Mistral claims its newest AI model delivers leading performance for the price
French AI startup Mistral is releasing a new AI model, Mistral Medium 3, that's focused on efficiency without compromising performance.
Available in Mistral's API priced at $0.40 per million input tokens and $20.80 per million output tokens, Mistral Medium 3 performs 'at or above' 90% of Anthropic's costlier Claude Sonnet 3.7 model on 'benchmarks across the board,' claims Mistral. It also surpasses recent open models including Meta's Llama 4 Maverick and Cohere's Command A on popular AI performance evaluations.
Tokens are the raw bits of data models work with, with a million tokens equivalent to about 750,000 words (roughly 163,000 words longer than 'War and Peace').
'Mistral Medium 3 can […] be deployed on any cloud, including self-hosted environments of four GPUs and above,' explained Mistral in a blog post sent to TechCrunch. 'On pricing, the model beats cost leaders such as DeepSeek v3, both in API and self-deployed systems.'
Mistral, founded in 2023, is a frontier model lab, aiming to build a range of AI-powered services including a chatbot platform, Le Chat, and mobile apps. It's backed by VCs including General Catalyst, and has raised over €1.1 billion (roughly $1.24 billion) to date. Mistral's customers include BNP Paribas, AXA, and Mirakl.
According to Mistral, Mistral Medium 3 is best for coding and STEM tasks, and excels at multimodal understanding. The company says that customers in financial services, energy, and healthcare have been beta testing the model for use cases like customer service, workflow automation, and analyzing complex data sets.
In addition to Mistral's API, where enterprise customers can work with Mistral to fine-tune it, Mistral Medium 3 is available on Amazon's Sagemaker platform starting today. It'll soon come to other hosts, including Microsoft's Azure AI Foundry and Google Cloud Vertex, the company added.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — President Donald Trump's 'big, beautiful bill' could change the way Tennessee regulates artificial intelligence. New language added to the legislation would block states from regulating AI or risk losing federal broadband funding. That means state laws like the Elvis Act, which protects artists from having their voices or images stolen by AI, would be put on pause. 'We are just hoping that we're not taking a couple steps backward since there's no federal regulation currently in place,' Kaley Bonett, a Nashville entertainment lawyer at Hall Booth Smith, said. Report: Most 2026 BMW Models Will Receive a Price Hike on July 1
BMW will raise prices on many of its 2026 models starting on July 1, according to a report from CarsDirect. The increase will amount to about 2 percent of the existing MSRP, with the price hike ranging from $1100 to $2500. Several models will escape the price bump, including the 2026 iX SUV and 2026 M2 coupe. The vast majority of BMW models will likely get more expensive starting next month. As reported by CarsDirect, a bulletin was sent to BMW dealerships last week stating that the MSRP of most 2026 BMW models will go up by 1.9 percent beginning on July 1, 2025. The price increases will reportedly not affect 2025 BMW inventory. BMW has so far released pricing for many, but not all, of its 2026 model year lineup, with pricing for models such as the 7-series, X1, and 2-series not yet available. The nearly 2 percent price increase also won't affect every model in BMW's lineup. The main exceptions are its 2026-model-year EVs, the i5 and the iX. (Pricing for the 2026 i4 and i7 has not been published.) The Alpina XB7, 2026 2-series Gran Coupe, and 2026 M2 are also reportedly unaffected. BMW On the top end, the price hikes amount to $2500 for models such as the X5 M, which rises from $127,200 to $129,700, according to CarsDirect. The lowest increases are for the 4-series Coupe and Z4 roadster, which each see a bump of $1100. These figures exclude the destination fee, which Car and Driver reports as part of the price, and it's unclear if the freight charge will change for any BMW models when the calendar turns to July. CarsDirect says the bulletin doesn't blame the import tariffs implemented by the U.S. government for the price hikes, instead stating that the rises are "in line with past pricing communications, and account for inflation and enhancements to standard equipment where applicable." Slight increases in the MSRP are common for new model years, but we wouldn't be surprised if the tariffs are also playing a factor. A previous report from Automotive News stated that BMW wouldn't raise prices on imported models until the end of June. We've reached out to BMW for comment regarding these reported price increases and will update the story if we hear back. HIVE Digital Capacity Crosses 10 EH/s in May, Aims to More Than Double That by Year-End
Bitcoin miner HIVE Digital Technologies (HIVE) has surpassed 10 exahash per second (EH/s) in hashrate capacity, a 58% increase from April, driven by the launch of a 100-megawatt hydro-powered site in Paraguay. The company said in a press release on Friday that it's on track to reach 25 EH/s by the end of 2025. The firm mined 139 bitcoin in May, or an average rate of 4.5 BTC per day. Peak capacity hit 10.4 EH/s while average hashrate for the month stood at 8.5 EH/s. HIVE said its fleet efficiency remained steady at around 20 joules per terahash (J/TH), and its network share now exceeds 1% of global Bitcoin mining power. The new facility in Paraguay reflects a broader trend in the mining industry: the race to deploy next-generation ASIC miners rapidly and at scale in regions with abundant renewable power. Co-founder Frank Holmes emphasized the company's speed and flexibility, pointing to its Buzz HPC division, which supports AI cloud infrastructure alongside Bitcoin mining. CEO Aydin Kilic said the company's goal for the summer is 18 EH/s, and that fleet upgrades should allow for a daily BTC output of over 12 by the fourth quarter — potentially at a production cost below $50,000 per coin. HIVE operates facilities in Canada, Sweden and Paraguay, powered entirely by hydroelectricity. The company was the first publicly listed crypto miner on the TSX Venture Exchange in 2017. HIVE shares are higher by 13% in New York trade on Friday as the mining sector rallies alongside bitcoin's gain to above $105,000.
