inside the vehicle, Zeid said. Investigators believe the driver left the roadway and collided with a tree. The driver was not immediately identified.
Northbound lanes were shut down during the investigation and reopened around 6:38 a.m., Zeid said.
