#SHOWBIZ: Hot FM's record-breaking Kinabalu campaign shines at APPIES Malaysia 2025

KUALA LUMPUR: Hot FM, a radio station under Media Prima Audio (MPA), has further strengthened its reputation for innovation by earning a Recognition Merit in the Best in Innovation category at APPIES Malaysia 2025.
According to Berita Harian, the award was given for the station's groundbreaking 'Bekpes Hot Tawan Puncak Kinabalu' campaign, held in November last year.
The campaign made history by successfully broadcasting live for 24 continuous hours from the summit of Mount Kinabalu — a feat officially recognised by the Malaysia Book of Records (MBR) as the first of its kind in the country.
The expedition, held between Nov 14 and 15 last year, featured presenters Khairy Jamaluddin (KJ), Johan, Fara, and AG, alongside expedition partners such as Datuk Muqharabbin Mokhtarrudin and Dr Hazwan Khair.
Although Fara Fauzana had to stop at Laban Rata due to health reasons, the mission was completed with remarkable teamwork and camaraderie.
The campaign achieved over 60 million total views, with 38 million views for the 24-hour live stream alone, as well as five million engagements across TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube.
It also boosted tourism bookings for up to 10 months in advance.
MPA Group Network Director, Shah Hayatudin, said the recognition proves Hot FM's ability to deliver high-impact experiences.
"This is not just something you can hear, but also something you can see, feel, and remember," he said in a statement.
Senior Content Director of Hot FM, Raja Khairil Idris Raja Aznan, described the APPIES Malaysia 2025 win as a symbol of fighting spirit and family values.
"This is the foundation of Hot FM's relationship with its fans," he said.
The campaign was supported by Kopi SUPER as the main sponsor, ANBOT as co-sponsor, Firefly as the official airline partner, and Amazing Borneo as the strategic partner.
Its mission was to prove that Hot FM is more than just a radio station by taking on the challenge of climbing Mount Kinabalu while maintaining an uninterrupted live broadcast — showcasing both endurance and technical innovation.
"As the first Malaysian radio station to take on such an extraordinary feat, Hot FM has reinforced its commitment to remain relevant and close to the hearts of listeners," said Raja Khairil.
He added that the achievement reflected the team's spirit: "The perseverance and camaraderie of KJ, Johan, and AG in supporting Fara, who pushed herself to reach Laban Rata despite many challenges, is proof of their solidarity. These are the values Hot FM brings, standing by its fans no matter the situation. That's why Hot FM remains Malaysia's number one choice."

TV host Lee Teng and wife welcome rainbow baby after 2020 miscarriage

TV host Lee Teng and his wife Gina Lin are now first-time parents to a girl named Ellison. Photo: Gina Lin/Instagram Singaporean TV host Lee Teng and his Taiwanese wife Gina Lin are now first-time parents to a baby girl named Ellison. Announcing the good news on Instagram on Aug 13, he joked about how he should now be called 'Ellis' dad'. The 41-year-old thanked his wife, 32, for her unwavering perseverance in her journey to becoming a mother. Calling their newborn a 'rainbow baby', Lee recounted how the past five years had been anything but easy for the couple after they lost their first child in July 2020. Lin was six months pregnant when she suffered a miscarriage after returning to Taiwan to prepare for the birth of their baby boy, nicknamed Xiao Dou Ya (Little Bean Sprout). Lee was then in Singapore for work and could not leave the country to be with her because of Covid-19 travel restrictions. He managed to reunite with her in August that year, and they subsequently spent three months in Taiwan to heal from the grief together. He apologised to his followers for keeping their second pregnancy a secret. He said: 'My wife and I have faced countless setbacks, and there were moments when I couldn't bear to see her disappointed. At times, I asked if we should give up, simply because I couldn't stand watching her suffer. 'The wait has been long, but the moment I saw the smile on our rainbow baby's face, I knew every second was worth it.' Lee also apologised for turning down work over the past year to be with his wife. Lin shared her heartfelt post on Instagram on Aug 13, writing in Chinese that the past few years had been 'incredibly challenging'. 'Facing physical, mental and emotional strain, and concerns from everyone, I've managed to appear calm and composed. But in reality, I've become incredibly sensitive and insecure,' she admitted. She added that she had been living under a constant barrage of repressed emotions and spent almost the entire pregnancy at home. Addressing her daughter in her post, Lin said: 'Thank you for choosing me to be your mother, thank you for working so hard to grow up, thank you for giving me the courage to face my birthday and thank you for piecing together the broken me bit by bit.' She added: 'From the moment I heard your first cry, it felt so unreal. I wake up every morning and ask myself, 'Is this true?' Thank you for coming safely to us. Your father and I only hope you will be healthy and safe.' – The Straits Times/Asia News Network View this post on Instagram A post shared by Gina Lin (@ginalin)

(Video) SUPER JUNIOR Shindong Reveals What Really Happens Behind the Scenes of Idol Dating

Dating in the K-pop industry is often a topic approached with caution, and sometimes outright avoidance. It's not uncommon for idols to be under strict no-dating policies. Furthermore, these rules are meant to help them stay focused and maintain a clean image among fans. Whether it's due to parasocial dynamics or the fear of public scrutiny, romantic relationships continue to be a taboo subject in Korean entertainment. However, during a recent YouTube interview titled 'We Asked Shindong Questions We Were Curious About,' SUPER JUNIOR (슈퍼주니어) member Shindong (신동) spoke openly about dating as an idol. His honest and unfiltered responses surprised both fans and the interviewer. During the conversation, host JM asked Shindong whether he often meets members of the opposite gender as a celebrity. In response, Shindong said dating is possible, for those who put in the effort. If he wanted to pursue someone, he explained, he could ask for numbers at broadcasting stations. Additionally, the idol also mentioned that he could approach fellow celebrities during industry meetups. However, despite having those opportunities, he emphasised that he's never acted on them. Shindong went on to point out that confidence plays a major role in how many idols find romantic partners. According to the dancer, several of his friends have successfully started relationships simply by being bold enough to make the first move. As for himself, he admits to receiving messages in his inbox but rarely feels compelled to reply, noting that online personas can differ significantly from real-life interactions. When asked about his future plans regarding marriage, Shindong shared that he once set a personal goal to tie the knot by the age of 48. However, recently, his perspective has shifted. These days, he finds himself thinking more about starting a family. He's even expressed a growing desire to have a child. Some of his friends have advised him not to wait too long. After all, starting a family can become more difficult with age, he's also taking into consideration. Although he hasn't made any firm decisions just yet, Shindong's openness provides a rare glimpse into the personal life of an idol navigating both fame and future aspirations. In an industry where romantic topics are often kept behind closed doors, his honesty brings a refreshing layer to the ongoing conversation around love, relationships, and adulthood in the K-pop world. (Video) Demi Lovato Explains Recent 'Camp Rock' Reunion Performance With The Jonas Brothers

Earlier this week, Demi Lovato and the Jonas Brothers made headlines when they staged a surprise reunion performance, delivering a medley of songs from their hit Disney Channel film 'Camp Rock'. After wowing fans with 'This Is Me', the songstress and lead singer Joe Jonas performed their duet 'Wouldn't Change a Thing', sending a wave of nostalgia through the crowd. Since then, many have been curious about how the performance came together and who first proposed the idea for the surprise reunion. In a recent interview on the 'Chicks in the Office' podcast, the pop star shared more behind-the-scenes details about the gig, as well as updates on her upcoming music. When asked how the 'Camp Rock' reunion performance came about, Demi revealed that it was Joe Jonas who called her to propose the idea. 'He called me last week, 'Hey, what are you doing on the 10th? We would love to have you perform 'This Is Me' and 'Wouldn't Change a Thing'. You've been a huge part of our journey, and we would love to have you there.' It was so nice — and it was healing for me too,' she told the hosts before adding that she immediately accepted the invitation to do the show. She described the moment on stage as a full-circle experience, as they had first performed the songs together in the film. She added that the Jonas Brothers had visited her in her dressing room before the show, where they spent time catching up and got to know her husband, Jordan 'Jutes' Lutes. The 32-year-old shared that they thanked her profusely for agreeing to do the performance with them. 'It was just so thoughtful, and I felt very appreciated. It was really healing for us, and I loved it. Every second of it was so great,' she stated. Aside from the surprise 'Camp Rock' reunion, Demi Lovato also shared details about her upcoming album. 'This era, I'm not taking myself too seriously. I've written about intense and heavy topics in past records, but when I went into the studio this time, I didn't connect with the emotional songs I was writing. I'm not in a bad place anymore; I'm happy, and I'm in love,' she explained. Watch the preview of the interview: The full interview: Sources: YouTube, Instagram
