Reactivating Aleppo International Airport could reconnect the city to regional markets and breathe new life into medical and trade tourism, a local travel agency director told Shafaq News on Saturday, expressing hope that flight routes would soon expand to additional Arab and European cities.
The Head of a Travel Reservations Company in Aleppo, Mohammad al-Qadri, noted that the move will ease the movement of thousands of passengers monthly and cut the high costs of traveling through distant hubs like Damascus or Beirut. He estimated that air bookings in and out of Aleppo could rise by 30% to 40% within the first six months, particularly among business travelers, students, and families based in Turkiye and Europe.
In a post on X, Omar Hosari, the head of Syria's Civil Aviation and Air Transport Authority, welcomed the arrival of the first Turkish Airlines flight to Aleppo, describing the event as a major milestone in Syria's efforts to reestablish global air connectivity and restore Aleppo's role in regional aviation.

Economic expert Sami al-Salloum told Shafaq News that restoring air routes with Turkiye could revitalize Aleppo's struggling tourism and commerce sectors, if accompanied by customs and logistics reforms.

Iraq's oil exports to US surpass 8.3 million barrels in July

Baghdad ( – The US Energy Information Administration (EIA) revealed on Thursday that Iraq exported over eight million barrels of oil to the United States in July 2025. The EIA mentioned that Iraq's crude oil exports to the United States during July rose to 8.37 million barrels compared to 6.43 million barrels in June 2025, Shafaq News reported. Iraq exported an average of 314,000 barrels of crude oil per day to the United States during the first week of July, 273,000 barrels per day during the second week, 214,000 barrels per day during the third week, and 279,000 barrels per day during the fourth week, according to figures released by the EIA. The EIA indicated that Iraq was the fourth-largest oil exporter to the United States during July, following Canada, which was the largest oil supplier to the United States, Saudi Arabia, and Mexico. Iraq was the second-largest oil supplier to the United States in the Arab region, following Saudi Arabia, which exported 9.39 million barrels, and Libya, which exported a total of 1.48 million barrels. Iraq's crude oil and oil derivative exports to the United States exceeded 95 million barrels in 2024. Iraq's oil exports to the United States have increased significantly in the last few years, often achieving record levels within a single month. This growth can be attributed to Iraq's capacity to enhance oil production alongside the rising global demand.

After Rwanga training: 35 Duhok youths employed

Shafaq News – Duhok Thirty-five young men and women in Iraq's Duhok have secured employment after completing vocational training courses organized by the Rwanga Foundation. The initiative, part of ongoing efforts to enhance job readiness among youth, included two specialized training programs. Nibar Shino, Director of the Vocational Training Department in Duhok, told Shafaq News that the first course focused on installing and operating solar energy systems, in line with Iraq's growing interest in alternative energy. The second offered training in automotive mechanics, with a focus on electric vehicles. Shino noted that the foundation's work addresses broader economic challenges, including salary delays and limited job creation from the federal government. 'The aim is to equip youth with practical, in-demand skills that allow them to enter the workforce confidently." Out of 40 trainees, 35 have already been placed in jobs matching their training—a "concrete step toward reducing youth unemployment.' Rwanga's Duhok Office Director, Hikmat Mohammed, added that the foundation will continue offering structured, skill-focused programs to support young Iraqis in improving their livelihoods and economic prospects. Established in 2013 by Idris Nechirvan Barzani, the Rwanga Foundation is a nonprofit in the Kurdistan Region, initially focused on ensuring quality education for all children. Over time, it has expanded its mission to include economic development, youth empowerment, environmental sustainability, and humanitarian aid. It also supports climate action through local initiatives that align with its environmental objectives.
