New York Post7 days ago
A police dog in Italy famous for rescuing nine people in his illustrious career was killed after eating sausages laced with nails — and the beloved canine's trainer issued an ominous warning to the sickos behind the cruel act.
Arcangelo Caressa found the heroic 7-year-old bloodhound named Bruno dead in a pool of blood on Friday, sharing the heartbreaking news on social media.
Caressa, Bruno's trainer, issued several messages on Facebook to those behind Bruno's death.

'I KNOW WHO YOU ARE AND YOU WILL PAY FOR IT,' the trainer promised in one post.
'They will pay for it,' he wrote in another . 'I swear.'
Caressa said he discovered Bruno dead in his kennel in southern Taranto after someone snuck in and fed him nail-studded sausages.

The gruesome discovery has sparked a nationwide manhunt for Bruno's killers, and earned the attention of the nation's Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni.
'A heartbreaking piece of news,' she wrote in a social media post featuring a picture of her posing with Bruno after a rescue. 'A vile, cowardly, unacceptable act.'

Caressa said it felt like he died himself with his beloved Bruno after making the agonizing discovery. He praised his trustworthy partner for saving nine lives in his long career with the Dog Rescue Unit and fighting gangs.
'You fought for your whole life to help human beings, and the same humans did this to you,' he wrote in a separate social media post.
'I love you my friend,' he added.
The trainer refused to publish pictures of the 'atrocity' because they were so gruesome.

'You would be shocked,' he wrote. 'You killed him, making him suffer for hours.'

Caressa has already cooperated with prosecutors, whom he has praised for their efforts in tracking down Bruno's killers. He gave them two names of suspects he believes are behind the horrifying killing.
He thinks that Bruno's killing was revenge for going after illegal dog fighting rings, according to reports.
He received death threats in the weeks leading up to Bruno's death, the BBC reported.
'It wasn't a random gesture. They want me to step aside. But I will never give in. This is a vile attack, done for money and revenge,' he told the Corriere della Sera newspaper.
Italian lawmaker Michael Vittoria Brambilla filed a criminal complaint with prosecutors under a new law that she helped draft stiffening penalties for anyone who kills or mistreats an animal, according to CBS News. Brambilla is a well-known animal rights activist in the country.
Caressa said that he hoped his furry friend is wagging his tail among the stars.

'Maybe you're watching us in silence, with those kind eyes that said everything without the need for words,' Bruno posted on social media.
'You weren't just a dog,' he added. 'You were my faithful shadow, my strength in dark moments, the good heartbeat of the world.'

John Torode axed from MasterChef after allegations of racist language upheld

John Torode has been axed from MasterChef after the BBC and producers at Banijay UK confirmed his contract will not be renewed. It comes after Torode confirmed he is the subject of an allegation of using racist language that was upheld as part of a review into the behaviour of co-presenter Gregg Wallace. Last night (Monday, July 14 ), Torode posted on Instagram confirming he was the person alleged to have used racist language but said he had 'no recollection of the incident' and was 'shocked and saddened' by the allegation. Confirming Torode's exit, a Banijay spokesperson said: 'In response to John Torode's statement, it is important to stress that Banijay UK takes this matter incredibly seriously. 'The legal team at Lewis Silkin that investigated the allegations relating to Gregg Wallace also substantiated an accusation of highly offensive racist language against John Torode which occurred in 2018. 'This matter has been formally discussed with John Torode by Banijay UK, and whilst we note that John says he does not recall the incident, Lewis Silkin have upheld the very serious complaint. "Banijay UK and the BBC are agreed that we will not renew his contract on MasterChef.' Fake tutor tries to meet child for sex acts, feds say. Florida cops were waiting

A man accused of posing as a tutor in a local Facebook group found Florida deputies waiting for him when he tried to meet a 12-year-old girl for sex acts, court documents say. Now, Kevin Patrick Wilson, 39, of Ponte Vedra, will spend the next decade in federal prison, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Middle District of Florida. His court-appointed defense attorney did not immediately return McClatchy News' request for comment July 15. Wilson was arrested by St. Johns County sheriff's deputies the evening of July 24, 2024, after prosecutors said he had been communicating with someone he believed was the guardian of the 12-year-old girl. It was actually an undercover detective pretending to be the caregiver for the child, who was a decoy, according to prosecutors. The St. Johns County Sheriff's Office and the FBI began investigating Wilson in response to a tip from a woman that came in four days before his arrest, according to prosecutors. On July 20, 2024, Wilson responded to a Facebook post shared by the woman in a 'St. Augustine Jobs' group, court documents say. In her post, the woman wrote she was looking for a math and writing tutor for a child in sixth grade, court documents say. Wilson commented under her post, but pretended to be his wife and wrote, 'Hi please text my husband Kevin on his cell phone number…,' according to prosecutors. When the woman texted the phone number Wilson provided, she told Wilson she needed a tutor for an 11-year-old, prosecutors wrote in court filings. Then, Wilson 'sent a photo of himself and asked for a photo of the child,' prosecutors said. The woman stopped texting Wilson afterward and informed the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office of their conversation, according to prosecutors. The sheriff's office set up a sting operation that involved an undercover detective texting Wilson a few days later, pretending to be the guardian of a 12-year-old girl, prosecutors said. After the detective asked Wilson about tutoring services for the fake child, Wilson 'began discussing sexual topics involving the purported 12-year-old,' court documents say. Wilson talked about 'meeting the 'child' to perform sexual acts,' prosecutors said. At certain points, Wilson was under the impression that he was texting and speaking with the girl directly, but he was communicating with additional undercover detectives instead, according to prosecutors. Wilson then tried luring the 12-year-old girl into sex acts by arranging a meeting with the detective posing as her guardian on July 24, 2024, prosecutors said. 'Wilson traveled to the predetermined meeting location and was arrested,' prosecutors said. On March 12, Wilson pleaded guilty to attempted enticement and coercion of a minor to engage in sexual activity, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison on July 10, court records show. Days after his arrest, Wilson's neighbor, Kathy Bargar, told Action News Jax that she was shocked to learn he was taken into custody, she told Action News Jax. 'You never know who's living next door to you,' Bargar said in an interview with the TV station. 'It's devastating, I can't believe it,' she added. Concerns or suspicions about child sexual exploitation can be reported to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children's CyberTipline online or by calling 1-800-843-5678.

Medical charity MSF accuses Ethiopian soldiers of ‘targeted killing' of 3 staffers in Tigray in 2021

ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia (AP) — International aid organization Doctors Without Borders on Tuesday released a report describing the gunning-down of three staffers in Ethiopia's Tigray region four years ago as an 'intentional and targeted killing' by members of Ethiopia's military. Ethiopia's government hasn't commented on the new report and didn't immediately reply to questions from The Associated Press. María Hernández Matas, a 35-year-old Spanish coordinator, local colleague Yohannes Haleform Reda and driver Tedros Gebremariam were shot dead in June 2021, forcing the medical charity, also known by its French acronym, MSF, to stop its services in Tigray despite conflict there. The two years of fighting that ended in late 2022 between Tigrayans and the federal government and its allies left an estimated hundreds of thousands of people dead and an unknown number of others wounded. The new MSF report accuses the Ethiopian federal government of not following through on its promise to investigate and release its findings, despite pressure from the families of the deceased and the humanitarian organization. 'And we know that our colleagues were not killed by mistake, or in a crossfire situation. There was no active fighting at that time. They were fully identifiable as humanitarian workers and were shot several times at close range while facing their attackers,' Paula Gil Leyva, president of MSF Spain, told the AP. The report says Ethiopian troops were on the road where the MSF staffers were killed, and some civilian witnesses overheard a radio exchange between a commander and his troops as he gave an order to shoot. 'Our teams had been suffering hostility and aggressions by the (Ethiopian National Defense Force) ground troops, the (Eritrean Defense Force) troops and their allied militia for weeks before the killings,' Leyva said. ___
