This Tom Holland-Zendaya movie is selling out screenings a year before its release

Homer's ancient Greek saga 'The Odyssey' is about a heroic quest, and it appears it will be an epic achievement for cinemagoers just to get tickets to Christopher Nolan's highly anticipated 2026 film.
In an inspired promotion to mark the film's one-year-out release date, Universal Pictures and IMAX made tickets available for four select 70mm IMAX screenings during the film's first weekend of release, July 16-19, 2026.
Tickets went on sale at 9 p.m. Wednesday, July 15, at 26 theaters around the world, including three in Northern California, and within a few minutes nearly all were sold. As of Thursday morning, only a few seats in the front rows remained at the AMC Metreon 16, Regal Hacienda Crossings in Dublin and the Esquire IMAX Theatre in Sacramento.
AMC's website briefly crashed on Wednesday.
'The Odyssey' stars Tom Holland as Telemachus, who goes on an epic search for his lost father, Odysseus (Matt Damon). Oakland native Zendaya, Holland's fiancée, has also been cast, but her role has not been revealed. The movie's cast also includes Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Elliot Page, Lupita Nyong'o, Charlize Theron, Mia Goth, Jon Bernthal, John Leguizamo and Benny Safdie.
It is the first feature-length film to be made entirely with IMAX cameras. Nolan, a champion of film technology who refuses to go digital, has been using IMAX cameras for select sequences in his movies since ' The Dark Knight ' (2008), including his Oscar-winning 2023 film ' Oppenheimer.'
If advance ticket sales are an indicator, 'The Odyssey,' budgeted at $250 million, seems like a threat to match the $975 million taken in by 'Oppenheimer,' which made 20% ($190 million) of its box office sales in IMAX screenings.
After 'Oppenheimer''s success, Nolan worked with IMAX to upgrade its cameras so he could film 'The Odyssey' entirely in the immersive format. Issues that Noland had with the cameras' weight and noise as well as processing of the 70mm film stock were resolved. The cameras are reportedly 30% quieter during filming.
'He forced us to rethink that side of our business,' IMAX CEO Rich Gelfond told reporters at the Cannes Film festival in May.
One thing's for sure: There won't be a repeat of 'Barbenheimer,' the box office battle between Greta Gerwig's 'Barbie,' which took in $1.45 billion, and 'Oppenheimer,' both released on the same day in July 2023.
Though Nolan and Gerwig are skipping the same-day release strategy this time, Gerwig's first 'Narnia' movie, based on the C.S. Lewis books, is scheduled to hit IMAX screens later in the year on Thanksgiving Day in 2026.

The ‘Hamilton' musical movie is coming to theaters this September

The hit Broadway musical 'Hamilton' is making its way to the big screen on Sept. 5. Lin-Manuel Miranda announced the theatrical release date for the Tony Award-winning musical Tuesday night during an interview on 'The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.' 'We always wanted to release it theatrically, but then the pandemic hit and so we decided to release it on streaming, so that everyone could see it at home whenever they wanted,' Miranda said on the show. '[Soon] you will be able to see 'Hamilton' in movie theaters nationwide and in Puerto Rico.' The show's cinematic release marks a major milestone: It's been nearly 10 years since the off-Broadway premiere of 'Hamilton,' which was based on the life of Alexander Hamilton, a founding father of the United States. Created by Miranda, who also composed the music, lyrics and book, the hip-hop- and R&B-inflected musical used source material from 'Alexander Hamilton,' a 2004 biography written by Ron Chernow. The musical went on to win 11 Tony Awards, including best musical, and the Pulitzer Prize for drama in 2016. The film was shot in June 2016, during a live performance at the Richard Rodgers Theatre on Broadway, and features much of the original cast. This includes Miranda as Alexander Hamilton; Leslie Odom Jr. as Aaron Burr; Renée Elise Goldsberry as Angelica Schuyler and Phillipa Soo as Eliza Hamilton. The film was originally slated for release in movie theaters in October 2021. Disney paid $75 million for worldwide movie rights in 2020 and released it later that year exclusively on its streaming platform; the film went on to win two Emmy Awards in 2021. The 'Hamilton' anniversary is being celebrated in more ways than one. Prior to Miranda's 'Tonight Show' interview, Madame Tussauds New York unveiled a wax figure of Miranda dressed as Alexander Hamilton at the Richard Rodgers Theatre. Two special performances of the hit musical will also take place at the same theater today. Every actor who has performed on the Broadway musical since its opening has been invited, according to the Associated Press. Attendees for the matinee were already selected via a lottery process and the evening performance is an invite-only fundraiser for the Immigrants: We Get the Job Done Coalition — a host of 14 immigrant service organizations that uplift immigrant communities across the country. Tickets for the film are now available for purchase.

Creature found as roadkill identified as footlong new species in India. See it

From sharp-toothed sharks to spiders a bit too large for comfort, some animals have earned a scary and intimidating reputation. Snakes are a central part of this group of animal villains, but while boa constrictors or venomous rattlesnakes have earned it, not all snakes warrant a fight-or-flight response. In the lush forests of Mizoram, India, a newly discovered species was described as 'timid' and 'gentle,' and even chose to keep its mouth shut when being handled, researchers said, in a study published Aug. 5 in the peer-reviewed journal Taprobanica. Smithophis leptofasciatus, or the narrow-banded rain snake, was discovered in and around small streams as well as under the leaf litter, rocks and decaying logs on the forest floor, according to the study. While two of the snakes were found living, a third was found as roadkill in the area, and five others were spotted but not collected for the study, researchers said. The narrow-banded rain snake is considered 'small' for its group, though it can measure more than 16 inches long, according to the study. Its coloration is described as a 'shiny dark or a black background intermixed with distinct, narrow and creamish-white or yellowish-lime transverse bands' that are narrow and encircle the body in incomplete bands, researchers said. The snake's head is 'elongated' and 'moderately large' in proportion to its body, with a large and broad snout, according to the study. The eyes are also considered 'moderately large.' The species name, leptofasciatus, is derived from the Greek word 'leptos' and Latin word 'fasciatus' and means 'narrow banded,' referring to the snake's pattern, researchers said. Researchers found the snakes both near and in the water of the streams, suggesting they are at least semiaquatic. The new species is also nocturnal, according to the study. 'All handled specimens were very timid, gentle, showing no inclination to bite when handled,' researchers said. 'In captivity individuals voraciously fed on earthworms.' Researchers also found the brood of a female and noted white, oval and 'leathery' eggs, according to the study. The new species was previously considered part of another known species, Smithophis bicolor, which is found in the Meghalaya region of India. However, recent studies have shown genetic differences between the snakes found there and the ones identified in Mizoram, meaning geographical separation has led to distinct lineages, according to the study. Mizoram is in northeastern India, west of the border with Myanmar. The research team includes Lal Muansanga, Jayaditya Purkayastha, Vanlal Hruaia, Mathipi Vabeiryureilai, Lal Biakzuala, Ht Decemson, Hmar T. Lalremsanga and Sanath C. Bohra.

Liam Neeson's Longtime Manhattan Penthouse Sells for $10.3 Million

Photo: Krisztina Crane Liam Neeson has officially split with his New York apartment. City property records reveal that the Irish actor has offloaded his Manhattan pad for $10.3 million—about a half a million dollars short of the Upper West Side home's asking price from earlier this year. The buyers are listed as Martin Zetterberg and Joanmarie Zetterberg, per the New York Post. The Taken star initially listed his Manhattan dwelling in 2024 for $12.75 million. He later pulled the residence off the market before re-listing it with a discount to $10.75 million in March 2025 under a different brokerage. Neeson has maintained the Lincoln Square pad since 1999. He originally purchased it for $4 million and resided there with his late wife, English actor Natasha Richardson, and their two sons. Built in 1994, the modern high-rise contains 56 floors. It has become a celebrity enclave over the years, with Howard Stern and Jon Bon Jovi among its past residents. Neeson's unit is situated on the 28th floor; he lived in a 4,524-square-foot space with five bedrooms and five bathrooms, which were assembled by merging three separate units into one. His compounded luxury apartment opens to a lofty foyer, a corner family room, and floor-to-ceiling windows with sweeping 360 views of the Manhattan skyline. The dwelling boasts an open concept chef's kitchen outfitted with luxury appliances, a pantry, and a large dining area. The main bedroom hosts two spa-like baths, a gym, and a home office-slash-library with views of Central Park. The rest of the abode features custom built-ins to showcase Neeson's extensive art collection. The Oscar winner divides his time between a few dwellings in his portfolio, including a 6,000-square-foot country home in Millbrook, New York, and properties in his native Ireland. Neeson revealed to People that he plans on retiring from Hollywood in the near future. He's been making headlines lately both for the release of The Naked Gun as well as for buzz around a budding romance with his co-star, Pamela Anderson which is 'in the early stages,' per an anonymous source to People. 'It's sincere, and it's clear they're smitten with each other,' the unnamed source continued. 'The relationship blossomed out of a mutual appreciation for the simpler things in life. They've bonded over their shared love of nature, classic films and a slower pace. Neither of them are chasing the spotlight and they value their privacy at this point in their life.' Matthew Coleman at Coleman Real Estate Group held the listing.
