Cops arrest 84 in Johor's Ops Noda Khas
Johor Police chief Comm Datuk M. Kumar said the operation aimed to eliminate prostitution activities, the misuse of social visit passes, the hiring of foreign women without valid work permits and the operation of unlicensed premises.
'We are targeting karaoke centres, entertainment outlets, beauty and wellness centres, food outlets, hotels, massage parlours and homestays,'' he said in a statement on Thursday (May 15).
Comm Kumar said of the 84 people detained, 15 were local men, two local women, six foreign males and 61 foreign females aged 19 to 55, for committing various offences.
He said police also seized mobile phones, payment receipts, microphones, loudspeakers, televisions, condoms, massage oils, towels, tissues, duty rosters, a working time punch card machine and RM8,553 cash.
'The seized items will be used for investigation purposes,'' added Comm Kumar.
He said the 17 locals arrested have been remanded under Section 17 of the Malaysian Criminal Procedures Code, while the 67 foreigners were held under the Immigration Act 1959/63 for not possessing valid travel documents and working without work permits.
Comm Kumar said an investigation was conducted under the following offence provisions:
Section 6(2) and Section 11(2) of the Johor State Entertainment and Entertainment Places Enactment 4/98.
Section 55B, Section 55E and Section 6(1)(c), Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 and Rules 39(b) of the Immigration Rules 1963.
Section 372(A), Section 372(B) and Section 373 of the Penal Code, Section 107(6) of the Local Government Act 1976, Section 3(1) Trade, Business and Industry Licensing By-law (Johor Baru City Council) 2016.
'We have conducted 97 raids at prostitution dens statewide from January to April 2025, 383 were arrested, of whom 70 were locals and 313 foreigners for various offences,'' he said.

State agency officer remanded over RM8,000 bribery allegation in Kuala Lumpur
KUALA LUMPUR: A state government agency officer has been remanded for five days for allegedly soliciting and receiving a bribe of about RM8,000 from a company owner. Magistrate Zur Azureen Zainalkefli granted the remand order until Aug 25 after the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission made the application at the Shah Alam Magistrate's Court on Thursday (Aug 21). Sources said the suspect, a man in his 40s, was detained at around 2pm on Wednesday (Aug 20) when he came to the Selangor Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission office to give his statement. "Initial investigations revealed that the suspect had allegedly asked for money from a company owner in exchange for not imposing a compound over the misuse of a halal logo on products that were not certified halal. "The suspect is believed to have received about RM8,000 from the company owner,' the source said. When contacted, Selangor Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission deputy director Khairul Izwan Karim confirmed the arrest. He said the case is being investigated under Section 17(a) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009.

Thirty-four foreigners detained for working illegally at Johor Baru medical centre
JOHOR BARU: Thirty-four foreigners have been detained by the Immigration Department for working illegally at a medical centre here. Johor Immigration director Datuk Mohd Rusdi Mohd Darus said the raid, carried out under Ops Selera and Ops Kutip on August 20, followed public complaints about foreigners working and living in the country without valid documents. 'A total of 120 foreigners and locals were inspected in the operation. Those detained included 18 Indonesian men, 11 Indonesian women, two Filipino men and one Filipino woman, aged 19 to 50,' he said in a statement on Thursday (August 21). A local man and woman, both managers of the premises, were also arrested. Mohd Rusdi said the foreigners were detained under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for entering and staying in Malaysia without a valid pass or permit, Section 15(1)(c) for overstaying, and Regulation 11(7)(a) of the Immigration Regulations 1963 for misusing their social visit passes. They also breached Regulation 39(b) of the Immigration Regulations 1963 for violating pass conditions. The two locals were detained under Section 56(1)(d) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for harbouring foreigners. 'All detainees have been sent to the Setia Tropika Immigration Depot for further investigation and action,' he said.
