Stay away from drugs for a bright future
Tirupati: Youth can make their lives sweeter by focussing on studies, or can make it bitter by getting addicted to drugs, district SP Harshavardhan Raju suggested the students while addressing an awareness meeting at SV Medical College on Thursday, on the occasion of International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
He said police alone can't wipe out the evil of drug abuse and needs the support of everyone in the society to end the menace for the better future of the youth. Instead of keeping away drug addicts and look at them with contempt, people should be compassionate towards them and should find out the reason for drug abuse, he suggested.
He further said that family members also should approach drug addicts with love and affection to get them out of the addiction. Teachers also on their part must keep a watch on students to notice any abnormal behaviour and alert parents.
Stating that drug usage starts as fun in the beginning but later it shatters their life, and in many cases youth turn to drugs due to failure in studies, the SP appealed to people to stop looking at drug addicts as criminals and show a humane approach that would go a long way in bailing them out of drug addiction. The district police intensified enforcement against drug sales and abuses.
Drone cameras were also introduced to identify the shadow zones where drug supply and sales are going on and also desolated places, where drug abuse is more.
Later in the evening, an awareness rally from RDO office to MR Palli Dandi circle was held with students of various colleges participating holding placards and banners.
District Collector Dr S Venkateswar, MLA Arani Srinivasulu and others also participated in the rally.
In Chittoor, International Day of Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking was observed on Thursday. Marking the occasion, a meeting and rally was held. District Collector Sumit Kumar and SP Manikanta Chandolu, who participated in the meeting, stressed on concerted efforts to check drug abuse. Expressing concern on more and more youth falling prey to drug abuse, they emphasised on creating awareness among youth to remain away from drug abuse.

Anantapur police hand over ₹3.3 crore worth lost mobiles to owners at recovery mela
The Anantapur police on Friday handed over a record 1,216 mobile phones worth ₹3.3 crore to their rightful owners at the mobiles recovery mela held at Police Parade Grounds. Superintendent of Police P. Jagadeesh highlighted the relentless efforts of the police teams in tracking and recovering stolen and lost property. Speaking to the media, the SP said that the latest recovery took the total number of mobile phones recovered and returned by Anantapur police to 12,594, with an estimated value of ₹24.11 crore. 'The recovery is made in 20 States. The recovered phones number includes 1,179 phones handed back to people from other States, and 2,795 to people from 18 other districts in Andhra Pradesh,' Mr. Jagadeesh said. The value of the mobile phones ranged between ₹499 to ₹1.5 lakh. Though the police traced several devices to other States, the cybercrime wing of the district police ensured speedy tracking and recovery by deploying the CEIR (Central Equipment Identity Register) platform. The SP cautioned the public against buying second-hand mobiles and digital equipment from unknown sources, particularly at bus stands and railway stations. He said that the public while purchasing the mobiles should insist on bills and invoices and original packaging, as this would help avoid legal hassles. Rally in Belagavi against drug abuse
The police organised a rally to create awareness against drug abuse to mark the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking in Belagavi on Thursday. A large number of students, NGO members and officers participated in the rally that began at the Rani Channamma Circle and ended at KLE Centenary Hall. They carried placards and raised slogans against drug abuse during their rally. Police Commissioner Borasae Bhushan Gulabrao, who flagged off the rally, said that the city police are adopting a zero tolerance policy against drug abuse. He said that special teams have been formed to trace and arrest those related to drug peddling. He said that he and his officers will soon visit schools and colleges to organise awareness creation programmes. The rally was organised in association with Jain International Trade Organisation and Food Safety and Drug Administration (FDA) Belagavi unit. Deputy Drug Controller M. Awareness rally marks International Day against Drug Abuse in Yadgir
The International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking was observed in Yadgir on Thursday through an awareness rally taken out from Subhas Chandra Chowk to Lumbini Garden and staging a drama there. The programme was organised by the Home Department. Deputy Commissioner B. Susheela, who participated as chief guest in the rally, said that consumption of drugs not only impacts human beings but also is against the interests of the nation. 'Good habits can bring good changes among human beings. A bad habit like consumption of drugs and alcohol will damage the human body. We all should stand against such activities and protect valuable lives for the future,' Dr. Susheela said. Superintendent of Police Pruthvik Shankar said that now-a-days people claiming to be from reputed families are consuming drugs and material that intoxicate to beat stress and for temporary satisfaction. The Home Department is taking strict steps to prevent drug menace. 'Nevertheless, the general public can raise complaints through an app developed by the department,' Mr. Shankar said. Chief Executive Officer of Zilla Panchayat Lavish Ordia also spoke about people who are addicted to alcohol and drugs avoiding family and friends. Proper vigilance is needed to prevent them from such addiction, he added. Kumari Shilpa performed yogasanas, while a drama was staged to create awareness against drugs.
