Petronas Chemicals to drive operational, commercial resilience to boost growth
Managing director/chief executive officer Mazuin Ismail said the integrated chemicals producer continues to operate in an increasingly uncertain global environment, intensified by trade tensions and ongoing market volatility.
"While we have observed some improvement in commodity prices and a modest recovery in specialty chemicals demand during the first quarter of 2025, the overall outlook remains cautious," he said in a statement today.
Mazuin said at the same time, PCG is continuing with its stringent financial discipline and prudent capital spending.
He added that the company's growth strategy focuses on building a robust project pipeline that responds to evolving industry dynamics, while leveraging its global innovation network to deliver cutting-edge solutions.
"Through these efforts, PCG remains strongly committed to long-term value creation for stakeholders and to stay competitive in an increasingly challenging environment," Mazuin said.
PCG today held its 27th annual general meeting to present the company's performance to its shareholders for the financial year ended Dec 31, 2024 (FY2024).
Its net profit fell to RM1.175 billion in FY2024 from RM1.696 billion in the preceding year, in line with lower earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (Ebitda) and share of loss from associates and joint-ventures.
Revenue for the year rose to RM30.67 billion against RM28.67 billion year-on-year on the back of sales volume growth across its three business segments.

Sultan Nazrin opens Sultan Muzzaffar Shah Bridge in Kuala Kangsar
KUALA KANGSAR: The Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Shah, has inaugurated the Sultan Muzzaffar Shah Bridge at Dataran Manong here. Sultan Nazrin and the Raja Permaisuri of Perak, Tuanku Zara Salim, arrived at 11am on Thursday (Aug 14), accompanied by Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad and his wife Datin Seri Aezer Zubin. In his speech, Nanta said the 300m-long Sultan Muzzaffar Shah Bridge and 3km-long connecting road now link Pekan Manong and Kampung Seberang Manong, reuniting two communities that were once separated by a river. "The construction of this bridge not only improves mobility for the people but also strengthens community ties, stimulates the growth of tourism, trade, and agriculture sectors, as well as opens more economic opportunities for residents in the surrounding areas," he said. "I believe that with the cooperation between the federal and state governments, more high-impact development projects can be implemented in Perak for the well-being of its people," he said. The Sultan Muzzaffar Shah Bridge, a project under the 11th Malaysia Plan costing more than RM37mil, was completed on Oct 25, 2019. – Bernama

Malaysia Eyes Regional Expansion For Local Films And Animation IPS
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 14 (Bernama) – The government is strengthening regional cooperation to expand the reach of Malaysia's creative intellectual properties (IPs), including local films and animation, into regional markets, according to Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil. He said the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (Finas) is actively forging strategic partnerships to facilitate the entry of Malaysian creative IPs into high-potential ASEAN markets, including Indonesia, Vietnam, and Cambodia. 'We've seen how Upin & Ipin received tremendous response in Indonesia. Several local films have also successfully penetrated markets like Vietnam and Cambodia. 'These efforts will be intensified to open wider opportunities for our local creative industry players,' he said when asked about the direction of the animation sector following the tabling of the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP), which emphasises the creative economy as a new driver of national growth, at the Riuh Hangout 2025 event organised by MyCreative Ventures today. Also present were Deputy Minister Teo Nie Ching and Communications Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Mohamad Fauzi Md Isa. Fahmi said that both Finas and MyCreative Ventures have been tasked with not only providing funding but also facilitating collaboration between animation creators and corporate banking institutions that are increasingly recognising the revenue potential of the creative industry. 'We want to foster synergy between the corporate banking sector and the creative industry in terms of financing. These ties will be strengthened, while licensing and distribution matters will be handled by Finas,' he said. Fahmi noted that this initiative aligns with the 13th Malaysia Plan's (13MP) focus on developing the creative economy, particularly by expanding into export markets and boosting the global competitiveness of Malaysian creative content. He added that further details on the initiative are expected to be presented during his winding-up speech on the debate on the 13MP in Parliament on Aug 20.
